Here are 3 things to improve Pitching Mechanics of the Lead Leg
Ever wondered what the front leg should be doing in the pitching delivery? Well in this video I share with you what I believe is the front leg is for within the pitching mechanics. I like to teach lead leg pitching mechanics in 3 parts. One is the lift of the lead leg, two is "breaking the hips", and three is leaving the lead leg down and back behind the body as you start down the pitcher's mound. Now, this type of pitching mechanics should not be confused with up, down, and out pitching. I do not want you to come to a balance point, then drop your leg, and go straight to your target. Instead I want more of a load when you lift that front leg and to lead with your butt down the pitcher's mound. This will let you leverage your linear energy and also give you tons more rotational energy. The lead leg also works as a counter balance to your upper body in the pitching delivery. Guys who can sit back on the back leg a little more tend to have the lead leg out a little more to act as a counter balance. This again also for more linear and rotational energy and the pitcher gets the best of both worlds. That's why I think the lead leg is so important in the pitching delivery.
