Can I just say (because no one else will comment about it) I love the 'outro' . The intro is amazing, in your face, the viewer knows that their halo thirst will be quenched! The outro is so simple! It's fantastic! Keep it up mate! I've watched loads of different halo RU-vid channels over the years and your videos are easily the best. Covering more detail or odd topics that halo lore fans love. Anyway, could you recommend any halo books/novels formme to start with. I've played the games and I think it's time to start reading the books now. Thanks for the great videos!
It’s funny. The Halo games are pretty PG-13 for the most part, but then the books are just all-out hard R ratings. I remember being so disturbed reading about Jenkins. Poor guy. But it was stories like that that helped make the Flood from just “space zombies” into something truly horrifying.
*APuckettCinema* I remember playing Halo for the first time, thinking, "hey, this is pretty badass and nothing that I could possibly find scary in here", but oh boy, when you find out that lore, it's completely different and terrifying.
Funny seeing Halo 2 with that crazy FOV at the beginning. I love the Halo CEA terminal that shows the flood trying to break Keyes' mind. Especially if you've read 'the Flood'.
Something about actually being able to see your own characters arm has a realistic touch to it that not enough games approach lol. I hope terminals come back into the halo franchise soon for more creepy and eary cutscenes, they were an amazing addition.
Yeah especially that part in Halo: The Flood, where it went in depth on how keyes would slowly lose every precious memory to the proto-gravemind and to top it off it was demonstrated as being washed away by a "flood"! Just brilliant simply brilliant, one of the few parts in that book that were actually interesting lol.
@@PG_Biggins i think that if you take alien: covenant, switch aliens with flood and put a Resident Evil game mecanics and terror style would be awesome
Will you ever cover the Marine that almost made it through the library? Chief even thought "he must have been one tuff son of a bitch" for getting that far un augmented
It’s also really cool if you have ever read the book contact harvest and learned that Jenkins was actually one of sergeant Johnson’s colonial militia men when humanity first came into contact with the covenant. Kinda interesting to know where he came from how he unfortunately died. It’s an interesting story
You forgot to mention on Jenkins story that he attempted to destroy a key part of the ship, and failed as his captors prevented him. The true hero was another marine, Lieutenant McKay, had seen how desperate Jenkins was in trying not only to end his suffering, but prevent the escape of the flood. McKay pulled the pin on a grenade next to the weak point, and Jenkins wispered a thank you before the detonation ended everyone's lives on that ship.
Yeah I'd say that's the most important detail in Jenkins' story. An entire ODST company could've survived and made it off Alpha Halo and back to Earth onboard a Covenant ship. The ODSTs were capable enough that they managed to secure important sections of the ship even though it was infested with both Covenant and the Flood. I got the sense that they could've possibly secured the entire ship and get back safely if only Major Silva wasn't too hasty to take off and instead patiently let his troops sterilize the ship. Lieutenant McKay could've tried to change Silva's mind, but she didn't want to take any chances. McKay saw she was in control at that moment, she had the perfect chance to secure the threat. And so she made the hard choice to kill everyone onboard to be absolutely certain no Flood would escape.
ZacEffron, the Flood did perform one surprise attack into the engine room in an attempt to take it from the ODSTs, but that swarm was eradicated in less than a minute and the entrance they used was welded shut. After that they started debating whether they should sweep the ship of any and all Flood or not. This to me says that they could've been capable of fully securing the ship had they all agreed to focus on that. Plus I find it way more interesting when big difficult sacrifices are put into question in terms of whether they were actually necessary or not.
Glowaru again the flood knows how to hide. They don't need much space and that ship is insanely large. "A single floodspore can destroy a species". Johnson knew there were more aboard and they didn't have any time before the ring exploded to clean the entirety of it
What if the flood was sjt Johnson, and the infection forms were sjt Johnson heads and when they infect you you turn into sjt Johnson and the carrier form is a big sit Johnson head that explodes with tons of tiny little sit johns heads.
Wouldn't mind that at all honestly. Except for the fact that people would be driven insane by the amount of sass and badassery, and no company would be able to keep up with the demand for moar cigars
Still waiting on a stand-alone flood game. Maybe a game where you are just an ordinary human soldier like in odst and it goes like normal until you see that flood signature move where they crash-land onto the planet and then it becomes a fight for survival with a halo: reach ending where the planet is lost. Thatd be so fun. And they could have more missions like Halo 2’s “High Charity” mission, one of the only missions where you felt totally alone while the whole city was overrun around you. And this time you wont have a Cortana, so to speak, talking to you and guiding you. Its just you. Just my opinion to really make the flood scary. And it would totally work. Holy shit i want this to happen lol
I think it’s be even worse if you had a squad like in reach and it was your responsibility to rescue citizens before they were infected. But the games storytelling could be dynamic and change according to the decisions and ability to save or condemn marines or citizens. With some sort of RPG or turn based mode mixed inbetween missions and such. Hot damn... just like those marines in halo 3 that you try desperately to save in the first flood encounter.
I still have my original halo 1 soundtrack CD. I still remember the morning it got delivered, i almost didnt get up when the delivery guy was knocking.. but was i thrilled when i did and found out my halo music had arrived!
Funnily enough. That song was, I believe, written for the Halo 2 sound track ans was one of the few songs written by a band for a game to pull the band away from monetary issues. I don't know if this is true or not, but I like to believe so, as it is an amazing song for an amazing game.
You forgot to mention how Jenkins asked for a grenade, then pulled the pin and held it close as the ODSTs closed the cell’s door, the explosion tearing through his body, letting him finally embrace death. Still, I think the story of the Mona Lisa should be on the list. ONI experimenting on both Human and Alien POWs and prisoners. The attempt of a hivemind. And the eventual downfall.
Number 3 is the scariest to me. No outside contact, no ships to escape with, presumably no weapons, nothing. Just food for the slaughter. Alas poor Artist, we hardly new ye.
yeah but ngl that would be terrifying when the sunset passes you check your painting and you see a dark splodge that shouldn't be there and when you look up its there and over the following hours you see chaos get closer and closer and like you said no weapons no escape, trapped to be devoured by the inferno of the flood.
I am glad you saw my tweet and are FINALLY BACK WITH SOME FLOOD LORE. Lit bro. You should do a video on how the flood alters human DNA and Alien DNA. Or I might do it. Either way would love to see something like this on that channel
I've read defender of the storm, it's pretty damn hectic. After reading it, I felt a whole different experience replaying through the arbiter and the oricale missions.
I remember my first time reading The Flood (this was actually after I beat the original Halo campaign for us first time so it was the whole beginning) and just being absolutely captivated by the Jenkins story, I honestly paid more attention to him and the Elite with Yap Yap then any other characters.
Every time I play Halo CE, I see Jenkins. Knowing what lies in store for him, I always just give him a single cartridge of lead. The only intentional Marine death I ever take part in all the games.
CTUJackBauer00 I It was in the book The Flood. A infection form landed on his back and stabbed into his neck. Cortana then used Master Chiefs armor to creat a electrical shock and kill the infection form.
In the short story, "Human Weakness," the Gravemind tempts Cortana with the prospect of living in an environment where she can sense everything just as a living creature could. That got me thinking: might it be possible that the Gravemind subjects its hosts to an simulated afterlife? After all, the Gravemind doesn't understand why the lower species hate it and the flood so much.
I would love a Halo game where you played as a marine vs the flood. Love all the lore behind them and I agree that they have so much potential for a horror game. Good vid dude.
Number 3 was just sad , like imagine painting something so pretty and thinking your safe forever and some big ass ship crashes near you with some crazy creatures on it and destroys everything
imagine you being a grunt with your grunt family living in the holy city and then the lights go out and you hear the screams of the entire people you know being turned into flood mass
the story of Jenkins is possibly the biggest reason i was extremely hesitant to let my younger siblings ever read that particular halo book. didn't even know about the other two stories.
The necromorphs are still scarier imo and i think thats just because ive known the flood for so long. Like if the huge flood tentacles actually grabbed you and tried to drag you away mid-game thatd raise the bar. They need to make a stand-alone odst-type game (basically where you are just a normal human not a spartan) where its a utter survival during a brutal flood outbreak. 343 has no idea how much money theyd make if they did that. Maybe like from a forerunner’s point of view as the flood land on the planet. And have a Halo: Reach type ending where at the end, the battle is lost and the planet is overtaken. Fucking goldmine for 343; as much as they go for money grabs nowadays.
Thomas Morales agreed! You should copy and paste your comment then send them it. 😂 These companies LITERALLY have full control over what they make but never, never, NEVER follow the cool ideas their communities think up. It's ridiculous and shows you just how horrible the industry, and media in general, actually is.
Omfg! Awesome! You used the siege outbreak theme 7:17. LOL it gives me nostalgia because I always saw Siege’s outbreak mode as a “what if” flood attack scenario on earth. And now you used it here! Coincidence? Also I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought this theme fitted the flood very well( it also fits the overall theme of the Mona Lisa ).
I personally would love to see a flood mode on the Mona Lisa with a horror ambiance and jump scares with Armor that you could specifically unlock in that mode like a hazmat spartan armor
What do you think about if there is an odst who has been classified as “hyper-lethal” and had amazing skill but denied to be turned into a spartan 4? Do you think it would be a good idea for halo odst 2? And maybe not as deadly as a spartan but a more tactical type of hyper lethal, and maybe undetectable?
Not hyper lethal that rank belongs to only 6 and the Chief but I would like another ODST possibly taking place during the events of Halo 3 instead of 2
Kazuhira Miller hyper lethal is not only restricted to them. Hyper lethal is more of a rating, anyone can be hyper lethal because there are no requirements for it
I remember reading that the bones in Jenkins forearm (not specified between the two or I can't remember) was snapped in half and used as an attempted weapon while Jenkins was detained. Ooh... Also sticky grenades to the face before plummeting off the cliff and boom. Those are some good books.
Me hears dripping, me: I am not in the shower I need to grab my gun and tell the flood give me one that's 1,000 years old. And then I can say I have the best of both worlds.
