Love this, Jimmy! definitely wholeheartedly agree about your point that the Worship Leader is not just the paid staff member or the Frontline singers. The whole band is made up of a group of worship leaders! 🔥

This is going to be a long comment… so bear with me. I’m not sure how I feel about this video… mostly because I have played with the church band (they asked me, I didn’t ask them), and although I try, I’m not quite there in the believing area. But I did still feel like I was helping other people worship, and that felt kind of good/like I was doing good. I play electric guitar, and no one else there really does. It’s only a very small church. Before, when I was trying to work out what my purpose was, I had the feeling that I could help get more/younger people interested by playing more of the upbeat/modern songs, and actually on the times that I did play, people did seem more engaged in the music. A mum told me that her kid really liked the guitar (I know he normally doesn’t pay any attention because most Sundays I see him just playing games on his phone). It was Battle Belongs that first got my attention a few years ago. I’d gone along to my wife’s church (when I really wasn't a believer at all) and was really bored and not even paying attention, and then they played that song. Pretty much since then, most of the songs I listen to are religious ones. Including ones I actually learn on guitar, so I know the power music can have, so felt like that was something I could do to give back. But I get what you’re saying about being a true believer to lead people… but I wasn’t trying to lead… I’m just trying to help them a bit… and possibly myself along the way too. Also, I definitely am not the kind of person who enjoys being up on stage in front of people, so that’s not my motive. But because this video was the first one I saw when I opened youtube after just thinking about playing in the church band again, it might be a sign that I should pass on it if they ask me again

And I totally understand that part about just wanting to serve and not really desiring to be on stage. That's really great. You mentioned you wouldn't consider yourself a believer. I'm interested, what are your thoughts about Jesus?

Good word. I personally started on the worship team and was saved about 7 years ago. I am SO thankful to have had that opportunity. My current church (my wife is the main worship leader) operates more like you’re saying here where your faith comes first before your musicianship. Thanks for the great video

How can anyone claim to “know” God and yet not be able to prove God’s existence. “God” is a concept created by man thousands of years ago to explain the unexplainable in the absence of scientific knowledge or fact. If, under the guise of worship, one can produce decent music then that’s fine however you don’t need a church and you don’t need to believe in a “god” to compose and perform good music and get the audience on their feet in celebration of that music.

There's a lot of assuming in that statement and yet you seem to believe it wholeheartedly. I wholeheartedly believe you are wrong. And I base that belief in the Bible. Even scientists can't answer in a scientific way why we are all here. It takes faith no matter what you believe. I believe people love themselves so much that they will do anything except the one thing they were designed to do: worship God and enjoy Him forever. Why do so many people run from that? That's the real question. Anyways...I totally agree that one does not need to label music "worship" or "Christian" for it to be good. Every perfect gift comes from God and points back to him. Everything we experience in this broken world is a shadow of the real thing. God is the substance! He is the foundation at which everything good flows. Take music itself for example...scientists didn't invent it. All they can do is explain and categorize what is observed. That's science. Science will fail as a god because it can do no other than which it was created. As soon as people put their faith in science, they lose sight of the Thing that created what we are observing. The good news is...everything points back to Jesus. If you love music, you should get to know the One who created it!
