Another amazing lesson. The hand anchoring can cause problems while speed picking. i've been through that. It is one of those things that you either realise and improve, or can block your progress for a long time. I think your explanation was spot on and will help a lot of guitarists. Thank you for the amazing exercises. You deserve far more Publikum. :-) 🤘

@@JeighNeither Exactly. We all had blocks in our guitar Journey and even though they look trivial now, they were quite big back then. I still remember what a pain were Pinch harmonics lol. And in a time where we did not have You Tube. I think we are quite spoilt now with You Tube and Bernth ''revealing'' all those little secrets. :-). Can't compaint though. I really appreciate the methods you come up with to isolate the problem areas. The 4 NPS stretch to separate the tension from the hands is one I don’t think I would have come up with on my own. The fact that you share this with the whole publikum is so unselfish. I love that you figure these things out so that I don’t have to. It’s great. I just find a video, watch it and then go practice it. One thing that has helped me a lot with tension is giving up on the slinging my guitar low. Several years ago I hiked up my guitar a lot and my hands and wrists began cooperating much more. My picking angles felt much better immediately too.

You're a brilliant teacher and i'll never have enough words to thank you for helping with breaking with that stupid cycle of frustration and never-not-going-anywhere-reaching-nothing with my skills. Nowadays after following your classes for a few years i can play loud and clear my favorite solos (i play mostly pantera, slayer...) and get the job done onstage feeling fun and confident. As good as going to therapy i would say haha! Thank you so much and i wish that your career may skyrocket, Tool is my favorite band ever and it was awesome to see you playing with them!

To the publikum, this man is just a blessing. Trust him. It’s like you been watching me play guitar spiritually, and this was my problem and I was realizing this when transcending to the thicker lower pitch strings. Shared with my wife that I hope to get any patreon stuff for X-mas. She thinks this is cool cause I hit guitar ruts all the time as a new guitarist. This journey has been fun and I can’t wait to see where I’ll end up. Thank you Bernth. Much love from the Harding family (:

I'm currently working (struggling) to increase my speed for fast runs during guitar solos and this vid was very timely. Bernth and community, Your videos are great or awesome, you choose what ever you like to call it . Your approach to playing and teaching guitar plus refining is noticeably very helpful and improving my basics and guiding me towards places in guitar that I've always wanted to go. I've got my own style that you can check out later in the future. And I feel lucky and fortunate to have come across your channel. Keep shredding Keep healthy and safe Quick question....how to easily and more smoothly transition back and forth from chords and leads pr like throwing leads into chords in a way where the solo guitarist can back or accompany his leads, like basically taking the job of the rhythm and lead guitarist and merging them into one, or like eliminating the need for two guitars, let me know what that makes you like think in terms of improving that aspect or style of guitar playing. Shred on Bernth! Sincerely, Sifu Hero And Legend Harold (Hal) Churchill Hazeldine Founder and Chief Instructor of the Hero And Legend Northern Shaolin Kungfu Association ✌🤘🙏

Can I make a suggestion? It would be useful to know your picking slanting configuration for each pick stroke, upward or downward. Sometimes it's obviuos, but in some others there are different possible ways of doing it. I generally put a "D" over the first downward slanted picked note and the following notes are performed all the same, then a "U" for upward and all the following... you get the idea. Keep up the good work!

A good right hand tip is about the thickness of the plecturm (I only use orage tortex) and where the pick is held. The smaller the "exposed tip", the faster. In otherwords, hold the pick towards its base. This will take time to adopt to and the muscle in the thumb has to build strength to cope. But it is more than a marignal improvement once mastered, because the arc for each picking motion above the *selected string* is smaller in consequence
@goatsurgeon
@goatsurgeon 2 года назад
Not only the biomechanics and ergonomics of picking, which you did an excellent job of covering- but stamina! If you practice getting your picking longevity up at lower speeds, it will up your maximum speed. The trick is to practice in that comfort pocket. 80 bpm I’ve found is a magical number because you can go super slow, mid tempo, or blazing fast because in a sense it’s also 160 bpm double timed. If you manage to build that endurance, your max speed will boost like nuts 🥜 And you’ll get squirrel 🐿 fingers

I have also found what helps me keep control of my picking hand is to minimize The contact of my pic with the string just grazing the pic across the very top of the string giving the desired sound that you want and greatly reduces the sound of my pic going across the strings so that the sound of my guitar is more clearer and cleaner because you don’t hear the sound of the pic going across the strings nearly as much thus making The sound Of my guitar more exclusive and with better control by just rolling my pick across the top of the string

You've answered one question for me that I've never seen an answer to in 30 years. That being arching the hand vs moving the whole hand. Thank you for that. I do have a question about economy of motion in both hands, actually. For the picking hand, doesn't a tiny picking motion make the jumps from string to string seem MASSIVE? How do you overcome that? For the pressing hand, doesn't focusing on not letting the fingers move too far cause huge tension in the hand? (It does for me) Please help!

I noticed that I also have another problem with alternate picking. If I place my fretting hand in a start position and play form there, then it works out fine. But when I have to move my hand from one position to another along the fretboard, my alternate picked runs get very unsynchronised. For example you have a vibrato on 14th fret and then jump to alternate picked run from 8th fret. I guess the problem is in the jump from one position to another.
