Same for typical Polish 2c hair that just floats around your face with mind of it's own:) But it's fun to watch people who can control it. Maybe it's a superpower.
From what I remember (I’m 79) my mother used a ‘full head’ hair band, so she could do the rolls high on the sides and used the part visible over the top of her head to anchor her waves. (Good Heavens, I’m walking history!)
My mom wore her hair that way. She used a lot of aerosol hair spray, aquanet. I believe she was personally responsible for a sizable hole in the ozone.
ld have used a rat. that is a roll of mohair or human hair hidden in a wire and and mesh not soft thing. they came for buns, roll sets, and you will find as and french roll. If you look at old dresser sets, you will find a china a rat some day. with a lid that has a hole in the middle. that is for hair combing to be used
@@patmanchester8045 My mother would never have tolerated anything called a rat. Besides, my mother was a thoroughly modern girl of the 1940's. She wore her hair in the style she adopted as a girl until her death in 1998.
I was watching this when my daughter woke up from her nap. She sat in my lap to watch with me and she says, “I like her voice. Wow! She’s so pretty!” And now she’s trying to wrap her hair around her fingers 😂 she’s 3.
Teach them young!!! When i worked at a daycare the little girls would watch hair tutorials with me too (shhhh don't tell, we would often play "beauty shop" after and the girls would try to do the styles on our big barbie heads)
Exactly... this is why as a girl with curls all in the 3 range I never really try vintage hair styles, lol. It's ironic that most vintage hairstyles require straight hair to be curled, but don't look right with natural curls, which means if you have naturally textured hair you gotta go the extra mile of blowing it out THEN curling it THEN styling it. It's kind of depressing
Would love to see some 30s content, I feel like the 20s gets so much attention since it's the jazz age and the 40s also does because of WWII and the swing era. But ppl don't really get the 30s... for example how did the style transition from no waist to small waist. The hairstyles too!
@A C it was really wild because it wasn’t the Weimar Republic anymore. Weimar Republic was mostly just the 20s, and for a while (before the Wall Street crash, 1929) it was actually pretty chill. But then the depression happened, and hitler used that, so the 30s was just straight up hitler. (So technically the Weimar Republic ended in 1933. Shit went down that year.) lol sorry if this was annoying or you knew this already, I just had to
@@eleanor_disintegrated1141 Oh, true, it's coming back to me now. It was definitely still a wild time, just for different reasons I guess. As much as the depression is a really difficult and sad era, I find it interesting the resourcefulness and creativity that was incorporated into fashion.
A C absolutely, yeah. Must have been horrible, but it’s really interesting how people reacted to it. I know a lot about hitler’s rise to power since I have to study it for school - however, I don’t know much about the fashions. Would love to see karolina do a video about it
I like how you despite being lazy still menage to make your hair look amazing while i just wake up and go "meh straight flat hair can do it's suits my style of being a failure"
The back of the neck is called the nape! x) the eternal struggle of the bilingual. I feel you! (I am French and English speaking) Though my English native friends tell me they also struggle with words... So i guess it's just the universal struggle of language. Great video:)
Hey! 👋🏻 half English, half French too over here 😊 (But I'm married to a Scotsman so I guess there are 3 languages in our household, and also my accent gets 'corrected' even when it's actually correct 🤔)
I always laugh when she makes fun of her own English. It’s one trillion times better than our Polish - excepting the viewers who are Polish, of course.
5:38 - exactly the hair my Gran had in pictures from the 40’s. Same pose, smile, everything. Thanks for the flashback. Beautiful & simple-ish options to the boring pony. I used to twist my sides down like your last suggestion & clip it or put the bottom in a low pony. Loved the simple upscale look in just minutes. But def can’t lay down & keep it looking fabulous. Lol. Thank you.
One possible solution (which I tried on my lazy ass wrt skincare, esp. skinmasks) is not to wait till midnight with your evening toilletries. Do it at 8 or 9 p.m. and do some other things you do before sleep (like watching a series or doing things on the Internet) already in your evening attire. It still doesn't work for me all the time, but it works more often than it used to.
Wow...I haven't thought about anyone "setting" their hair in ages! My great-grandmother used to set her short hair in a ton of pin curls with Dippity Do on all of them. She'd wrap a do-rag around it & in the morning pull it all out & somehow floof it up & make it look good. I was always amazed how she did it & how so many Shirley Temple-like ringlets turned into a good looking hairdo.
This video (especially the early parts) reminded me of my grandmother, who was at her fashion peak in the 40s and early 50s. These vaguely resemble some of her earlier photos, but she eventually switched to permanents. (which I remembered oddly when you said "too lazy to set") This video resonates with me because through her, I always associated the 40s with those harsh permanents that not only had an awful scent (that could also seep into wallpaper, permanently affecting a room's atmosphere), but could actually result in *hair loss* if applied improperly. I was turned off from that decade's realities due to those factors. Seeing such elegant hairstyles done with no pre-prep or even chemicals is kind of literally a breath of fresh air.
@@FloralAndFire she admits right in the video tha she heatstyles it from time to time, thats not really as little as possible.Well, I mean unless you compare to peeps that actually iron daily and change hair color bi-weekly.
Real question, how to have a vintage hairstyle with real thin hair xDD Like I look at you and my hair is like.. 1/10 of your hair xD I mean its still interesting to watch tho

You can try back combing or hairpieces ☺️ You know, those flat ones that are attached by little clips - it needs some practice but can work wonders! And if not, there are always wigs - @neciashairstyling on Instagram is a vintage wig magician 🎩
Honestly I feel like doing vintage hairstyles is sometimes easier with a bit thinner hair... I've got thick hair that is impossible to backcomb and doesn't hold curls so I just can't get it to work )':
I have absolutely no interest in vintage fashion, hairdos or makeup but I’m thoroughly enjoying your videos😂 I’m a history grad though and because of that I appreciate that you oftentimes show what the working class women used to wear and what the historical context was for various styles of women’s clothing, the practical aspects of fashion and the everyday lives of the women who wore them. Great content!
I'm too lazy to do any of these hairstyles, so I'll just admire them. lol You're so pretty! :3 And these hairstyles are lovely. Vintage hairstyles are my favourite! They always look so elegant to me, especially 40's.
OMG this is perfect timing! I'm going to be an extra in a movie next week that takes place in the 40s and the hair department is encouraging us to try and make out own styles. Will definitely be trying these!
i wish the arthritis in my hands let me still do this. takes an hour just to set my hair stopping to let the fingers rest and the last quarter of it looks shoddy. yours looks great.
I do not wear vintage, I will not style my hair but still love that someone has motivation to do that and I always watch your vids - you are not lazy! ;) See ya in Krakow :P I am already 2y here and never bumped into you :(
Meme Mom: "Now this one is... going to require you to have something..." Me: NO MEME MOM I HAVE NO SPECIAL TO- Meme Mom: "...this width." *holds up the exact same lipstick as mine* Me: 😮
I remember watching my older cousin rolling her hair every single night - I did my time in brush rollers too. By the time I was in college hot rollers were a thing around 1970 (hallelujah!).
You have such beautiful hair! I just love the colour and the texture. The hairstyles look so elegant. I can't believe how many Bobby pins it takes! Hope you don't have to go through any metal detectors. ❤
thank you for this, I've always wanted to explore vintage styles but have never had success curling my hair, these seem like much simpler and easier vintage styles that i could experiment with. Also love the diy hair rat
Love videos like this, I'm currently pregnant and have a toddler so can only be assed wearing my rollers like once a week 😅 My go to is scarves and messy Gibson tucks 😂 I mean it looks more vintage than my natural straight hair 🤮😂
Great video...and timely as well because I am needing to use a 40s hairstyle for an event coming up! My hair is slightly shorter than yours, but I think with practice I will be able to achieve one of these looks. Thanks so much!
Nikki AN I don’t want a collab just because they are both in to vintage fashion - I want Karolina and Jessica to have an awesome conversation about living vintage or being a woman RU-vidr or fast fashion or more tips on how to source vintage clothes. Besides, I don’t think Jessica is boring, and other people also want this collab! Different strokes for different folks.
There's a character Anthy Himemiya from the anime, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and I've always wondered how she did her hair. Now I know after watching this video. Thanks meme mom for sating my curiosity!
Teasing and hairspray just ruins the ends of my hair. It literally looks like 🌾 (just like our lovely Karolina over here, I can't remember the name of this thing).
Hello from literally 5 months later: omg the felt thing. I've been trying to find a diy hack that will actually work for me for bumper bangs without going to the store/waiting until May for a hair donut delivery. My mind is blown. You are now my queen.
YAY. Thank you thank you thank you. I was hoping for this. I honestly feel like the first style was the hairstyle I was always meant to have. I guess it will take practice. Also a hair rat/roll thing? Ok, Roger that. Thanks much, hair mama!!!
