There are plenty of places in Prague where ordinary people cannot go. We have selected three in the Live Prague series that are definitely worth exploring.
The video was made possible thanks to the Open House Prague organization, which will open the doors of dozens of normally inaccessible buildings to visitors for free during the festival on May 20 and 21: www.openhousepraha.cz/festiva...
And which inaccessible places in Prague did we go to?
The Art Garden
Few would look for such a gem under the columns of the Nusel Bridge. The garden was created during the First Republic, when the sculptor Karel Novák had his studio here. After his death, and especially during the construction of the bridge, this place and its precious sculptures were completely devastated. The current restoration is mainly due to the new owner Vojtěch Haluz and it belongs to the most charming corners of Prague.
The former Hotel Gráf
The originally refined hotel, which can be found on I. P. Pavlova Street, was covered by scaffolding with a tarpaulin for many years. Today it is an administrative centre. Practically only the façade and some architectural elements, such as the rare marquetry on the ground floor, have been preserved from the original building. If you make it to the 7th floor, you will have one of the most beautiful views of Prague.
Gröbe's Villa (or Grébovka)
The villa of the businessman Morizte Gröbe, designed by the Czech architect Antonín Viktor Barvitius, has a very turbulent history. It was hit by air raids during the war and underwent a very insensitive "reconstruction" under communism. Today, thanks to the current tenant CEELI Institute, it can once again boast its original appearance. You can even find the foundation stone that Gröbe himself once tapped on.
