Hi! Welcome to my art channel!
The first layer of this piece was one of my first resin pieces back in early 2017. It took a little over a year to decide what I wanted to do with the second layer... which ended up a fail!... But I fixed it with the 3rd layer, and I think it's amazing!
I used 3 different resins for this piece, mainly because I used whatever resin I had on hand at the time.

It's so beautiful and designed, but I don't get any difference between in one layer and in three layers. Is this only me or someone else? Please help with what I am missing 😢😢😢

Thank you! And thanks for watching! The biggest thing I think that helps make layers more visible is using a clear base layer (not required for the 1st layer). Using a clear base layer allows your other colors to flow easily, and will then also allow depth to be seen in clear and translucent/transparent areas. Also, make sure you not cover everything in the prior layer, only parts you want to 'hide'. You can also use clear as one of your 'colors' when you pour. This definitely helps you to create depth in your piece, multiple layers or no. Yes. Add very little amount, otherwise it’s very easy to lose your cells. Heck out the other swipe videos I have for more info!

Turned out awesome, love that JR fuschia color. Thanks for the tip about the torch creating cells. I'll try that next time I use my rustoleum. I have gloss and everyone says it needs to be semi gloss or flat but you got nice results with your rustoleum gloss so I'm going to try it again 😍❤👍

Thanks! That Fuschia is one of my faves from them! For swiping, the rustoleum needs to be gloss oil-based enamel - though I’ve never tried something other than gloss...is there flat/semi-gloss enamel?? I think the semi-gloss/flat is for if you spray something on the piece before pouring (like spray paint or a sealer), though I’ve never had an issue with using gloss spray paint or polyurethane before pouring. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve heard some say the resin won’t stick to gloss, but only time I’ve ever had an issue with resin not sticking was pulling the tape off wrong on a coaster and the resin pulled off the side in one spot...maybe from my hand oils. 🤷‍♀️

@@JOTZdesigns I've never tried any of the JR products. I'm going to have to get some one of these days 😉😁 there is a semi gloss and flat rustoleum. I have the gloss, oil based enamel rustoleum and used it in a pour. I didnt get the cells I wanted and everyone said it was because I used gloss and not semi gloss or flat 🤔🤔🤔 bizarre. I'll try again and add more rustoleum and see if that makes a difference because I still have the can. I may as well use it. 😉😁💚

🤔 Well people are just silly! Did you do it in one of your videos? (I’m super behind on everyone’s videos trying to get ready for my first craft show!) If I saw what you did, maybe I could help! You don’t want much of it added or you won’t get any cells, but too little may also cause no cells.

Will any oil based paint work to make the cells I thought that was a no-no u just taught me something.

I have only tried oil paints and Rust-oleum’s oil-based enamel in resin so far (and silicone oil, but that’s not paint) and I love the effects from both! I’ve never had an issue with the resin not curing, but there’s a possibility of some pits. Easy fix with proper prep and a clear coat! So far, the only things that have ever given me issues (usually making the resin react fast and harden quickly) is water-based. Stay under the rule of 10% colorant to resin, and usually you’re good! Silicone oil and oil-based paint give different results, and how you use it will change things up too. I add the oil-based enamel & oil paint to the resin in the cup first and mix with colorant if needed/wanted, and usually I add silicone oil to the poured piece, but it can be added to the cup. All give varying results! Please check out the many videos I have using them to see some different options! Also how do u get all the bits of resin out of your measuring cup when washing it out. What products etc do u use?

When I use containers that are reusable (not all are!), I will soak them in hot (dish) soapy water until I can comfortably put my hands in the water, but it’s still warm. This lets the resin soften up. Then I just start picking away and scraping the sides with my fingers. Gloves help to avoid getting sharp pieces under your nails! I find silicone cups to be the easiest to clean - check out the EcoArt Solutions link in my descriptions! (If you don’t see it, check one of my newer videos, I may have missed one when I became an affiliate.) Once the containers (and I clean molds like this too) are clean, l strain the resin bits out, or let the water evaporate, then throw the resin bits away! I have never tried the spray with this method. There is a spray version, but I’m not sure if the spray version would work the same and give the same results Definitely try it out, and let us all know what you think! Thanks for watching!
