Are these products weird or genius for crochet? It might be a little bit of both, but nonetheless I’ve found significant crochet benefits from these non-crochet items! I also use a boppy. It’s a breast feeding pillow that wraps around your waist. It allows you to lay your project on it and I find I don’t hunch over as much. My kitty loves to lay on it now too when I crochet 😆

This is so smart! I've done the "carefully balance random pillows under each elbow" method. 😂 But a boppy would be much more consistent and streamlined to use.

Yes, I haven't wanted one for that same reason. For now, I get a lap desk or pile pillows or whatever to set my project at eye level so that I'm not doing the hunch.

For compression gloves, for medical reasons do not wear them for more than 8 hours at a time. And if you wear them frequently, you will probably need to replace them every few months because they stretch out over time.

Side note about the auto off function: The timer would be really good for enforcing breaks or acting as a kind of alarm without the annoying or jarring alarm itself. As someone with ADHD and HORRIBLE sense of time as a result, this could be a useful way to use that function. Alarms stress me the heck out.

Might I suggest that you crochet while sitting at your kitchen table, or purchase an adjustable 'C' table for use at the couch? Simply resting your elbows higher may allow you to keep your neck higher.

Girl, you are all good! Btw, I'm an Amanda too, how often do we hear THAT? LOL 😂 Anyway, my non-crochet item that I use constantly are metal bowls. These are the small metal "mixing" bowls that were wicked popular in the 80's, and can now be found regularly at thrift stores. I really like the small, 6" - 8" diameter ones because they just fit a ball of yarn. The metal is slippery for the yarn to move smoothly as I crochet out of it, and the small bowl fits neatly between my legs. 😊

Lol, found this yrs ago. I was struggling with a ball of #10 cotton while working on a white work project and, in frustration, I popped the ball into a stainless steel bowl to corral that darn thing and voila! Never looked back. 😂😂😂

We really have the coolest name 😎😂 I know exactly the bowls you are talking about, and I've done the same! I've recently started caking my yarn with a yarn winder, and I'll throw the yarn into the bowl while I wind it. It feeds so effortlessly!

Me too. Very bad arthritis in the knuckles of my working hand . I also have tiny bony hands so I'm excited they come in xs. I also quit smoking so I have been having trouble remembering to take breaks. I'm certainly going to purchase everything. My insurance just gave me a Fitbit so I will be set! Never thought to use it that way. Thank you so much.

Can really recommend using a neck light. Luckily mine, also from Amazon has all the good points mentioned. Use it at my sister's when i house sit as she has a different lighting set up. Good for dark yarns.

I have also seen people wearing 'fishing gloves'. They are fingerless gloves with little lights on the knuckles. Seems that there are several lighting options.

I might have to look in to those! I tried a pair by a different brand that had an adjustable wrist strap. I loved that feature, but that particular pair cut off circulation in my fingers so I returned them. But maybe the copperfit ones would work for me!

That opening line.. I definitely feel that. I was weird WAY before I started crocheting. Anyway, I may need to go and buy compression gloves. I found my brother's old batting glove from when he played baseball back in high school, and I've been using that (with the fingertips cut off), but it's a little bit bulky.

They're great for reading, using phone, etc, too! I got mine specifically for crocheting, but have found them helpful for reading while lying down as well.

I use whatever is around to hold my phone at the right angle on the arm rest of my couch, sometimes it wants to slip down so I put a darning needle into the arm rest in front of it so it doesn't slip, lol

I live in fl, and, during hurricane season, we lose power for extended periods of time, often. Since I got my necklight I can still continue my crafting even when the lights are out. Also helpful for when I need to get around the house when there's no power and I need my hands free for various things.

The neck light would be something I could use. We have what they call "loadshedding" which means that our lovely government switches of the electricity 2 or 3 times a day for 2 too 4 hours at a time which is super annoying if you want to crochet after dark. Happy crocheting❤

Personally my fav item is a decorative pillow with a pair of bunnies printed on it. it's the perfect thickness for me to lean my elbow on it while crocheting :) it makes it easier to hold my work & crochet if I don't have to hold the entire thing up in the air myself

Re: your opening statement; Crocheting makes you unique and exceptional. The reason is this, mankind has not made a machine yet that can duplicate the intricacies of crochet. There's a weft machine that knits the same way we do, by going side to side horizontally in course-wise rows. You can buy a small home version that you can clamp to the side of your table or workbench. The closest they have come to a crochet cannot do better than single crochet. But then it failed and now it's in a junkyard or a museum, I forget which. They did think up a machine that knits in vertical rows, or wale-wise (remember corduroy pants and their vertical wales) called the Warp knitting machine. It has a funky pattern to the way it knits going side to side - not that you would notice on the outside of the regular knit that it does - and does closely to the way a crochet stitch is made, but still misses by a country mile. P.S. Btw, if your compression gloves are too loose and you already have the extra small version, pick up a needle and thread and make a longer dart, the same as you would in a skirt or dress pants that have a bit of bag or sag above the full part of your butt... only, now that I think of it, it would be more like the French darts on a gentleman's dress shirt or a lady's basic sheath dress. You know the ones that go from just under the breasts down slightly past the waist to tuck it in and give a better figure. So, turn it inside out, try it on, stick a pin in it to Mark the Spot, apply needle and thread and make a Dart.

I own cats and I buy them treats they come in a plastic jar with a very nice lid. When empty I wash them and let them dry and throw a dryer sheet in them. I melt a hole in lid and they work great for a ball of yarn.

I prefer sewing needles over tapestry needles because they can easily get in between the fibers of the yarn and better secure your ends

Just be careful with the head lamps, the back of the lamp and the elastic can cause traction alopecia. I'm a cosmetologist and my husband had this happen with his head lamp.

I've been wanting a necklight especially as I just finished a pair of BLACK slipper socks ... again. 🙄 On the bright side, Amazon had a lightning deal on this neck light & I got a good deal with overnight shipping. 😄 YAY! I also do other fine motor fiddly things like knitting, tatting, cross stitch, Nalbind, etc. I'm happy to see it's rechargeable instead of needing to replace batteries. Your neck lightbis great! I got one off Amazon Yeats ago and it has that hard box you were talking about. Butnthe box is not what bothered me. What bothered me was the whole thing had these like ripples on it. It wasn't a soft foam it was a plastic covered in a rippled rubber and the ripples helped the thing to bend. But my hair always get caught in those ripples. So I crocheted a cover for the light. A few years later my kids also wanted a necklight, they use them as night lights sometimes. They also wanted the crochet cover because they said the ripples sometimes pinched their little fingers.

My other neck light has similar ripples, but it's a harder plastic so fortunately doesn't catch as much hair as yours does! Crocheting a cover sounds like a great solution. Also that sounds like something I would do - buy something to help me crochet, and then have to crochet something for it so I can actually use it 🤣 Crochet is a handy skill to have for sure!

I actually sent back my first one because it didn’t work and I hadn’t read the instructions. I ended up re-ordering it, and once you read the instructions the rest of it’s very easy, but it did require an extra second to power up.

I just received the prism glasses and neck light. Still charging up the light, but the glasses are amazing! I’ve never seen these before. I have my first granddaughter arriving in June and will begin an heirloom baby blanket in a few days. These will be so great to avoid neck and shoulder aggravations. As an older peraon, who has recently started crocheting, I am very interested in the compression gloves and prism glasses because I have arthritis and tendonitis in my hands, but also have herniated and bulging discs in my neck. With regard to the prism glasses, however, I also wear bi-focal glasses. Do you think they could be worn together? Or do you know of maybe any clip on prism glasses that I could wear over my own?

Great question! I'm doing a bit of field testing (aka having my family members who wear glasses try the prism glasses over their own glasses 😂) to see if it would work or not. Once I've tested it out and gotten their opinions, I'll be sure to let you know what I find! I did a quick search on Amazon for "prism glasses clip on" and found only one listing that is a pair of the prisms that would clip to the nose bridge of a pair of glasses. With that said, they're listed at $46.99 and only have 5 reviews. So I don't feel very confident they'd be a good option. Also, I hope your herniated and bulging discs improve! My mom dealt with that a few years back, and it was very challenging for her. So you have my sympathy and prayers ❤️

a non crocheting item that I use are sandwich bags that seal..I will grab one to put my ball of yarn into so that as I'm pulling the working yarn and the ball is rolling it rolls in the bag, not around the floor..keeps it way cleaner..and if I grab the larger ones then I can put my project in (if it's not going to be to big) to keep it all together and easy to throw into my handbag so that I have it on hand if I have time to kill whilst waiting for something..

I work with fine, very black fibers A LOT, so my go to non crochet tool to assist is my wrap around the neck LED rechargeable lights (Amazon, various brands & prices). Without these lights, i have to wait for a sunny day to see the stitching.

Prism glasses are such a good idea!! The fact I can just sit like a normal human and not have to worry about piling so many dang pillows around/under my arms to get comfortable wpuld be astounding! But i wonder, would a boppy pilow still be necessary? Is it comfortable to crochet on your lap flat like that?

So the answer is yes and no haha I can get by with just the prism glasses and maintain pretty good posture and high level of comfort. BUT combining the prism glasses with a boppy pillow is the ultimate in crochet comfort! I sit with good posture and don't tire out because my arms are also supported.

Try stick in clear silicone nosepads, like 3m. They can be cut and fit on ur nose area for extra lift

I love the composition gloves however, they make my fingers freeze. Now I use kT tape to get the blood flowing on my forearms and shoulders to relax my muscles.

So the prism glasses create roughly a 90 degree downwards view. I've used these glasses to read- reclined, knees bent, book on my knees. And I can get them to sit where I can easily see the book. Sometimes I'll fold up a small piece of tissue/kleenex and put it under the bridge of the glasses to adjust the angle to get it perfect for whatever position I'm in. While I can't say they'd 100% work in the scenario you describe, I think it's highly likely they'd work out. Hope this helps!

Probably the original application for these glasses was reading books without needing to bend one's head forward, but they can be used for any instance where you need to see downwards but don't want to constantly crane the neck. In addition to wearing them while crocheting, I've used the prism glasses for reading, using my phone, and other craft projects where I need to see downwards but want to maintain good posture.

I have a neck light and love it. I bought it especially for crocheting. I have animals so I don't need the pedometer lol. I wear readers, do the prism glasses come in different strengths? I have not tried the compression gloves yet. Maybe I should give them a try. I do wake up with very stiff and soar hands, but that might be from tending to the farm chores 😁

Haha, pets have a great way of keeping us active! As far as the prism glasses, I haven't been able to find ones that have readers built into the prisms. However, I did enlist my family to test out if the prism glasses could be worn over readers or prescription glasses. I haven't noticed it worsening my vision or depth perception. There is a certain quality of things looking "different"... in what way it's hard to describe. Perhaps a little bit flatter in a sense. But as I move my hands and the yarn, I don't have any difficulty with depth perception and can find my stitches easily.
