I observed this after looking at countless Thomas Kinkade paintings. His backgrounds of mountains, trees, and even distant waterfalls are usually very soft and pale. You just gave words and explanation to my observations that make it make sense!

Excellent! We have seen the wet on wet two amigos that always have the mountains so detailed... while they look good as well, this example gives the deep, far distances. Sometime, I would like to see something like this with the Appalachian style mountains which I love to paint but sometimes struggle with.

*Nice Tutorial-very informative* 👍 however the biggest challenge would be balancing background with foreground to comple the illusion of panoramic 3d view, Hope we see your next video with the mountains in background and running stream in forgound.👍

Your lesson is what I was looking for. I am painting a back drop on a model railroad layout and need distant hills. I haven't painted anything for years and had forgotten how to give distance to hills and mountains.

The reason blue is the color of distance has to do with the spectrum of light. Blue/purple light travels the farthest, so it is the prominent color that shows up at a distance. This is the first of your videos that I have seen. I like your style of painting and your kind demeanor. I shall return for more videos.
