There’s plenty of fcp channels out there that just offer all the same stuff but you, Dylan Bates and Ryan nangle really offer genuinely new and useful info. Great stuff as always, that transition issue has bugged me for ages!!
Maaaan I’ve been using FCP and my mac all wrong. I thought that first one blew my mind but that second one was 🤯 But then that third one just sent me over 😂 You really are a gem and I truly appreciate you for helping me becoming a more efficient editor. Thank you ❤
Thanks my friend! You know what's funny, I created a whole bonus section on something similar, but it wasn't really a hack and it made the video over 7 minutes so I cut it. What you can do is drag your overlays and graphics into the Apple TV app. Then go into Apple TV which is above your sound effects folder in FCP and you'll see them in there.
Dude, I watched this when it first came out, but finally got around to making and organizing my Favorites folder. I just edited a video with it, and it saved me soooooo much time. Many thanks man! I find so much great info on your channel.
DUUUUDE!!! Literally was trying to figure out the first one in my latest vlog!! BROO!! the Make Alias folder hack!! JESUS!!! I've been uploading the SFX from a folder attached to a hard drive! Major help brotha! Keepem coming!
Awesome tips! Though I do want to point out that you CAN preview your sound effects/music from the finder window by highlighting it and clicking the spacebar
Listen, I heard about you, but dude…your straight to the point tips are just amazing man!!! In the past 20 mins…watched 3 & I’m like 🤯 amazing stuff bruv!!! Carry on!!!! I’m on deck!
@@dylanjohndickerson Hey, another related question: Where should I put graphics that I want to use in a wide range of projects/libraries (similar idea to your sound fx in this video)? Would appreciate a video on that! Thanks again 🙌
Thanks a ton, Pierce! I'm actually considering making a 'how I made RU-vid videos' video so I'll talk about the studio setup then, but they're the Nanette Pavotube II 30X. Highly recommend them!
@@dylanjohndickerson Quick follow-up question: Do you just put the tub on the ground and angle it up at the back wall? Or how exactly do you set it up? Thanks!
Awesome tips Dylan. I got the audio hack from one of your previous video :) Is there a way to add sounds while having FCP open so it refreshes newly added files? It's kind of annoying to open/close FCP just to see the new sounds. I like to have the project open while searching and adding music/sfx to my folder so I can "test" them quickly to see if they fit.
Thanks my friend! No unfortunately I don't think so. I believe you have to restart the application. I also like to have my project open while searching and adding music/sfx to test them. If you just added a bunch of new ones and you don't want to close and reopen, you could just drag the new sound effects from the main sfx folder that you have and bring them into your FCP library.
OMG I didn't realise there was a drop down called Effects that had more folders in it (2:43 but you have to be quick). Also, who else here gets the "iLife Sound Effects" reference?
Squarespace offers a user-friendly interface with a drag-and-drop editor, allowing anyone to create a professional website without coding knowledge. The platform provides stunning....jk. Thanks for watching 😛
Sure. Take a look the first transition (0:05) after you say “3 hacks”. The “triangle” transitioning the scenes I am talking about. I appreciated it a lot but I don’t know how to produce it. If you could teatch me…
@@JoaoInacio Ah that's actually a title that has a transition opening. It's from this plugin 👇🏼 geni.us/mTitleCyberpunk Here's a 10% off discount code if you're interested | Save 10% - DYLANJOHN |
hello sir this is shiva from Bharath I want to know how to trim multiple Clips in FCP I mean to Trim In & Out of multiple clip 1 or 2 Seconds at a time.
A great way to copy a file or folder is to hold down option and drag it to where you want it. You'll see a green circle with a + in it that let's you know you're adding a file, not moving it. If you don't see the plus, you may have held down option after you started dragging. No problem, alter your drag to return to start and then release and try again. Once you've done it a few times, it becomes natural.
I do that all the time actually! Not sure why I didn't mention it in this video. Some things slip my mind. You can also move a clip and delete the location of the original by holding command. And if you hold command and press delete, you can automatically delete something without having to drag it to the trash or right clicking and hitting move to trash. Those tricks really come in handy.
geni.us/TryEnvatoElements It's a subscription thing. So what I'd do is just sign up for Envato Elements and then hop into the Final Cut Pro plugins section to download all the plugins you want.
Can anyone help!!! Does anyone know how to get the 'SHOW HORIZON' shortcut to work, use all the time but can't seem to find a short cut or make one for it.
Could the last hack, where you save favorite titles or transitions be done for the effects that comes with FCPX, or only for the third party plugins? Thanks

Thanks for these hacks very useful. But it seems that I can't see all the effects in their folders... As an example, in "Lower Third" I can only see 2 types of effects despite the factc in FCPX I can see that there's a lot more... In the same way, in my Transition's folder, I can only see externals pluggins, not FCPX native's ones. Did I miss something ? Chris from France
That works too! The reason I lift it is because often I have sound effects and stuff attached underneath and so it just ensures that everything stays where it should be. Instead of hitting Shift H, having the timeline shift, and having to try and cut down the held frame at the correct duration.
Dylan, your videos are superb, very good information but… Please hold the music! It is way too conflicting with a very complicated sequence of clicks and concepts. Carreon though I'm watching and thanks!
Ah great feedback, Chip! I struggle with that because some people have told me that I should have the music be a bit louder. I'll lower it from now on though. I appreciate it!
