Follow up: took it out of the fridge and it was amazing. I was blown away by how tasty it was. Gave some to my landlord who was also in awe. Saw some great suggestions in the comments as well. I’m going to toast the oats with some walnuts and sea salt next. Will also try super bitter chocolate and sweeten with raisins and bananas.

I made this for the first time today and it was delicious. I added an 1/8 of a tsp of sea salt and 1/4 tsp vanilla extract. I was glad that I did. The salt really helped cut through the richness as did the sliced strawberries I added to the top of my slice. The coconut flavor did not come through as much as I thought it would so next time I will add some toasted coconut to the top before placing the desert in the fridge to cool. Very good desert for health conscious foodies that don’t like their treats overly sweet.

I have turned my rolled oats into oats flour .. I cook the oats flour with milk and cocoa powder ,which turns into custard-like consistency in just few mins . Once cooked, I add a bit of honey and nuts to keep it healthy.refrigerate it for 2-3 hours . Tastes amazing I guess next time I will try adding desiccated coconut to it as I don’t have coconut milk available

i made this today. i doubled all the ingredient because my mold is larger....and i didnt it to be super thin. i think the dark chocolate flavour is a bit strong for my taste....i added a bit of sugar, but it wasnt enough. someone suggested adding vanilla, which i will next time i make it. i read some interesting ideas in the comments such as toasting the oats with nuts, and adding a bit of salt(which always helps bring out other flavours). i remember watching other videos that a little bit of coffee helps improve the taste of chocolate in any recipe....so that might be interesting too. the good thing about this recipe is that it's very basic and you can easily expand it in any direction you want. will be back and report any progress when i try it again.

@trapezius77
@trapezius77 4 года назад
@@ottoroberts5163 your last sentence is not true. Dark chocolate has less sugar than milk/white, but the fat content is similar across the types. Why do you think dark chocolate has less fat? Cocoa is very high in fat (cocoa butter). In fact, beyond 70% dark chocolate, the higher the cocoa content, the slightly higher the fat content due to there being less sugar. Go compare bars of Lindt white, milk, 60%, 70%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 99% at a store. Let us know which one has more fat.

No, because it’s the chocolate that hardens when you refrigerate this dessert.

Coconut milk has a lot of fat, hence it has set well.. if you wanna use regular milk then probably a bit a cream with it might give you the desired structure.
