Bs quiz :) I am always good at cashgames until i fuck it up lol, not objective however something else that is more important, I don't agree with you to value bet and wanting your opponent to call always... It's always better to take down a smaller pot rather than to risk still losing the hand/pot. Your opponent can easily upgrade his hand, if not they wouldn't have called in the 1st place, you gotta make em pay to see the turn or river, I like that approach much more. It's same with question if you bet when you got a lower pair on the flop, considering it's not HU. I always bet, cuz if you don't you can lose the hand later on by opponents that make a hand.

Neel, I agree no river, no fish. Get em out and take it down when your out of position. If your in position and the draws are not on the board and the preflop action dictates his range is limited as compared to the board, and your stack (and your emotional esteem) then string him a long. Assuming he is a straightforward player and he didn’t check his aces pre-flop or something. It’s safe to say, you don’t know the table for the first hour, you won’t know most of the individual players until the 7-10th hand played.

Hey Jonathan. The quick note you made about bet sizing in the value betting section has been very helpful. I noticed that I was betting too large for value on every street. The words that stuck out were that I was forcing my opponents to play well. I'm very confident that's what was happening. My bets were only allowing hands that had good equity to continue, and I was folding out all hands that I was well ahead of. I've adjusted my sizing, and it's been helping a lot. Not only am I getting to showdown against worse hands more often, but I haven't committed as many chips by the river when the flush comes in and they put in a big raise. Anyways, thanks!

The first, and most important, thing I learned by taking in these lessons is how bad I was (still am). I have quickly gotten noticeably better just by admitting I needed to learn and diving into these videos. I bought the course and it's easily the best bet I made all last year :)

The most common mistake I make at cash games when I'm playing bad is bluff-catching too much. They just aren't bluffing nearly enough to warrant it. You couldn't be more right.

I'm referring to your T9 spades on the button example. I guess based on your logic of how to play the river with this hand against the bet, and now has me kind of questioning whether we should have been playing this hand at all. On the flop we called the bet because you thought we wanted to hit a flush. Same on the turn. The river we make our hand and now we don't like our hand enough to raise when we are pretty sure that we have the best hand. it kind of makes me question whether we should have been calling those bets with this draw to begin with. I'm not trying to be negative or critical i appreciate the video also.

Totally on board with this comment. We also have to have in mind that even the best cash low live players aren't folding any two pair or better on this run out. (Low stakes). And we have the third best possible hand. Pretty happy to put all my chips in here. If he triple barrels with the NFD or 2NFD he is not as tight as we think he is. This line on most TAG low stakes live cash game villains is KJ and sets. IMO

JL likes to say to call with your sc's if you are getting 20 to 1 implied odds. Some people wonder, yeah, but can we really expect to get 20 times our pre call? In this hand, we called 7 and opponents put in 246. We won 35 times our pre call playing passively. Imagine if we were in a situation where we could be aggressive.

In this hand you start off defining their range pretty wide, but the flop and turn bets narrow their range substantially (including: aces, ak, kq, kt which will not bet this river, but also sets, kj, nut flush draws, and bluffs like qt or even AQ with the A of spades). We are still ahead of most opponents bets on this river bet and have a very profitable call, but not enough of those hands that we beat will call the raise. This doesn't mean we wouldn't bet this river if they checked!

In the 10s high flush vs the set of jiggities hand, I read his (too large) river bet size of 150 as putting you on AK or KJ, looking for value. I'd only call a passive player - I'd raise the action guy hoping he's a dummy that's in love with his set.

That $60 bet into like $360 on river with K9 is exactly the kind of bets I see at my games, and I'm always tempted to raise it as a bluff except I don't because I've seen those same guys then call with K9.

I do think the donkbet (leading into preflop aggressor on the flop) is underrated at low stakes, I try not to do it (because you basically have much less information about what the other guy is thinking if you lead and so the chance of bluffing away your whole stack by the river goes up) but I think it works way too often in small stakes, people just love to fold, most of them. I don't know tho, I really will try and pay attention to that. Maybe everyone's just adjusted by now since I last played.

Love the first slide. I would say my $550 profit playing 1/3 last night would have been closer to $800 if I value bet more on rivers when ops are calling down. Sometimes when 1 str or fl card comes in, I check behind whereas a small value bet/fold strategy would have earned me chips several times. It's so tempting to want to realise your equity without risking more chips whilst avoiding a large potential check/raise. Who wants to face a massive raise when you have top two or trips and be put in a real spot. I have made more 1/3 pot bets on rivers in these situations lately from watching your videos, which sets the price but has also been definitely profitable overall when I have a strong hand. The other thing is, when you don't value bet strong hands on rivers, the stronger players notice your timidity and likely work in some big raises to take advantage of you.

thats interesting , against good opponents who think 1/3 size is weakish and bluffraise or even value raise a weaker hands it is good to trap them by going thin for value as most of the times they will either call a weaker hand or bluffraise which you then can snap off

Rake in California for 1/2, 1/3 ranges between $5-7 depending on where you play. At casinos where jackpots are legal, the rake tends to be a little more, since a percentage of that rake goes towards the various jackpots offered.

I had watched this video previously, but decided to watch it again as an adjunct to the 30 day challenge. For the 30 day challenge, one of my goals is to take notes as I watch the content, so I decided to do that here. It took me longer to get through the class but by adding comments and ideas to my outline based on the bullet points on the slides really helped me understand the content better. I also tried using the pre and post-flop GTO (approximation) charts available in pokercoaching.com and used the range analyzer tool, also on pokercoaching.com, to better understand the ideas Jonathan is communicating. I had good results with this approach.

Where are you playing 1/2 with people who open to 7? In Detroit, the standard raise is 10-15 dollars. It makes the game super easy to play because they constantly create 3-5 SPR spots with hands that want at least 7 or greater.

The card rooms I play regularly in California it's the same thing. In the $1/2 NL games, the standard open is usually $12. In the $2/5 game the standard open is usually $18-25.

that varies game by game, i've seen 7 be somewhat standard for maybe at least 40% or around that of any given 1-2 game. it would/should also vary by buy in. if a game has a 200 (or the more rare 100) cap on a 1-2 game rather than 300 cap (probably also standard) 7 vs 12-15 opening bet is much much better as it allows for much more SPR play.

Ever since I have started studying along with Jonathan and his coaches I have been thinking a lot in terms of ranges. Thinking in terms of ranges is amazing! It has gotten me out of a ton of situations where before I would have called or made some kind of different error. The last session I had I folded top pair top kicker on a Q-9-4 rainbow flop to a straight forward player who raised my bet on the flop. He showed me his set of nines after I reluctantly folded. He was impressed with my lay down but really, what else could he have been raising that that spot? Q9s? I know I'm not giving much info about the hand, but yeah haha

Good content. For me the most helpful lesson was about range and nut advantage. It’s easy to mindlessly check or bet but thinking about this application from various ranges versus other ranges will be great!

So I figured out a way for myself to remember everything I need to think about and take into account preflop. It's the 6 P's Position Potential (hand strength etc.) Profitability (stack sizes/how much I can win) Pot odds Player (who's in the pot who's left to act) Previous action This may not help the average thinking player but a person like me I need a way to remember everything preflop so I don't get myself into bad situation postflop.

Just come across this as im moving from 25NL online to 1/2 live cash games. In the example with K9o, you're assuming that players are 3betting KTs+ and KQo and folding KTo-KJo from the SB vs a BTN raise right? The thing I've seen a lot at 25NL is players will more often than not flat with these hands from the SB, and call down all 3 streets when rhe BTN takes that line. So is the solution either to open a slightly tighter range on the BTN if you know the players in the blinds are over-calling, or to play the same opening range but to play hands like your weaker top pairs more passively?

I play 1-3 cash games nl Hold’em I always have a short stack so I usually just play straight forward if I have a good hand I play it if not I fold I know that’s not smart so what can I do to better my game? I start usually 35 bbs so I’m not staring extremely short stacked .. any help would be amazing!

In that flush example hand: how are you calculating your equity with made hands...so in this case, ten high flush. Obviously we can calculate the pot odds and we'd always want equity percentage to be higher than pot odds percentages for +EV plays so in this case, it was the flush draw and gut shot so about 12 outs but I'm just a little confused about how to calculate our equity on made hands?
