i definitely have this gift and ppl don't understand it at all. i am completely fulfilled by my relationship with God. i've had relationships, they don't respect my values. no one wants to be celibate in 2018 and i get it, but i won't compromise and i'm more than fine not being in a "relationship" with someone that would ask me to go against God. so here we are...and i am good with that.

Single life is beyond fulfilling. Personal freedom above all. No arguing, resentments, obligations, expectations, I do what I want, when I want. I can focus on my interests and personal growth. Its a true blessing. Not knocking marriage but i think most people get married because they are just afraid of being alone.
Spot on! Once I addressed my reasons for loneliness, I no longer felt I required a relationship. Nothing is stopping a partner from leaving or dying suddenly either, so the loneliness excuse doesn't make sense once I thought about it. I have great family and friends, and I like building good relationships, but romance is not my desire at all. I have much more time for myself and being my best. No more being used and abused. Single life is wonderful!

I’ve been single since ‘94 and I turn 50 this year. I believe God wants me single. It’s hard to be content. How can I? I always wished for a family, but I never had any luck getting a girlfriend. Now that I’m almost 50, I don’t want a family anymore. But I can’t get rid of that desire. I want it gone.

I wanted marriage for as long as I can remember. Until recently. Up until about a month ago, I have decided to "let go" and leave it up to Gods Will. And I actually feel really good about that. I still do have the desire, but right now, my desire to allow Gods Will be done in my life is far stronger.

I heard one say that every single Christian is called to marriage. I also read an article recently that stated that "adulthood is for marriage." The pastor who wrote this article used absolutely no scripture to back it up. It''s like some preachers base their sermons on their personal opinion, and not the Holy Spirit & the actual bible.
I am #3. I have had a desire for marriage since I was a young child. I believe God showed me my husband in a dream. I am currently working on #3 in therapy. I will not be single forever! I have to remember that.

@@christinawatters8871 at 40 it's a tough pill to swallow but it's an age where you realize there's something wrong with you, you don't know what it is, and you know what maybe there are a million problems with you or maybe you just aren't lucky enough. Whatever it is, there's no sense in trying to "fix" it because at this point you're so unviable and so many people are unavailable that it just doesn't make sense to continue and just accept that you lived half your life this way and chances are the other half will be the same.

@@Anthony-yy3kc I come to the conclusion that at age 40 it comes down to two reasons: you’re below average looking and/or you have a personality that’s pushing people away. It’s a sad fact but many people don’t want to tell the truth to people. I’m telling you the truth because I am actually living it and understand the problem at this point. It sounds to me like you identified that your issue is to do with your personality. Even if you fixed it at this point women will question why a 40+ year old man is still unmarried and will put you under close scrutiny. The success rate of first time marriage after 40 is at a low 12% whereas at 50 your chances are down to the 5% area. Comparatively for divorces and widows, the success rate of remarriage after 40, 50 or even 60s and beyond is at an all time high of 60-80%. So that says a lot: an already married person was at some point viable and they stay viable regardless of age. Whereas a never married person who falls under the subpar looks or personality problems tend to stay single for life. It sucks but that’s just what we’re dealing with.

I don't want to discourage you but you can't know for certain that you will be in a relationship in the future. The signs Mark has discussed are not exhaustive. A individual may desire marriage and be active in looking for a spouse but God could have other plans for that person's life. I would advise you to pray about it and seek God's will first. Good luck!
But for Christian women they generally expect Christian men to approach them first. However, men seem to have this fear to pursue these days. Leaves more people single.
Not to mention, Christian women are discouraged in being the aggressor/pursuer in relationships. They always bring up that scripture: "A man that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing..." which they are essentially saying that women do not make the first move...ever! But I believe that "findeth" means to "obtain." But I could be wrong...
It's possible to be friendly to someone without pursuing them. It makes it easier for men to pursue if they know the woman at least will speak to them nicely. I agree with men doing the initiating and pursuing, but if a woman wants a certain guy and he has no clue, most likely nothing will ever happen unless he notices and likes her and musters up the nerve to make a cold call.
Sure about that? What if a Christian guy like myself is shy? Man fear to pursue woman because of FEAR of rejection, that is negative thinking. I believe even that FEAR can be alleviated and vanquished by God. I am still a new Christian following Christ and it’s better for me to focus entirely on God then a Christian girl that I am interested right now.
When I was in middle school, I was at church with some friends and I remember this prophet who I'd never spoken to before coming up to me and essentially saying, "You've been called to be single. You will find happiness in God that no man could fulfill." I was livid, especially since at that age everything was about finding a boyfriend. We questioned the validity of that statement and even though I've been in multiple relationships since to try and prove that man wrong, I'm beginning to think there may be some truth to it. I'm happiest when I'm alone. A relationship would be nice, but I don't think I'm a relationship-type person. Maybe there is someone for me that God hasn't revealed yet, or maybe there isn't. What I know for sure is, that I want God to be front and center through all my endeavors. God is true happiness.
Marriage is a ministry. God created Adam and Eve. God said it's not good for man to be alone. I never thought I would get married, but God sent me a husband.
My answer: it doesn't matter. What matters is us, presenting ourselves as living sacrifices to the Lord. That's how it is. It's not about us being happy but about pleasing the Lord. No sugarcoating or any other reason. We no longer own ourselves. It's about stewardship. If the Lord sees it fit and we can already be trusted with a relationship to do more for Him, it will happen. But it is not our life purpose.

Katlyn Barnes, I never try to fit in, I have recently learned that in life one trying to fit in, is a recipe for disaster and a waste of time And also will lead to nothing but disappointment in one’s life. However, I have an advantage I can think for my self and influence others to do so. With time and having a positive and nurturing work environment, healing and everything else will fall into place at the correct corresponding including the right lady to consider taking as a wife. About not having a desire to get married...I used to have a strong desire but since it hasn't happened I have had to let it all die...to keep hoping makes me wonder what is going to happen and that gets tiring after awhile.

There's no sugarcoating, being single especially as you get older is horrible. God himself said it is not good for man to be alone. I'll take what God said over what Paul said. All of you saying "I love being single" know you are lying to yourself and calling God a liar. Sex is amazing and if it was good even though it was sinful prior to being saved, I can't imagine how great it would be with a woman you actually love and get married to. I always dreamed of being a husband and a father and leading my family in Christ, but it never happened and my prayers for a wife went unanswered. I have been praying to God for a wife. It's over 13 years praying, but nothing happens. I am now 33 years old with no children. I begged God to many times in prayers. I have seen other people who don't pray and find good wives except for me. I feel rejected by God and it hurts to my soul to the core till I am spiritually scared.

I am a 29 years old woman. I have a strong desire for sex and marriage. But I reserve it for the person whom I am comfortable with. I am choosing this too! I had a really abusive relationship for a year. It’s not for me. I don’t catch feelings for people. I only have the desire to serve God with my everything so me staying single enables me to have all my time focused toward God! Plus I like the freedom of being just by myself! The only man I need is Jesus! He will NEVER hurt, cheat, lie, abuse me, or anything all He shows me is truth commitment and love! Why settle for less?

Melissa, I am a divorced man who definitely has decided to remain single for the rest of my life. I am not comfortable dating anyone because the rules have changed so much, and I also have reservations about the legitimacy of remarriage from a Biblical perspective. I am single but have friends and a nice church family. I still see my kids, although they blame me for the divorce. I'm content to try and help others know God and get help if they need it.

I have been married 2 times and both cheated on me. I have now been on my own for 11 plus years and have never been happier. I have become closer to God than ever in my life and no one to tell me I am wrong. I am over 70 and find I have more time than I have ever had. no arguments or no questions to be asked. I never even thought of cheating on either one.

When I was in my late teens, early twenties I thought I did but as I grew older and saw that women carry the majority the responsibility in a marriage, I said: "NO WAY"! It's a lot of work and it's not work I want to do. I don't want kids. They too are a huge responsibility that I don't want to take on. 41 and still single. Every day is a fight not to immolate myself. I am NOT good at being single. I cry way too much for a grown woman and the screaming..... there's just so much screaming at the heavens. Every fiber of my being and particle of my soul's essence struggles with it. I was born a wife without a husband. My friends all think I'm "wifely", my ex-boyfriends all refer to me as a wife they weren't ready for.... I can feel myself vibrating with anxiety as I type this. I am honestly fearful that this will last forever - fearful to the point where my soul is groaning for one reason or another. I don't appreciate singleness. I don't find singleness to be a blessing. I am not enjoying myself and this terrible attitude is removing all godliness from this "special" time. So....my prayer after this last breakup is for God to help me be OK with being single. I believe God has told me that He was someone for me, but several years have passed since then. I know I need to relax and look more to the Lord. I guess I'll just keep repenting, praying and seeking God's face and try my darnedest to trust Him and stop looking over my shoulder for "the one". There's a girl I started liking about four months ago. Back then I wasn't a Christian, but I am now and I feel like once I receive the gift of agape love, I'll have a more loving soul and I'll be able to love God more and also love my neighbors. I feel like God wants us together because we both have anxiety issues and are both Christian. We help each other out a lot with both of them and she's just so beautiful and I already feel blessed for the untypical friendship we have so far. I've never been able to fall in love, but I feel like God will bless me with a changed heart, both for Him and other human beings as He says in His Word.
Being single forever actually doesn't sound so bad. No gold diggers clamoring after your finances, no kids to drain your bank account, able to save plenty of money and become a millionaire, travel whenever you want. My goal is to own enough rental properties one day to not have to work, and then I can just travel the world, learn new languages, try new foods,and enrich my relationship with God and his people. The only downside is that there is no sex from that deal. Too many vapid and inane people these days anyways. No huge loss. The problem with our society is that we want instant gratification- it takes years to establish a truly fulfilling life. I'm eager to wait it out. If I find a spouse, then fine, if not, that's fine too. We're all different and we shouldn't automatically assume what is right for someone else should be the default that should be followed to the tee.

I would like to discuss #3. There are some of us that are alone because we have given up on speaking with the opposite sex because we have tired of hearing "no". We have gone to singles nights at church but nothing ever came of those silly meet ups. We were never handsome, pretty, outgoing, self-confident enough to get anyone's attention. As we got older, the chances of meeting "the one" dwindled down to nothing. We felt like marriage just wasn't meant for us. So, we stopped looking. We stopped any attempt of interacting with the opposite sex because we knew we would be rejected again. We gave up and walked away.
I know quite a few Christians who are single and waiting, but that in today's world, they have found it challenging to meet the right person as they seem to encounter the 2 Timothy Chapter 3 (KJV) individuals, making it substantially easier to remain single. God bless!

9/10 of you are wanting to be married for the right reasons God wants YOU to get married. Marriage isn’t a Grammy! It’s a mandate and a covenant that God wants all of his willing children to have
The Lord Yeshua (Jesus Christ) can heal you and set you free of ANYTHING--including extreme shyness. You do NOT have to be condemned to being single forever! You have free will--USE it. SEEK any healing and/or deliverance you need--through Yeshua, your Messiah. ASK Him to give you a spouse and prepare you for him/her. HAVE FAITH IN YESHUA.
I am 33 and still single. I have never truly dated in my life. And I have no desire for marriage. What makes me so angry is that American Christianity makes you find someone and they do this match making for you. And when I tell them I want to be single all my life, they tell me that I need to pray about it and that I am going against God's Plan for my life.
John Follis I agree with you. I think a lot of church people forget that Paul was single and he advocated for singleness. It’s because society (in and outside of religion) has connected the concept of worth with arbitrary things such as relationship status. People grow up with the idea that if you’re single you must be sad, broken, or less than, and it’s idiotic. People are whole. There are no “other halves,” it’s two wholes coming together if they choose to be married. Idk about you but I’m gonna keep on reminding people that their views are flawed in the Bible and societally. God bless you bro!!
My church never questions one's desire to live single for life. And even if they did I would live the way I want not the way someone else wants me to. And so I am single and striving to know God better.
Married men live something like 17% longer than single men. Probably part of that is wives are good for reminding about checkups, and making them do screenings etc. and also I imagine mental health might be healthier with a partner many times. Lastly they probably do less reckless stuff because they have a family to take care of.
I know a lot of men who have died well before expected life expectancy, and they were all married. I think the stress and pressure as well as all the long hours worked year after year burn a man out. Most "single men"that don't supposedly live so long are actually married men whose wife divorces them , thus putting them in the singles bracket. A lot of the men who live past a hundred have never been married and have no children. There appears to be no studies of life long single people and enhanced longevity.
I'm 25 and never dated or been in a relationship but for the first time in my life this year I've had a burning desire to find a partner. Therefore, a life of singleness certainly isn't for me since. Just asking God to help me control my emotions and lead me to the girl of my dreams!!!
Aaaaah, 'fret not thyself.' I will remember you in my prayers, that someone nice will come your way. Dealing with the flesh is a tricky one to deal with, believe me, we all have been through this. It's difficult to find an answer to something like this but all I can say is, your human and its natural to feel like that, but be wise when choosing a mate. The other side of the coin is, those natural feelings will die as you get older and you will have an existance of 'nothingless', in other words, you will feel nothing. So which is worse? Be wise and enjoy the excitement of 'love and being loved in return.' Aaaah, I wish I was young again......:) 'fret not thyself, just be wise.' :)
@Sheryl AguilonSomething like that happened to me when I was younger. The relationship was a nightmare. I couldn't work out what I was doing wrong. I prayed that I could meet someone who would protect me. Two weeks later a man appeared out of nowhere and the rest is history. It was the worst thing that could have happened to me. I will never forget that experience. Now I am older and wiser, I can see now, that we were 'unequally yoked.' Jesus did warn us about things like this, but as humans we will forever be falling short of the mark. Jesus also said, 'guard your heart jealously.' I really don't have the answers when dealing with affairs of the 'heart' because I have never used it in any of my decision making again, it's sad but true. Take care my friend, take care.....
What if no one is ever interested in me even though I interact with the opposite sex and I'm not chronically combative? Literally, no male has ever come up to me. I'm, for the most part, talkative. I'm kind, a good listener, have a nice smile on my face, and want to talk to them. It's just no one is ever interested.
It doesn’t mean anything in you, sometimes it’s your environment. I have lived in different cities,some of them the more are much more timid and not likely to speak to women, they rather be approached first. Other cities men are more fearless. Not telling you to move lol , but it could be environmental. Maybe some traveling can help!

I didn’t want to be 30 before I was married :(. Well a lot can happen in a few more years, just hope something *does* happen. Compared to quite a lot of guys I’ve heard about, bad exes and even bad current lovers, I would be a terrible, *terrible* shame to waste on perpetual singleness.
I'm 22, virgin, and never had a girlfriend. I've accepted the fact that I'll never marry. I don't see myself as a man with a wife and kids. Since I met Jesus, I realized He is the only one I need in my life. No need for a woman.
Courtney n I did not receive singleness as a gift, but over many years I have surrendered my desire to marry to the Lord Jesus, and he has removed it. I truly don't want to be married anymore! I have no choice but to remain celibate as single believers are not permitted to engage in any sexual activity at all. I'm fine with that too.
"marriages" plural, exactly. They hop from one relationship to the next as soon as their partner becomes a shell of a person or can't take their combatitiveness anymore. Beware!
Exactly. There is even a book called “why men love bitc**es”. I dont believe there are any rules - some people just somehow get married early and others dont. Its pretty random. I hv seen humble women get ignored n feistier rude women get taken all the time.
This "single is a gift" is Christian lingo. It's been taken to an extreme. Marriage and family upholds society. If you feel you want family and it is your hearts desire, don't let anyone tell you your singleness is ok. Singleness being a gift is for a very small minority. Paul was a travelling apostle.
1. I am afraid of loving someone. 2. There are not so many Christians where I am. I only desire a Godly man. 3. Celibacy looks very good to me. I can serve God and the people in need better when I don't have family responsibilities. Few reasons why I don't see myself getting married.
