Getting difficulty while making the drainage wholes in plastic pots? Just watch this video to know the 3 quick ways to make drainage wholes in any plastic pot. In case you are worrying, you would be able to make drainage holes in plastic pots without even a drill.
Whenever I use any plastic container, I always make more than one drainage wholes and I believe this is the same thing you should do. If your pot has more than one drainage wholes, chances of overwatering is literally none.
Plus, there is one more advantage of having more drainage wholes in any container. Good airflow would be maintained in a pot having more drainage wholes comparing to a pot with single drainage whole. As a result, your plant would be growing well and it would reward you with lots of blooms. If you haven't tried it yet, please do once and I am 100% sure that you would see the difference very soon.
Thank you for watching the video and please share any other ideas if you have. Thank you once again and have a great day :-)

You are the only person that I will ever thank for making me feel like a dummy. You made this look so darn easy. Now I feel less smart, but more equipped to give my plants a healthy home and pots with proper drainage! The screwdriver and Hammer method is going to have to work for me! Thanks for spreading your knowledge to us!

Oh my goodness, I had no idea those round indentation popped out like that. I have had some window plastic containers that are just sitting there because they have no holes and i did not notice until after i returned home. I was just online looking for a reasonably priced drill gun and drill bits so I can finally make the holes. I have been putting it off because as always, something else comes up that I need to wait because of cost. Your channel just came up as I was viewing the gardening channels I follow. It is so wierd that this has happened, but I am so grateful you took the time to make a video on this. I finally will be able to use these three planters I pirchased a year ago and have not been able to use, until now after viewing your channel. Again, thank you so much!

Thanks for this guide which I found very helpful. I'll just add that there's also a little useful tool you can use called a "GIMLET" , which has a bit of a screw thread on it, and helps with making holes. I discovered gimlets in my younger WILKO-WANDERING educational days, before that wonderful and beloved shop tragically expired a few weeks ago.

Thank you for doing this very useful video Chandan. I liked the first method. I dont have a drill anyways. I have been using the screwdriver and flame method for making holes in plastic pots or plastic glasses. Works well but takes sometime as have to heat the screwdriver again n again. I use a thicker screwdriver and have to heat it for quite a bit the first time. I remember trying the first method for a small plastic pot...but I think it did not have a pre-made hole spot and so when I tried to make a hole....the impact cracked the base. Started using the flame method thereafter.
@GardeningUpbeat
@GardeningUpbeat 4 года назад
@Anupam S, Most welcome n thank you very much for the feedback, appreciate it :-) Agree with you, Flame method takes time but with small scredriver can be done bit faster, just need to move it a bit in a circular way to make the holes. Also, pointed end of a steel knife would work as well. I do use the kitchen knife as well but my wife get angry if I make her kitchen knife dirty...LOL..So, better to use the screwdriver :D

@jnanateja
@jnanateja 3 года назад
Hi - I made many drainage holes that are half the size of yours - about 3 mm diameter mainly to avoid losing soil as I don't have material to cover the larger holes. Are smaller holes ok to drain water?

Hey thanks. In your experience, what's the ideal diameter to let water out without letting too much soil out?
@donnasaenz7175
@donnasaenz7175 2 года назад
After drilling the holes, try adding some of the small, flat, decorative pebbles to the bottom of the pot (sold in Walmart, garden and hobby stores, etc.) taking care to no cover-up the holes. This works for me. It will keep the soil from washing out. I've also used, other small rocks, broken pieces of pottery and such, to slow the wash-out problem.

3-4 is more than enough and if you like, you can also do 6..I usually do more that way, there is very less chance of soggy soil and roots also get enough oxygen.

@@skbaba234 I don’t really understand the physics behind it, but when I was making some planters using those storage buckets I found that if I pushed the button that reverses the direction the drill spins it makes a cleaner cut in plastic. I’ll make a video maybe to explain if it would be beneficial. I am out of town for two weeks, but let me know and I’d be happy to make a little video showing. Several people all had the same issue - the drill was tearing the plastic and would slip around the plastic. Reversing the direction eliminated all of that for the most part leaving a clean and fairly smooth hole behind. You can get a variety of drill attachments that will cut out a variety of sized holes. There are some that just look like a drill bit with a wide bit at the end but there are also some that are shaped like the hole you’re wanting to make and also come in a variety of sizes. The bit is fine for smaller holes, but the bigger holes do better with the ones that are circular and the size you’re needing, especially for hydroponics.
@TheFrugalMombot
@TheFrugalMombot 29 дней назад
@@katherine9109 I honestly had to rewatch the video to remember why I said something, but now I remember. Also, if you’ll notice at the beginning of the video how the holes have a bunch of burrs in it and it isn’t a clean cut really? Reversing the direction of the drill will make a much cleaner hole as well as reducing slippage, which honestly can kind of be risky for injury. Your drill should have a little button or slide switch to change the direction it spins.
