Rudiments can be boring right? Singles, doubles and paradiddles might seem like dry exercises to practice on a pad, but if you want play drums faster, more powerfully and with more creativity you need to focus on this end goal and apply these patterns to the kit. Let me show you how to get creative with these 3 patterns to transform your drumming.

It is not really the topic of this video, but maaaaaaaan, that Benny Greb snare😍. Honestly. It is the main reason I would like to have an acoustic set at some point in my life. And the new one in brass is the king of snares🤪. At least for me😉

Ben, you're a better drummer than I'll ever be, but just Remember to watch your right hand pinky, and that it is not sticking out! Just trying to help prevent injury. We care about you Ben!

@mikepzep

SyncopatedParadox those are the Promark Matt Halpern signature sticks. But you can check on his RU-vid to checkout the cymbal setup he has. They’re all Sabian.

Hi Ben, I've just started working on doubles: is it worth developing pure wrist (2 strokes per double) or solely utilising the rebound (i'm developing the push/pull tech) rather than letting the rebound solely make the second note. thanks
@n0iseboy
@n0iseboy 6 лет назад
Al Williams There's a term for that...dirty doubles. Be intent with you second stroke. It might help you to accent the second to get away from relying on rebound.
@Drumaier
@Drumaier 6 лет назад
yes, but fuck the 40 rudiments. Singles and doubles of course as you are saying, but more than rudiments aren't those just the most basic strokes ever? i mean, without playing singles you couldn't even touch the drums. Not blaming on you at all here, since you at least are talking about the core "rudiments" and not about the need to lear the 40 ones. So, from my point of view, even before worrying to much about doubles, i think is even more important to practice singles but with all limbs. Not sure that would count as singles, but anyways, when you start to play around bewtween hi hat foot, bass, LH and RH, orchestrating, and adding dynamics and silences, playing based in groups and changing/mixing subdivisions........then you may even not play a double, a drag, a flam or whatever and sound ten times more interesting and solid than a 40 rudiments master. The 40 rudiments were made for snare drum and even if wont' hurt anyone to master them, that should be the last thing to spend time with ( despite that is taught as the basic fucking alphabet of drumming (fuck off with that shit!) ). NAh, the basic alphabet of drumming is always land the notes on the subdivision grid you are playing, then mastering singles with all limbs ( in any combinations of groupings and subdivisions), dinamics, and composition. Because if you can't create something that sounds perfect or at least that goes well with and enhances the music you are playing, then no matter how fast, how technical, how big the database of rudiments you have in your head...nothing matters. Fuck the 40 rudiments all the way, i would erase them from history if possible. Back to the topic, good video here, keep the good work.

Respectfully, your misleading people by implying you can get a free hit on a double stroke. You have to earn that clean double.
@BenMinal

I know what you mean, but once you've got it down it is like having access to another note for one hit
