I have been using the GH5 for 2 years as our only camera for our cocktail videos. Yesterday I ordered the GH6 as Camera A and the GH5 will be Camera B. Thanks for this video.

For those wondering how long it will take before you receive your free CFExpress card: I bought the GH6 and I contacted Panasonic and they said it will take like 4 weeks. So if you don't own one of these cards already you might not to able to use the camera's full potential for a while (Apple ProRes etc.). Just for those wondering! Of course it might also depend on which country you live in. Great video Caleb!
@@leeiovino4765 For 5.7K it does, that’s 17.3M pixels. But 3840x2160 is 8.2M pixels which is less then half. Full HD is 2.2M pixels. I’m sure it won’t correspond 100% but can we assume 4K Apple ProRes HQ will be like 0.8GB and normal ProRes will be like 0.5GB. This means Full HD Apple ProRes will be like 0.2GB which is pretty much nothing. This makes the file size very usable. I’m not sure if this makes sense but if it is like this I’m happy with the sizes. 4K is enough for me. I just hope they will release the firmware update as soon as possible. 👌🏼
Your a luck fella with this GH6, doing a good job explaining this awesome camera and it’s potential. I didn’t notice any distractions from the pulsating and your candles in the background. The few clips I have recorded so far just looks.. natural and good! Looking forward to get to know the different ways of using this camera. The Sirui 1,33 anamorphics gives a pleasing image without breaking the bank. Keep up the videos, Caleb!
Great informative video. As for me, I'll be sticking with my GH5 a while longer. The cost to upgrade to the GH6, including a cage, cfast cards & reader, and a high performance computer just isn't practical at this moment. Especially since I'm mainly a hobbyist filmmaker. But perhaps one day, just not today.
AF looked great, nice job explaining the open gate visually. I thought I had talked myself out of the GH6 and into a GH5S for the dual native ISO but now you’re bringing me back lol. I think for my current projects-tripod talking head videos for clients-gh5s still makes a lot of sense. It would be cool to see gh5s dual native ISO vs gh6 dr boost video.
@@7thStoneMedia I’m in no way defending Lumix AF lol, but I’d take 3 quick pulses during hand movements in a 7 minute video over that Sony focus breathing any day (focus breathing that youtubers could eliminate digitally with Sony cameras but don’t).
I don’t even shoot video, but still found this very interesting. The “open gate” video that can be edited into different formats seems like a brilliant feature. I just hope we see successors to the G9 and GX9 with the latest sensor/processor tech.
Dope review!! I want a GH6, but honestly the only thing holding me back is they removed the bottom pins so no more extended battery grip unfortunately…. I’ll be sticking with my GH5S for now lol 😂
Hi own the GH5s too...and GH4,5 ,BMPCC4K, and because of Image quality and price I went for a BMPCC6K used...less than half of thé price of GH6... Somehow when I shoot Multicam ans After colorgrade...Black Magic footage Look so much better. (I shoot mostly multicam classical concert ok tripode...so No Handheld) I manage to match the pana and BM good but still even If I use the same Lens. Well GH5s IS close to BMPCC4K but still I have better result Grafing braw vs all i...422 10 bit. Did Not try GH5s with black Magic assist 12 G...which can record braw as well... I will probably get thé GH6 when SSD recording,braw and other propres favor will be unlocked...for me an used BMPCC4K Has better Price value nowdays...when the.features will go out probably will buy one...because of thé GH6 Ibis which will probably replace a Gimbal...

I see it too. I’m no expert, but it might has to do with the color correction in post. Also he did mention that he’s using an ND filter. It could be a combination of that.
@@CalebHoover Well i did some testing with my GH5S (low iso 4K50 ProRes on Atomos Ninja V) on a somewhat similar grey background and found it also to be a bit noisy. Don't think i would use dynamic boost on the GH6 in this situation.
How is the low light compared to the GH5? I'm just about to grab a S5 to get better low light performance than my GH5 but if the GH6 can get me a few more stops, I think I'd be good with that. On my GH5 I find anything over iso800 is getting noisy.
yeah on gh5 i never go above 1600 iso. dynamic boost mode is supposed to give a good hybrid image but i’m starting to wonder if it’s better than a dual native iso. gonna do some lowlight shooting soon
Good Stuff Caleb, I searched and searched for the CF approved list and could not find it. So great you had the link. it Just did not come up in my google search. I had a long conversation with a tech at BH photo. I was suspect about the 179 dollar Angelbird 512GB AV PRO CFexpress 2.0 Type B SE Memory Card. Most cards are almost double or more. He said the the other cards were ovekill and this card will be fine as it's write speed is 850 and it's plenty since the GH6 only needs 800. I bought it but have not used it yet. Do you know the required specs. Do you see anything wrong with this card. I don't want to be sorry. Please let me know what you think. Looking so forward to more GH6 videos. Just got mine last week.
#beardgangheaux I'm listening to you mane I like your commentary voice. As for the camera I'm considering going mirrorless but on a 1500 budget but I'll save up more if it's a good choice. I shoot short film and dj vlogs nightclub recaps.
Right now the best mirrorless buy is the Lumix G9 for under $1000 new. You can get a used one in excellent condition for $700-800 from MBP (I bought mine from them). No regrets! And, you can explore all the camera functions, settings, and features as a preview to the GH6 or the much anticipated update of the G9 that would include the best features of the GH6. The G9 is a power house camera for photographers who want to explore video!
that g9 is a great option but if you’re in nightclubs and in dark settings - a S5 might be good or hate to say it but maybe a sony 🤫 better options for lowlight possibly
Hey Caleb, bevor the gh6 was launched I saw you struggling about lumix and the day it was announced you said you weren’t blown away about the specs. So from that time on the fanboy returned? I’m still struggling. I mean Sony color and stabilization suck, overheating of canon sucks, fujifilm 8Bit sucks. Also I‘m crying because all the mft lenses I invested in.
i still think for video only and unless you want to move fully to a cinema camera, video in lumix is hard to beat. after using the gh6 for a couple weeks there are some things i really like. but yeah 😂 have to be honest, i’m still on the fence.
