As always Terry, great advice and showing great leadership qualities in business. It is far too easy to listen to the "nay sayers" and never have the courage to achieve the achievable. I firmly believe we should only take advice from people who are where we want to be in life. For far too long, I have listened to people who consider their approach as pragmatic. However, in hindsight, I can see now that it was just taking the easiest road possible to them and avoided taking any positive actions to improve their professional abilities.

Communication is not about the what I have to say, it’s about the what you need to hear. So true Terry and not many practice this in real life.

Always blame the weather 😂🤣 LOL no, seriously, it just brings the creativity come out on what you have to do to get around it ..... 😁 Well said - it's funny though, people actually look for humans to work with, I think that we forget that sometimes - be human, be nice, be kind and put in damned strong boundaries! 🙃

Three essential attributes if you want to become a successful lawyer. Honesty, Loyalty and Hard work. In that order.

What about getting clients 🤔

@@terrygorry Any potential lawyer who doesn't accept any one or more of my three principles doesn't deserve any clients. I don't want to lock horns with you Terry. I enjoy your posts so don't take offence if I disagree with you from time to time.

@@terrygorry Do those three attributes not guarantee a flow of clients ?

@@johnguest1919 No problem and no offence. But you could have those qualities in spades and be sitting in your office waiting for the phone to ring 👍 You can have those qualities, and I see them as a sine qua non, but if nobody knows how to find you or that you exist or how to engage you, then you have a problem.

😂😂😂 you’d want to lose the honesty anyway!!! lawyers are hired guns and they’re there to take out the opposition by whatever means possible and necessary on behalf of their clients … mercenaries masquerading as honest brokers of law .. I’ve seen them in action stooping to every possible trick in the book, outrageous behaviour’s …syllogistic reasoning -the three card trick of conmen except it’s done with words( like you’d have see outside a GAA match in Newbridge in the 80’s 😂)is a favourite tactic -it’s right out of the ladybird book of how to be a good lawyer. The hubris of the so called heavy hitters in the big law firms is incredible.. all based on the assumption the ordinary person can’t stand up to them or can’t see what their doing.

It's so simple, yet many of us are not taught this at home or at school. I wasn't taught anything, except to be afraid. I'd also add the importance of charm. Not many young people have charm. You can be charming without being false, the two together make for one big ugly dungshow, but charm opens doors. Someone with more degrees than a circle, who sits on the belligerence of his PHD is not as employable as a young person with attitude, ambition and charm.

I’d wish them all the best but it’s a tough gig, especially at the start. I think I’d have a plan B thought through in advance 🤔

Aim to be pleasant to your customers and remember times are changing, not everyone wants to sit at the bar knocking back Guinness. Provide food and good quality coffee as well. Utilities are expensive, smiles are free, so be free and easy with your courtesy and smiles.
