Alyssa tells you things other PTs never do. I have been sleeping really well in the last week and I've experienced much less arthritis pain. I never would have connected those dots. I'm also getting ready for a trip and want to drop 5 pounds so I've been eating more fruits & veg, bingo, another connection. I'm so happy I found her channel and have recommended it to others. I've been doing hip warmups, stregthening, using a heating pad which have all given me a significant reduction in pain and a better quality of life. The best content!!!
Alyssa you are superb, I recently saw your videos for knee arthritis and now I keep watching your videos as soon as it comes and follow your incredible instructions, you are just too good, you answer all the questions that come to mind and we are unable to ask doctors, god bless you in your mission, thank you for being an angel ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The exercises that this girl is showing is beneficial to everyone I have done a lot of exercise s over the the years and you definise between old and young the exercises that I was told to do would have
I have been doing exercises for over Forty years in so called health centers etc and believe me the exercises that this girl is teaching would be beneficial to everyone but unfortunately people like you put an age thing onto them and make it seem that they are only beneficial to elderly people
I just stood in my kitchen while watching this video and did several back and forward walking steps, running my hand along the counter as I stepped. This way, I can feel secure stepping back and don't have to crank my neck or upper body around to see where I am going. This one stretch of counter is a good 10 feet long, so it makes for a nice little back and forth, short walk. Then, I go sideways across the kitchen from one side to the other to get in the sideways movement. It works easily for me! Sleep is a struggle for me, though. I have trouble falling asleep most nights before 1 or 2 am. I take 2 gabapentins for restless legs and have just today purchased some melatonin again. I have taken it before, and it helped. The gaba makes me sleepy after about a 2 hour window from when I take it, but even if I take it by 7 pm, I still may be awake at 2. I only do chicory root coffee in the evening if I do any at all. This will take some working on. The fruits and veggies aren't an issue, but I will start double checking myself at night. I found that years ago, prior to the double hip replacements, that a microwave heated sock of dry whole kernel corn can make a heck of a difference. That's been a go-to for at least 15 years. In the summer, it's harder, but then I may add a small fan if the corn bag makes me sweat!😂
You are awesome. I’m a recently retired 63 yr, that has spondylitis and arthritis in most area of my body. I was once very active but the last 2 years have almost stopped all activities. :( Thanks for caring.
I feel the same way..retired and now lots of arthritis.. I have a bad back but recently fell and think I tore a meniscus but doc said I had so much arthritis in my knee…I had walked three and half miles with a friend not that long ago. My husband had knee replacement and I had to take care of him because other knee bad too. I am going to try and stop sugar and keep moving.. Good luck to u. ❤❤❤
Alyssa, is aquarobics worth the level of effort it requires? Am I better off doing a weights class, walking or physiocise? I have knee arthritis. I very much enjoy your videos. I have learnt a lot. Thank you.
My issue is with food… I have been diagnosed with barrets esophagus so no fruit other than bananas and melons, no cruciferous, both which I ate a lot of. Sigh am at a loss of what to eat, know some triggers but man told my gp feel like am eating so much unhealthier than before
I will start using your tips Such as eating more vegetables and sleeping doing variety of starches I really want to cure this sciatica pain it’s so bad I appreciate you a lot love watching your videos very interesting and inspiring
Why does pain relief take so long? I've been going to therapy and consistently doing my strengthening 3-4 times a week and I only feel that I've made about a 30% improvement within the span of a year. It gets frustrating :(
This could depend on a few things. For example, are the exercises continuing to feel challenging and strengthen the appropriate areas? Other things can play a role in the degree of pain relief such as food, stress, sleep quality, how long you’ve had pain for, history of injury, etc.
I am learning so much from you. I wish I could afford your whole program. Your thought on consistency and believing that it will make a difference is really changing my mindset. Thank you.
This is all so very important, being a fit 58, I use resistance bands as part of my life for hips shoulders and glutes. The later, sat on a plane waiting in a queue. No excuses ...lol
Thank You Doc...very helpful advise...I am diagnosed with OA alrdy bone to bone in the right knee..it can be very painful considering surgery...thank you so much for your channels
Dr John Bergman tells us that OA isn’t a disease, it’s not degenerative - it’s a problem with mal-adaption after an injury/injuries causing imbalances. What are your thoughts on this?
I would agree just with that snippet of information. I haven't listened to any of his talks. There has been a lot of research showing that severity of mechanical changes to the joint don't correspond with severity of pain experienced so there are other factors at play.
Hi Alyssa, I have Lupus and deal with a lot of joint pain. I'm so excited to try the different lower body exercises to get pain relief. I would love to see some shoulder, arm and neck exercises. My pain and stiffness is wide spread over all my joints. I appreciate any advise that you can give me. Thank you.
Fruits and vegetables are very inflammatory for me. I went ketovore and l feel so much better. I found out that the fruit berry's and many keto veggies made me swell and hurt. Stopped all those went cornnivore for 60 days and felt wonderful added in a few veggies one at a time each week found out that most of them made me swell in my joints.
Thank you Alyssa. I listen to you all the time. I find your podcasts very helpful and your enthusiasm motivational. I am an osteoarthritus sufferer and my hip pain is getting worse no matter what I do. Lately I have been reading about a Dr Sarno and the mind having a powerful effect on chronic pain. Could you consider a podcast about this?
I started watching you a few weeks ago after seeing you on El Paso Manual Physical Therapy. I have learned so much and done some exercises I never imagined I could as a senior with osteoarthritis in left jnee from an injury decades ago. I am going to respectfully suggest you try something different w your hair. Especially with this camera angle and your dark shirt, flyaways are a bit distracting. Don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I think even just pulling your hair back or up or barrettes or headband would be a start to a more professional look. You have so much to share and I do think that would help.
Thank you for your videos! I was told that the dry heat from Heating pads in not good for arthritis but adding some moisture to the pad is helpful…. Any feedback on this? Thx 🎉
“Sixteen studies (15 articles) included in this systematic review reported on healthy individuals and subjects who were overweight or obese and who had metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. The consumption of milk or dairy products did not show a proinflammatory effect in healthy subjects or individuals with metabolic abnormalities.” PMID: 31089732
If you have any other research proving inflammation in connection with dairy I’d love to read it. Some can be more sensitive to dairy and/or have increased pain while others do not. It is not inflammatory for everyone from all the research I’ve looked at.
I would get cleared by a physical therapist near you. It's very hard to say without seeing how your neck and spine move and where your pain/instability is
I wish I had found this channel 25 years ago. I’ve been a night owl my entire life and am constantly sleep deprived. Pain also keeps me from sleeping, as well as waking me up. I’m happy I found this channel and have been incorporating these and other suggestions.
Totally agree with people that she is a great communicator and a clear specialist in her field. I have a hip issue and following Dr.Alyssa regime, seeing improvement I have also noticed wearing flexible shoes outdoors, helps.
Only recently discovered your RU-vid videos and I'm finding them so helpful. I'm a retired 68 year old and there's been a big deterioration in my knee arthritis over the last year. I'm so grateful for your food lists and excercises! I've been on steroids for 2 years and have gained a lot of weight! I'm now almost steroid free and need to reduce my weight which I'm sure will help my mobility. Thank you for sharing your expertise. NgaleSue
I do not know how you see me and my comments. ..... Since I found you and your channel,, the videos do not show to me in chronological order. But, I search your channel to find more info. Thank you. The point in mind making this comment is that this video is like maybe a year old or something, and I just found you a few months ago. And you are reiterating everything I have found in the small movements, by intentional small movements is so right on. Just had to say that I hope the people watching realize the tiny bits that are so critical in regaining movement and minimizing pain.
