Welcome to more Petri Experiments! They are so addictive and pretty! These beautiful small creations can be easily framed in shadow boxes and be hang on the wall.
***Safety is another topic I will be talking about soon in a video, but until then, I recommend everyone to wear a respirator, nitrile gloves, an apron or lab coat, and use resin in a separate room from the living areas and well ventilated so that your family members and pets don't breathe the paints and resin while it's curing.
Here is my respirator:

On an earlier video you said you wait 10 min before adding the ink, why is that? And why do you only use pinata white and not Tim Holtz white, is pinata better?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 лет назад
Hi Diana, you can drop the inks strait away in the resin or wait few minutes to let the resin settle a little so it's not so runny. Sometimes, depending on the interior conditions, your resin can be a little runnier and the inks can sink deeper when you drop them. The solution for that is to give it few minutes before you drop the inks so the resin has the time to start curing a little (getting thicker). If you see that your resin is already thick (from experience), you don't need to wait at all. But to be honest, I do all of those things and get marvellous results and also different from each other. Over time you can see what you like and maybe stick the same process, but I love to try it all. For the White Piñata, from all my research, the density of the piñata is perfect for this project. I actually did my research before starting these and never even bought Tim Holtz one because I never had the need. The white pigment is heavier than other colours and pushes the other colours down in the resin and works well. Maybe one day I will buy Tim Holtz white just to experiment but lots of people say that it isn't as effective. Thanks for watching! I am posting a new video on Sunday :) :) I made 3 projects in 1 video and different molds :)!

Gosh they're gorgeous 👌. Does resin give off toxic fumes when curing? Also, whenever I've tried alcohol inks, I'm so heavy handed when squeezing and end up putting too much in. How do you manage to be so precise with yours using just one drop at a time? You're so gifted I love your channel
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 лет назад
Hi! Thank you :) I have no idea how I can be so precise with the drops :) I guess patience! I use a respirator (full face) when I work with resin. It does have fumes when it's curing. I close the door and do it in a resin designated room.
@deborahol
@deborahol 5 лет назад
@@ArijanaLukic Aww thank you for replying 😊. Ahh right, very wise then having a designated room, I didn't know that about the fumes. The inks yeh, good patience and a steady hand is definitely needed. I'd love to make a few as good as yours, they're just so lovely to look at, mesmerising. I bet they look amazing as wall hangings too. I could watch loads of videos of just these I love seeing how you do it. The colours you put together are always beautiful too!
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 лет назад
I guess let yourself do trial and error. As long as you make them, you will end up with something AMAZING. For the colours, I never pick them in advance. I am a spontaneous person that likes to mix colours in the flow. I have about 60 inks beside me and I just pick the combo before dropping the inks :) It's fun! I find that best combos are contrasting colours. :)

Love these they are beautiful! What kind of resin are u using if you don’t mind me asking?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 лет назад
I use Art Resin. I tried another brand for 4 weeks and I hated it, so Art Resin is the only one I use and used 95% of the time. There are other choices too depending if you need a resin that is more heat resistant and stronger. In this case you can try Countertop Epoxy www.countertopepoxy.com/ or Faux Rizzle artresinfauxrizzle.com/ If you are making artwork that won't be handled a lot, but displayed only, then Art Resin is fine and it's pretty forgiving when mixing. The molds I buy I never ever had to use a release agent. I buy silicone only and none of them broke until this day. If your resin sticks to the mold it can be caused by wrong measure of resin to hardener or using too much heat to pop bubbles? Or just a bad mold? I guess more details are required to determine the issue but for sure the molds have to be made of Silicone only and have a shiny surface inside so that you get the see-through effect. Matte ones are ok too but then you have to coat the object with another fine coat of resin again to get to see-through or resin will be matte when it cures. All the links to the molds I use are in the description of each video. I will be posting new ones soon as well. I hope this helps!

Arijana Lukic yes thank you so much! I’ve used art red for the past year and just switched to pro marine and I had this exact mold. I’m pretty sure I used to much heat I wasn’t aware it could effect it and I was torching to long I have a silicone mold I got from the store that I might try! Thanks for all the info and the links!!

Can u tell me if you’ve ever added glitter or other things to the moulds when making Petri’s with Alcohol Ink? I’ve never added anything else as I fear wasting resin/ink which is very expensive to me BUT I am curious what else to do.
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 лет назад
I never used glitter, but you can. I would just use it sparingly. They can have tendency to sink at the bottom... so maybe pre-mix glitter with resin first? Or with the colour.... I am not so much into glitter for petris, so I never tried. :)

How do you prep your molds? Are they simply cleaned, or do you use some form of releasing agent in them before pouring?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 6 лет назад
Hi Kelsey, I spend some time cleaning my molds before pouring simply by using rubbing alcohol. I always buy silicone molds and had no problem with them at this point. I don't use release agents at this time.

How do you know when to stop adding ink??
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 лет назад
Simply Alison i just know... :) You watch your resin and you get the feel when to stop. But good rule of thumb is 3-4 rounds of colour and 3-4 of white. Experimentation is key. You may like less ink or more, that also depends on you.

Hi! can I use a hair dryer instead a heat gun?
@ArijanaLukic
@ArijanaLukic 5 лет назад
The hairdryer isn't heating enough for the bubbles to pop, plus it is too strong and would spread your resin around. A HEAT GUN is the key tool to own if you want to play with resin, and a torch too (but I don't recommend the torch with silicone molds.)
