You're right Martina, sesame oil should totally be included in the taste pyramid, nothing else is like it. Just one drop and it completely transforms the dish.
it indeed makes it instantly bitter and less appetizing for me %-) . sesame in all it's forms is an spikey kind of bitter, i must be genetically burdened as not many people know what i mean with it. i generally taste more bitters then others. (i'm also on the side of tasting soap in coriander) despite my tasting, i love tasting new things and combinations. i have tasted a whole range of things with sesame in it, they were all bitter in a disappointing way and i still haven't managed to appreciate it, like i have for coffee, brocolli, brussel sprouts, beer, and many many vegetables,...
I can say with confidence, that things the content we have all been salivating for. 😋 I will probably watch this every morning this week while I prepare my own breakfast. DITL videos are the BEST!
This has been refreshing and its wholesome. After what feels like a long week of getting pelted and not feeling like I’m doing anything right. I just feel super happy to seeing you do some awesome breakfast food. Will be trying some next week. As my week is gonna began by stressful conflict at work. Wish me luck.
Hi Martina, I've been watching your videos since 2009 when you taught me a ton about Korea so I was confident when I travelled there myself in the past. I'm also a pretty frequent traveller to Japan so I enjoyed your videos about both. Because of covid I couldn't travel anymore so I really miss Japan a lot i was able to spend a lot of time there in the past and watching your videos makes me miss it even more LOL, You're really good at showing the small charms of Japan which is what I like about it as well. I hope your health is doing okay. Love the videos and can't wait for more :)
How cool is that! I wonder if it's available in the US.... Hmmm.... I'll have to look. Even though I don't need another tamagoyaki pan, Martina's looks amazing.
I actually went to my local asian grocers and saw that they had a variety of miso pastes! Never noticed it before, so I grabbed a similar coloured one to yours and can't wait to make miso soup and try that spinach and miso sauce! Loved the video
As a huge sesame fan (my favorite ice cream is black sesame ice cream) I fully support adding it to the list of tastes. It has that nutty aspect but there's a roasty element too, almost like coffee.
I just made some toast and eggs for breakfast. :3 Now I get to enjoy my orange juice and let my food start digesting while enjoying a long video, thank you Martina!
I'm in America and I've never seen spinach with the root attached, even in our Asian markets. Seems very handy. I have a garden, so I might try growing some spinach this fall just for this purpose.
I love the way you instantly create a fun, comfortable and judgement free space when you're cooking, exploring, or sharing things you've seen or found. Your videos have given me so much confidence over the years, and most recently, through the chill atmosphere you create with King Kogi, I've been putting your videos on my phone in the kitchen and using them to motivate myself to clean up, or prepare simple meals - something that has always been a struggle for me. thank you!
@@KingKogi I’m genuinely surprised for a reply! Appreciate it a lot tho! I’ve been a fan of yours for close to 10 years! I wish you nothing but the best and hopefully more cooking videos 😁😁😁
I’m so happy to have you in my internet life, Martina. I have thought of you as a loving older sister and I’ve said this before but idk how you always post when I’m on the brink of a breakdown, brightening my mood like the sun coming out on a stormy day ⛅️ ☀️ 🌺🌷💐
Breakfast: Maximum Efffort Edition! Everything looks delicious and I loved the longer video. How about a video showing more cool kitchen items? What am I missing out on?! I NEED to know!
Martina: I don’t want to embarrass myself by making bad Tamagoyaki Also Martina: *proceeds to make the cutest fluffiest Tamagoyaki I’ve only ever seen in anime like Gourmet Girl Graffiti* 🍳 Me, who doesn’t even like eating eggs that much: 👁 👄 👁✨✨ I might actually make this now
You probably don't read comments anymore, but I've watched EYK for years and years, and had a long break to come back and find this new journey. I love it for you. Also, 2 weeks ago I started learning Japanese, so when you put the words on screen and I can recognize at least some of the Hiragana, I get so excited. Thank you!
Of course I still read comments you silly duck 😊 The whole point of making videos is for the community, so thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I enjoy reading them. I’m so happy you’ve found me again! I’m off on a new life journey (well, it’s been a few years now so it’s a different kind of journey) but I’m doing well. Hope you’ll subscribe and “hit that bell” haha as the RU-vidrs say now and days 💕
You’re loved Martina. Keep being you and we’ll support you. You’re such a strong woman with such a quirky personality that’s captivating when you help us live vicariously through you. Keep up the hard work girlie!
That moment when Martins posts a new video but I have to hold off to watch it when I’m fully ready to enjoy and savor the video after waiting FULLY knowing I’m going to end up watching it now and then rewatching it on loop until there’s a new upload love your channel and your videos !! ❤️
I'm so glad you're doing more cooking videos! I really love your videos, they are such a joy to watch. I've been viewing for such a long time, and I love the relaxed yet upbeat vibe at King Kogi that really shows the magic and joy in daily life. I've really taken your philosophy of looking for daily adventures and treating what's around you as magic and special to heart. Thanks for continuing to make videos and sharing your light with all of us
Hi Wizard of Quesadilla~ thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment! Welcome to the community, and to the King Kogi Airship. Hope to see you around the comment section again ✨
I come back to this video every now and then cuz I like having you around cooking your breakfast in the background 😂🥰 you remind me so much of one of my best friends who lives far from me so it feels wholesome on levels 🥰
That is the cutest lil tofu block! I have a friend who didn’t realize miso was a paste, not the soup, was warmed it up & drank from the container. Oops. Took her too long to be able to be near it. Your tamagoyaki looks good to me. Those pans are also amazing for grilled cheese sandwiches if you have wider bread. I had to buy a new pan once children found out as they had too hot.
Please do more cooking videos, love your munchies series !!! Your videos has inspired me to cook more korean and japanese dishes and love how you teach us your recipes :)
Had an almost identical breakfast this morning. I did two tamagoyaki, one was beautiful the other not so much. It was fun to watch this while eating my breakfast.☺️
I find the video so unexpectedly relaxing & comforting, even more so than those asmr silent cooking. Martina, thanks for all the effort you’ve put in to creating & sharing your little haven with us 💕
Was having a really bad pain day or well days lately and so seeing you pop on my feed made me so happy I was able to enjoy you and drool over your food for a bit instead of stressing and the other.
Oh wow Martina this meal looks amazing. When I was a child and dad was in the Australian Army, we got posted to Malaya (that’s what it was called in the 1960’s). I spent most of my days with our housekeeper who was Chinese and she cooked her meals in her living space. I would eat my meals with her because they appealed more to me. Since then I have tried and loved many Asian cuisines and Japanese and Chinese are my all time favourites. I love all the salty, savoury flavours the most and often eat Japanese for breakfast. Although I’ll eat it anytime lol. Since Covid, ingredients are hard to order online now and that’s the only way for me to get them as we live in a small country village 567 people lol. I cannot wait for it all to come back online cause I’m feeling like my tastebuds are screaming out for goodness lol. I’m thrilled to see you living life in Japan again Martina. Michelle
I love everything about this video - watching you happily chat away is the best thing ever. It's like being at a friends house. Thank you! I learned a lot!
I just realized I have a deep need for a sticker (or some kind of merch) of King Kogi building a ladder @0:28. That image is so cute and motivational, I’d buy like 10 stickers to put up all around the house! Please make that happen someday Martina!!!
"If you dont make time for your body to rest, your body will set that time for you." And boy that happened to me today, but it was actually a lucky break, i finally had some time to watch all your videos i missed and I love them!! This is the fantastic fun chill video i have been missing in my life
GURL You Embrace the Morning More than I do. Making Coffee is my Supreme Effort after a couple of cups and an hour or more, I can finally get up and start my day. Usually in front of the screen watching Youtey. Bigg Huggs !! Doing is a Rung On The Ladder, it doesn't matter what, Just DO. There One Rung Up. !!
i ABSOLUTELY have to try that spinach dish! i have been branching out to a lot of different veggie dishes and as soon as you started making that side dish i just felt the craving grow lmao! will need to keep that in mind the next time i have hot pot, would be nice to have that with rice while waiting on other things to cook
Love Daiso! I use their microwavable containers to make instant ramen, cook spaghetti--no pot needed. FYI my Costco sells jars of anko spread with butter. It's wonderful on toast, ice cream or just straight out of the jar lol!
One of the times my mom visited me we took a Japanese cooking class in Kyoto and I remember the lady teaching us how to make tamagoyaki and to “wait” every time you flip the egg, so soon we were all emphatically yelling “wait!!” every time we even touched the egg 😆 Its not easy!
I'm so happy to see your cooking videos again! (I finally got a proper computer so I can spell check easier) It looks like so much food but small portions which is better then one or two filling a plate. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I love toasting my own sesame seeds in a little one egg frying pan I have(I spent way longer than I'd like to admit looking for a one egg frying pan) and then just putting the extra in a spare little jar for when I need them!
Always love watching your videos. These are some of my favorite Japanese sides too (that and the sesame cucumbers!). Seeing you build a ladder gives me strength and courage to keep fighting against cancer. Thank you for being an inspiration.
This reminds me of the EYK how to make a Japanese breakfast video. Which I love. This type of Japanese breakfast I have wanted to try since that video came out and I was I introduced to it. It looks so delicious! That spinach looks amazing. I love sesame. Everything together just would be so fun to try and seems like a beautiful symphony of flavors.
OMG, this is a fantastic beginners video on how to use/cook key Japanese ingredients. Just FFFF-ING bloody fantastic. Great job 👍 Martina, informative, fun, funny, n looks delicious!! Love u much my dear.....many MUCH. Hahahaha 🤣🤣😂🤣
18:16 i store pre chopped green onion with open so it does get soggy even though it dries out after a week. Then it becomes the dry form but can still be used in soup.
I just woke up and starting to make strawberry green tea, and heard Martina reference "Batman & Robin" with Arnie as Mr. Freeze and nearly spewed my tea. LOL. Thanks Martina, I am not morning person either, but your video helped with that today.
Yay! I love your cooking videos so much. I work third shift so most people’s morning is my bedtime 😃. I live in the Midwest US and have never seen spinach sold in stores that way. But I do believe at a farmers market they would sell it as you showed.
When I went to Japan I stayed at this Airbnb where the neighbor made me a breakfast every morning. It's was amazing and super satisfying. A world of a difference from scrambled eggs
I agree with those plp who say they been having a hard time and your videos make out day.....God bless u martina u have no idea how much i needed this, i really enjoy watching your content anything you do your funny and just love your personality.
Wow! That Spinach Sesame Miso side dish looks amazing! Too bad I can't have it because I get kidney stones. Sadness. Spinach, sesame seeds and miso are too high in oxalates... But man, that looks so delicious!
I miss seeing you like this. I hope you have a good strong friendship with somebody over there to help you out when you're not feeling so good physically and emotionally. I don't miss the one that shall not be named.
I can't explain it, but your videos make me so happy. I watch them with ease no matter how long or short they are and I always have a smile on my face while watching
Welcome to King Kogi, Martina here~ 👩🏻🦳✨ so happy you stumbled upon this video, and thanks for the lovely comment. I hope to see you around in the comment section again.
I cant eat and ramen without some sesame oil. It literally makes any ramen taste 1000% better. I also have an insane spice tolerance so i always add chili oil into my ramen to make it spicy.
Omg I need that rice washer thing in my life! I’ve been waiting for a gadget to be made. I hate using the pot lid lol and I also use my finger tip to measure the water line
Amazing video!!! I love all the cute stickers and gadgets in your kitchen!!! You really make me want to get into the kitchen and try your recipes!!! Definitely subscribed!!
I just made this and it was the most delicious breakfast I’ve ever had🤤 I also put some seaweed on the first roll of the omelet so make a pretty swirl in the middle. It’s also just so delicious 🤤🤤🤤
another wonderful video martina!! i love this long video format, it feels as though you’re a friend i’m facetiming with as we both get things done. wish you all the best!!!
It's so good to see Martina happy and thriving. I know we're all building our own rainbow ladders, but Martina really is a ray of sunshine that helps me along my way. 💜💕🌈
Exactly! I usually have the dashi totally ready to go and I just add the miso and toppings, and the spinach sauce is also done and in the fridge. I just cook the spinach and cool it and make the egg rolls.
