The mind is a weird thing. It will do things to protect the body from trauma. It can even split a person into different people all capable of their own thoughts, opinions and action, even keeping it a secret from the other personalities.

David Bowie's family had a history of schizophrenia/personality disorders and he said he was terrified it would happen to him as a child, but then he discovered he could just 'create a character' for a period of time, embrace and explore that identity artistically, and then just move to the next curiosity when he'd exhausted its potential. There are many varieties of psychological and medical conditions that have aspects of these experiences, but if your nervous system is designed that way, i feel like working 'with it' and learning to negotiate those cycles is far more practical than drugging yourself to be something else and imagining it will change. It's a type of self-control and self-awareness that can be learned--just one more thing Bowie was a master of.

My birth mother was schizophrenic, and as a kid i would sneak to the adult section of the library and read books on mental disorders because it seemed unavoidable that it would happen to me. I believe Bowie experienced those types of feelings, but he devised his own method for managing the symptoms--and i'd say it worked out well for him. :)

I'm very rational and always looked upon D.I.D. as a questionable diagnosis. That was until I taught a high school kid who I swear would change appearance (brighter green eyes, slightly pointed ears, somehow smaller. He would do very childish things, such as pushing someone's books off the desk, throwing a paper wad, pinching someone, etc. During these phases, he was impish and silent. When I wrote him a detention, he appeared dumbfounded and had NO idea what it was about. I've been teaching for over 30 years, seen every medical/psychological/psychiatric symptom you can imagine, angry, damaged kids, selective mutism, absence and clonic-tonic seizures, the gamut. But if this kid was acting, he needs an Academy Award. I still get chills thinking about it.

I have it and have a hard time believing the whole named personalities and having no memory of what they do. In my case I was raped by a grandfather, but growing up I knew there was something that happened and caused me to not want to be alone with him but I had no memory of it until I was 28, I was in therapy and my therapist wanted to try meditation. First time I did it a completely different part of my personality came out, but it was like it merged with my main one. And what I thought was my only one. All those memories came with it, and when I would think back to these instances I could remember them in every detail, but it was like I was watching it from another person's point of view and not so much that it happened to me. Before that I was so full of anger and hatred, and would lose my temper easily. Afterwards, in the 12 years since I've been calm. No matter how bad life has gotten, or situations occur where I should be angry and just can't get that way. And even looking back at myself before that, it was the same as the rapes. Like I was viewing my life as a bystander and not as it being my life. My therapist says (yes still in therapy) that the calm personality is me, the main one and the angry personality was the one that was in charge ever since the first rape. It's still pretty insane to me how the human brain works

@zeafreethinker
@zeafreethinker Месяц назад
A mind retreating IS dissociation. DID is a severe form of it. So is PTSD. DID is like the brain putting those memories in a separate container. The only way those containers open is when something triggers the memory: emotion, smell, sound, words, etc.

Hello, you're the "host body" for that personality you can go to prison with it. I have DID and cptsd. I'm 30 and have been in therapy for 8 years. EMDR and therapy has made living with my conditions much more manageable. I'm happily married and live a fairly normal life. Art and gardening are a good outlets for me to relax and express hard emotions. We chose not to have kids due to our hereditary physical health and mental problems. My husband and mom know I have DID but I don't tell others since most people don't understand what it is and it's not relevant most times. I find it interesting how many people who have DID got misdiagnosed with BPD, Bipolar or schizophrenia. I didnt believe I had DID for years because the "alters" or w.e. you want to call them didn't have other names. It feels like I'm seeing things from someone elses point of view when I switch. But I'm never confused about what my name is or have a different name.

Why is this on your Paranormally Listed channel? DID is a real disorder, not paranormal…I have a Dissociative Disorder and it’s not any kind of possession…it’s a result of trauma in childhood that causes the brain to “wall off” that memory so it doesn’t completely break the child…
@leileyaravencroft
@leileyaravencroft Месяц назад
I think you’re misunderstanding “paranormal”. It doesn’t necessarily have to do with ghosts, poltergeists, or demons. That’s just what most people associate it with but really it’s something outside of the norm. Paranormal means alongside of, beside, near, resembling, beyond, apart from, and abnormal. Things outside of something that is viewed as “outside the norm”. It’s not a dig against DID itself. There are quite a few mental illnesses and quite frankly diseases that would fall under paranormal such as (I will be listing what they are known for) Alien Hand Syndrome, which is a real phenomenon that scientists are still unsure exactly why it happens, a person can be fine one day, wake up in the morning and one of their hands seemingly takes on a life of its own. Progeria, a disease that affects only children. It causes the body to rapidly age. A child will lose their hair, teeth, motor skills, etc. However the hair falling out occurs in 99.9% of the afflicated, however there was one child who never lost her hair which further baffled scientists and doctors. There is even one case which name escapes me, though if memory serves there is only one live case, of a child that *never* grew up. Her body stopped aging at approximately 2. She cannot speak, cannot see, she is able to make hand movements but other than that… no scientist knows what has. They label it as a form of dwarfism for simplicity sake but it isn’t. The only thing that they have been able to determine is that her body just stopped aging. The last doc I saw about her, she was 18. In the body of a 2 year old. I think that’s why this video is listed under “paranormal” because this is such a rare illness
