I make organic herbal skin care. Almost all of my products are on the first page when I search similar items, but I’m still not getting sales! I got 11 sales (from locals) which I guess is why my products are on the first few pages. But it’s been daysssss and nothing 😢

I create one-of-a-kind paintings, hand-pulled serigraphs (very small editions) and one-of-a-kind paper mache works. I've received good reviews but very very rarely do I have a repeat customer because average people who buy art usually are interested in individual works by a variety of artists (so they buy one I've created and one another artist has created and so on. What can I do to hit that "repeat customers" part of Etsy's algorithm?

It's illegal to give a discount in return for their leaving a review and against Etsy's terms of service. It's considered bribery or buying a review, even though the customer can decide what rating they give on that review and whether it's positive or negative.

I'm afraid this is right. You have to be careful how you word it or it's seen as bribery. I think etsy could close your shop for that, it doesn't take much. What I think you can do is include the thank you note in the package, saying you hope they like their purchase and to contact you if there are any problems; you can also include a discount code for their next order, but you can't specifically say they'll get a discount for leaving positive feedback. Have a look at this link: www.etsy.com/legal/policy/extortion/239966959186 Great video otherwise. Totally agree about giving customers the wow factor with their order. I've left 10 positive reviews in the past week, split between two sellers. One in particular packaged her items beautifully - each piece was wrapped in tissue paper then put into its own organza bag, and she used a sturdy box to send them so they arrived undamaged; they also arrived quickly which was a bonus, and she sent me a little free gift which was a nice surprise. The other seller was very helpful when I had a query, and when the items arrived they were great quality and so beautifully made. I placed second orders with both sellers the same day I received my first lot, and I actually set a reminder on my phone to leave feedback. In contrast, I ordered a couple of handmade fabric purses from a new seller and the package wasn't good - they were wrapped in an envelope with loads of sellotape all crunched up around the corners, and when I opened it the contrast stitching they'd used was very wonky; the fabric was also creased so I'll need to iron before I gift them to the recipients. As it was a new shop I didn't leave official feedback but I did contact them to highlight the problems, as future sales like that will probably result in negative feedback.

I've been on Etsy for 20 months with 86,000 sales and ranked 180th globally in sales. I would agree with much of this video. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. There's no magic formula. Find your audience and grow over time. Just be better than other sellers... better pictures, better descriptions, SEO, and kill it with customer service. That's the recipe.

@@GachaGrill1 Honestly, this is something you have to figure out on your own, but I will say that it is not difficult. Look at high volume sellers on Etsy and see if you can reverse engineer any of their processes. It might be something that you never would have guessed or something you have no interest in. That doesn't matter. Your in the business to make money, not to like your product. That's the biggest mistake I see people make on Etsy. Once you have a potential product or service, just act on it. Make a listing. It's that simple. Most Etsy shops started out small and don't require a ton of capital. I started mine with a $38 product order and just kept pumping profits back into the business. From there, just kick the snot out of your competition. Listings are your storefront, so you want every single element to be better than your competition. Go get it.

Good point on the packaging. Including something special in the package can help your reputation big time, and it can even help dealing with customer issues sometimes, like late shipping for example. I like include a little complimentary gift in my package along with a thank you note and a business card. You can tell how big of an impact it has when they leave a review talking about the whole experience.

Tasha I agree with you. I opened my shop in 2017 and I have never made as much as some of these individuals are making in such a short time and getting traffic to my website is impossible. If I recall correctly I made this video after my average daily sales jumped from 1/day to 3-5/day. The average sale is also more than $7.99. Soon after it jumped to 6-8 sales/day on average. I have more than 131 sales but maybe that’s what you’re seeing at the time of this video. I set my shop to vacation mode after that to move states & have a baby. Fair question!

Kristina Katelieva my shop has been on vacation mode since early July. I just opened it back up yesterday. What I teach is going from 0 sales to multiple sales per day in the beginning. My average sale is also more than $6.99. When I said replace a full time income, I meant a couple thousand per month. Moving forward I will not be making comments like this. Any ideas on how to niche down on something like photo jewelry…. Currently I’m focused on nature photos, but I offer a variety of items: necklaces, ornaments, magnets, bracelets, etc. So far, no one category is selling better, but the magnets are the easiest and less expensive to make….If I just decided to try only selling magnets, would that be niching down? It will always be nature jewelry… I could zero in on flowers, butterflies, and things you’d find in a garden (like a feral cat…. Lol). Need ideas here….

You cannot offer an incentive for customers to leave reviews. That is against Etsy's TOU. You can ask them to leave a review, but you can't ask them to leave a specific type of review (such as a positive one or ask them to say certain things). You're better off setting up coupon codes that Etsy automatically sends out to buyers after a sale. Yes one mistake was including the word “positive” review in my explanation, I would never ask a customer to only leave a positive review. I’m not going against Etsy’s guidelines & have read the seller handbook thoroughly

@@growhandmade2477 In the handbook article I linked above where it talks about asking for a review, it states - "Just remember to keep it quick, simple, and free of any promotional speak (spam)." Also, according to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), it's illegal.

@@traciecunningham3382 hi there! I took a quick look at your shop and your hats are very nice! A few things I will say is it is a very new shop and it will just take time to make sales. Etsy needs time to pick you up in the algorithm. The more listings you can upload, the better because then shoppers can find you easier. I noticed you are not using your whole title space. It's very important to use up your title space and tags because this will help customers find you. Also your description does not include much. Take a look at what your successful competitors are doing and take inspiration from that. Hope that helps! :)

Thanks for the great insights, just one consideration... from what I know, Etsy is quite adamant in not allowing sellers to ask or incentivize positive reviews in any way. What they allow though, is asking for reviews or feedback *in a neutral way*. I suggest correcting that in the video so people don't make that mistake and cost them some sort of strike by Etsy.

Tags! For SEO purposes. Etsy doesn’t use your description to rank you in search. Your description is more for increasing your conversion rate. still important, but not directly for SEO. Other search engines can pick up keywords from your description, but Etsy doesn’t.

yes targeting a small group of buyers is the key! If your target audience is not unique then you have not done enough research. In order to be successful on Etsy you need to stand out from the massive crowd. Its cheaper to target repeat customers than to "purchase or convince new customers" . great advice
