Hey hey hey I am free as well. I love this. I moved into my tiny home 3 years ago. I placed it on my property and I love love love it. I can travel, I can grow my own food, I can feed the birds and get out of my bed when I finish sleeping. I want to buy more land and give others the opportunity to do the same. I’m working on it.
Where are you both located ? How much should the ground space be and what is included in it? I looked at a tiny house and the ground space was $1595 per month. The asking price for the property is $75 k reduced from $130k Your thoughts please.
Hi Jewel, I absolutely love the tiny house concept...just finished completing a builder bootcamp construction class partnering with the tiny house project here...Do you need any assistance with building, would to work as an apprentice
As a white liberal, I find it absolutely disgusting that racism is still an issue in America. And I got a lot of great information from this video. Y’all are beautiful, wonderful, amazing women and really appreciate you. Thank you. 💖
Hi ladies, I’ve lived in my fifth wheel for seven years and I love it. It’s one bedroom and I have all the amenities of a home. it’s paid for and so is my car so I have the ability to move around and go where I want to go take myself out to eat in have dates with myself. It’s fun and liberating I could not go back to a home in a subdivision with a large mortgage or an apartment I will continue to live like this as long as I can. I love it. My name is Johnnie and I am single and I also have the freedom to work and travel. What a blessing.
Freedom for sure!! I found Ms Jewel 9 yrs ago and I 2 stepped out on faith here in Murrieta, CA I am 45 mins from San Diego, and/or Palm Springs I asked God to help me find a home which he did and I paid $5,000 cash for it with lot fee of $540. It’s a beautiful vintage manufacture home build in the 60’s the senior park I live in is absolutely beautiful. I put $20,000 into her and i truly could not be happier. I am sure she will last another 60 years. I am retired Navy and I go as I please, I don’t worry about my beautiful home because my neighbors we all look out for one another. Thank Ms Jewel for lighting that fire underneath my soul, 9 yrs ago, I am truly grateful am so blessed!😮
Aight then!! Maybe she’s inspired you, but you have really inspired me. I’m also retired Navy and I have a big azz house that I’m really tired of, however, get this. After I was retired for about a year I got pregnant 🤭. What a shock!! Well, I lost the baby, but got pregnant again right after that. I have a 29 year old son, who is now my anchor because he doesn’t want to move. I’ve told him I’m not going to spend the rest of my retirement/golden years taking care of him and this house. As long as I can be somewhere that I can see nature, feed my birds, and be able to grow food I think I could tolerate living in a smaller home. As everyone knows if you have a house, most of the time, you’ve got too much stuff and I’m over it now. You have inspired me to start earnestly looking to downsize but NOT to any apartments or attached housing. Tiny homes seem perfect!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the former Ms. Gypsy Soul. Used to follow her from when she was featured on TLC, I think, mapping her process of designing her house. SO inspirational!!
I'm 56 , newly divorced, grown son and yes I Am going to be a nomad for a while because I gave up my house for a nice payout and I just don't want to pay this high rent for something not mine. I love the idea of freedom, thank you for sharing ❤
Ummm excuse me, Sisters. Excuse me... i apologize. I understand that we are talking about tiny homes, but the way my mind is set up.... MY WORD!! YOU LADIES ARE ROCKING THE HAIR STYLES! THE SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL! Just FLAWLESS GORGEOUSNESS!! @Stephanie Perry you ladies give me great pride in who I am and who I come from. Looking at you ladies, ain't NOBODY gon sit there and tell me that God is not an artist!! Y'all ate beautiful, man
Yup! Shut up your mouth! 🤣🤣🤣 I thought the same! Dang thing. At first! I was like OK! miss girl Lauren. 😂 But she really! does look like she could be one of miss Lauren people though. I have seen her on other news interviews. All I can say is I’ve already made up my mind that I too! Am gonna do it.🎉😉👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
YES!!! I remember yeaaaars ago when I saw her tiny home. STUNNING! I was so frustrated for her when "them folks" were acting up on her. So glad she is still going - still a wealth of information and light!
I’ve been a tiny house aficionado since day one. Ms. Jewell was the first person with a tiny house that looked like me. Thank you Ms. Jewell, representation matters
Yes. I think it’s about time we reimagine and redefine our measures of success. Too many of us need to get free from the perceptions of others and do away with the respectability politics of race and success that actually keep the community bound instead of setting it free. Creative thought, even in the areas of housing and wealth building are tools for liberation. Stop worrying about what other people think. Stop sizing yourself up with your friends, soros, family or neighbors. We must think differently, iterate and understand the methods that will enhance our lives for the better, despite the opinions, systems and structures of others.
I need to check out Jewel's work. I want to eventually build my own tiny home. My paid-off campervan/micro RV is my tiny home for now while I am in between jobs. Gives me location freedom and allows me the time to consider my next move without stress. Because of the size, I can literally drive it into a 10x20 storage unit, disconnect the battery and travel (abroad) for extended periods at any time.
Did you buy that size mini/van camper with the storage unit in mind? I have been wondering where I can park my van (not purchased yet) when out of the country, never thought of a storage unit!
@@tourguide1003 I actually bought the minivan (Dodge Grand Caravan) 6 years ago because I wanted a daily driver with good gas mileage that could be used as a camper on weekends. I love that the seats fold into the floor to create a really big cargo space in the back to camp in. I have a no-build, so I can take the bed, cabinets, fridge, etc. out and put into another DGC if & when it dies. Can also take the camping gear out and pull the seats out if I want to carry passengers. Really versatile vehicle:)
I'm in the DFW area and visited a community called Lake Dallas Tiny Home Community. I think it is the first community in the US built from the ground up specifically for tiny homes - not converted from an RV or mobile home park. There has also been a lot of progress in the state of Washington. There are 4 state laws now on the books that make it difficult for cities and counties to disallow tiny homes on private property. I'm really sorry I missed this livestream and will head to Jewel's sites!
I am watching the replay. It truly lifted my spirits today. I love Ms. Jewel and Ms. Stephanie. You are really keeping black women informed about our options.
Something else to think about when purchasing land...many of these towns/cities still abide by the housing convenants....There was a black couple I was following on you tube (I forgot their name) living tiny who bought a significant amount of land attempting to create a tiny community and was shot down bc of those old policies put in place that many still honor.
Very late seeing your video. Watching now tonight on the houseboat under the stars. We prefer living on the water 💦😂😂. No kids on board 😂🎉🎉. Bright days and dark nights.......... from the lakes of the Ozarks USA drinking fresh spring water, just the 2 of us
Welcome over here name sake Jewel. Jewel Bijou, tiny house fan before I got and renovated my 1976 Airstream. ARE YOU STILL IN Charlotte. I first followed you when I was living in Baltimore. Best smartest WOMEN THANKS LADIES! on the screen right now!
Can’t convince my husband fullu. He still wants the “american dream” style home. I said fine south africa, you can stay in your large house as long as my tiny home is built on the land surrounded by a garden.
10:43 I STUBBLED UPON YOU A FEW YEARS AGO, AND HAD THE AMAZING PRIVILEGE TO SEE YOUR MIND-BLOWING TINY HOUSE!!!... OH MY GOODNESS!!! I WAS BLOWN AWAY AND FOUND MYSELF WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I TOLD MY FRIENDS ABOUT IT AND I WONDERED, AND STILL WONDER, HOW I WILL EVER GET TO HAVE A HOME LIKE THAT....I STILL LONG TO HAVE THAT TO BE A REALITY FOR ME....(I'D LOVE TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY TERRITORY) I EVENTUALLY LOST TRACK OF YOU, BUT JUST NOW STUBBLED UPON THIS POST, AND I AM SOOO HOPEFUL AND EXCITED... I'LL NEVER FORGET THE GORGEOUS DECOR... OH MY GOODNESS... I PRAY THAT I CAN SOME DAY MEET YOU AND LEARN FROM YOU AS WELL... THAT IS MY PRAYER...🙏🙏 GOD BLESS YOU... 💖
I'm so happy to have happened across this today ❤ it's my dream to obtain a tiny house. I'd like to purchase land and place my tiny on it😊 My family is on the fence but I'm 100% . Thank God for both you beautiful forward thinking women! Seeing this is a definite confirmation!! I love both of your missions ❤
So the only reason people worry about others building their on communities is because they're projecting... Isis commune and White Militias are really the same thing, using community in ways that are disempowering to others... so they're scared we would do the same, but we won't... and never have. Black women have built the world... and still do, without trying to devalue and disempower others. Thanks so much for this conversation Stephanie and Jewel.
Not sure why the "does she have a job" is tickling me sooooo much! Love this, ladies. I hope that one day they'll say the same about me: "Does she have a job!?" Teehee.
Love everthing about this conversation. Starting my research journey to design a family compound. I have a friend that has a compund with friends and it is an amazing place to live and the support of the intentional community is priceless.
New follower here. Delaware in the house… hi SP. Excited to hear about Cooperative Communities. Just did my 1st house/pet sit and plan to “bop around” internationally and leave my RV behind to rent out. As I learn about other RV rental or land share platforms I’m not so sure that I’m included when “our community“ statements are made. Delighted & relieved by the thought of a fubu soft landing. (For us by us) Cheers & Happy bopping
Excellent episode! I remember reading about Jewel’s Tiny Home in an Essence magazine article. Lovely to see her featured today! I’ve subscribed to her RU-vid and Patreon channels today!🥰 Special thanks to Stephanie Perry for always providing excellent content!
Heyyyyy. I’ve been on the community, travel, and living simply journey for almost seven years. It is a journey indeed. Letting go of the old habits, places and things that just don’t serve me anymore has been liberating. So glad this talk showed up on my timeline and I took time to listen. Thanks for sharing ladies. ❤
Hey Stephanie...just another Black Excellence idea/ American Dream thing....after working so hard for years I just want a beautiful, easy to take care of space, and I have indeed been blessed.
Loved this! I have been a fan of hers since HGTV. I am planning to purchase a tiny home when I retire. I have some family property in a city that I don't REALLY want to live in but I'm strongly considering using that for my tiny home. Thank you for this interview!! ❤❤❤
Good morning Jewel, Stephanie and friends watching this as a replay. This is outstanding as I am a huge supporter of tiny homes movement. Outstanding interview with Jewel. Thank you for the resources and websites offered on this site. ❤❤❤
The guest is quite beautiful, intelligent, and quite thorough. I love her unrehearsed professional responses and the honesty that she presents. Coincidentally, we share several like organizational skills and preferences. God bless her consultation business and success. I look forward to meeting her, somehow, regarding my vision to expound upon my divine calling.
Are there photos/videos of her actually building the house? I see so many videos of the final product, but not a non-instructional visual journal of the different phases of the actual construction. After watching many videos and reading books, I am nearly finished with the tiny house on wheels. It is only 8.5'x22' and it is not fancy but I am proud that I built it with these two hands. I am building it on our property in Florida but will move it to Alabama. We do have regular houses, but the tiny house is a therapeutic journey of discovery and self-expression. I wish I could post post photos. It has been challenging, but I would not trade the experience.
