Excellent video, I found it because I picked up a cheap 22v46 unit from local fire dept and needed to fix some issues. Had a suggestion on the part about installing a rear link on the deck on the right side as well. It is a great solution to the design flaw of allowing only left side to be adjustable. However, even after the link is installed, the deck is still quite low, even on the setting of 6, even when the nuts are tightened to the top of the threads. A solution to this is inserting a 1" bushing ( a cut section of 3/8 iron pipe works well) above the nut on both sides. With this the nuts can be tightened to halfway, with a leeway of adjustment on either side. Also at that level, Setting 3 or 4 gives a mild cut, 2 gives a moderate cut and setting of 1 a very low cut, almost scalps. With 5 or 6, the deck is pulled up to its highest level possible and travel without mowing is very good and tight and rattle free even over bumpy ground. You also would need to tighten the front nut as well.

As far as trying to raise the deck( also for ease of loading on trailers) I would like to find someone who has gone to a bit bigger tire/wheels size. I have my deck raised as high as it will go without throwing a belt, and I barely get a 3" cut! Not many riding mowers achieve 3" cuts, go figure. I also have the YTH22V46 Husqvarna. I also have used the two bagger system for mowing and vacuuming grass clippings with previous mowers and saw a triple bagger this time during the purchase of my tractor and after I mounted everything to a perfect fit and function, I saw that the triple bagger is for the 48" + mowers. I had no difficulties mounting and using that bag system on my 46" and it's great going that extra distance without stopping to empty a bag often.... I'm glad I accidently found this out. Generally 2 baggers are for 46" and less while triple baggers are for 48" and more. Hope this helps anyone.

I just added that 2nd adjustable mower rod to my Husqvarna. I couldn't find any online. However, the dealer had one for under $15.00. They laughed when I said I saw one online for $40 but they were out of stock. I gained a 1/2" in height, however, it's better than nothing. All mowers should have the capability to cut 5" or higher in my opinion. Some times you got to go into the weeds!

After going through multiple bearings and finally destroying the inner bore of the rims, I bought new rims and went back to bushings. The single row ball bearings cannot handle the side loads from turning. Bushings handle more load and work great if you keep them greased.

Thanks to the bean counters, company's always make things cheaper while they charge more for it! The mower height problem is obvious, these machines need larger diameter wheels, but that cost them more!

Another desirable upgrade is to insert 2 slender washers and a torington needle bearing washer between the front axle and the steering knuckle. It reduces turning effort required. My problem is keeping air in the front tires! I removed the wheel assembly, aired them up leaving the stem cap off, and submerged them completely in a water bath. After 3 minutes, I still did not see a single bubble from either side, yet the tires go flat after 2 days of inactivity.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Месяц назад
Yes, I have heard its call the "poor mans power steering" I am going to try it and most likely will have a video out on it. You obviously have a leak in your tires. Check the maximum allowed tire pressure on the side wall of the tire and max out the pressure. Then submerge in water. That should help find the leak. OR just put tubes in the tires and be done! Whatever you do; DO NOT put plugs in the tires. They will not hold up. You may get a little time out of that type of repair but soon enough thy will leak.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Poor man's power steering is definitely the way to go! I installed it on my Craftsman LT2000 and it works great. I also installed wheel bearings. I can now turn my mower with one finger and push it just by leaning on it with one hand. All lawn tractors should have these upgrades become a standard feature. It's ridiculous that they are not. 🤨

Check the part number for your pre-filter on your twin Briggs just to make sure your getting the correct filter. You can do the wheel bearings upgrade. The kit should be the same but if you use the kit in this video, you will get black dust caps. There is a John Deere kit, that will give you the yellow caps. Thanks for a great video. I have a 9 year old Husqvarna 48in and the deck has the leveler hangers on both sides. My question is my highest setting 3.5 is too high and my next setting 3.0 tends to scalp sometimes because my land is somewhat bumpy 2.5 acres. Can I move the height to get a slightly higher cut by adjusting the levelers up a few threads?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines

Yes, adjust all three (don't forget the front deck adjuster) the same amount so you keep the deck level.
@fredrickward7672

@JohnsonsSmallEngines I don't see a front adjuster. There is a rod that fits in a hole and pinned. There is a hinge type bar that is also pinned that moves as you adjust cutting heights. Wish I could send you a picture .

10:28 When those spindles wear, & I've have had some wear very bad you can replace those bushings with PLASTIC bushings, the plastic bushings are longer and will cover MORE of the spindle length than the worn area thus allowing you to NOT have to buy new spindles.

curious why would you grease a sealed bearing?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Месяц назад
There are many opinions on this subject. You can perform a search and take all into consideration to make your decision. My opinion, the sealed bearing will take grease by the pressure from greasing them (its a proven fact, watch a video on it). The other side of that is, if you do not keep grease around the bearings (like in the empty rim hub or blade mandrel), water will enter the bearing (fact, I see it all the time from people washing there machines that do not grease the blade mandrels). I would never want the hub assemble of the front wheels empty (always fill with grease). If not, water will enter, then enter the bearing and ruin it prematurely seal or no seal. The bearings made today do not have the tight tolerances as back in the day. Seals will let water in and also allow grease to be pushed in.
@jeffcalo8358

Should rear wheel bushings be replaced with bearings also?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines

There are no busings in the rear wheels as your rear wheels are connected to axles that go into a transmission.

@beekeeperzo
@beekeeperzo Месяц назад
The description of the bearings in the link to Amazon says they are sealed and you do not have to grease. But, it also says that the rear seal of each bearing is removable if you want to use grease. I don't think that was addressed in the video, or maybe I missed it.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Месяц назад
Everyone has their own opinions. My opinion is as I describe at the end of the video, pump the hub full of grease after you install the roller bearings and you should be fine. I do not take off the inner seal but many people do. You can do what you will. I have seen many 30 year old John Deere machines with the original roller bearings that now need to be replaced and from the factory 30 years ago, the roller bearings were installed with both shields on the bearings and little to no grease in the hubs. You couldn’t even grease the older John Deere rims because they had roller bearings and still last 25 plus years. Now I do believe nothing is made like it used to be but like I said, install the bearings, grease the hubs and you should be good for a long time. Verses just having the bushings in the hubs wearing both the axle and bushings out.
@beekeeperzo
@beekeeperzo Месяц назад
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I believe I would be better off to remove the seal and grease. I've been pumping it full of grease since I got mine 6 or 7 years ago. I had no idea that it was only bushings or I would have changed them out long ago. I don't have any wiggle, so maybe it's not too late. Thanks for the video.
