Dark Knight's Joker had no prior connection to Batman/Bruce that we KNOW OF..... refreshing....but most of the other incarnations of THE JOKER (Tim Burton's Batman, GOTHAM, and Joq Phoenix's Joker) HAD a previous tie to Batman/Bruce. Having heroes and villains team up? Well if we get a 2nd Zach Snyder Justice League film....we can see The Joker and Batman team up against Superman and Darkseid. ("A TRUCE? BRUCE?")

Thanks for this, I needed it! About the dumb super villains, I met up with a couple of buddies, one of whom mentioned reading "Things characters should do if they're in a superhero movie." They have the super villain's sister, captain of the guard, GF, etc, and the super villain himself. This was a few decades ago. One of the things it was suggested to the super villain character was after you've written out your entire plan, have a five year old read it. If the five year old points out ANYTHING WRONG with the plan, completely change it immediately!

Personally, I hate the classic "My-Henchman-Failed-Me-So-I'm-Gonna-Kill-Them-To-Prove-A-Point" Scene. I get that you need to establish the violent/psychotic nature of the villains...but henchmen are a finite resource, man! There's only so many of them at your disposal.

But why are the villains violent sociopaths leading an undisciplined mob until they need to team up with the hero to fight the greater threat, when they suddenly turn into a determined tactician leading resourceful commandos?

I watched the first and superior Avengers movie last night. Still good still one of the best.

Idea: Biological father (let's say Bob) big bad leads the charge with his adopted/step-son (let's say Joe) against the protagonist, a superpowered young woman (big bad's daughter, let's say Jane) who defected from their evil organization who had her memories of that time removed - doesn't matter if it's a trauma response, supernatural curse, etc. Despite switching off battles between blood-related Bob and not-blood-related Joe, surrounded by more disposable goons, she gets away time and again while inflicting enough damage that the two men cannot both be in a battle save for an opening sequence and the finale. In between battles, we get scenes of her recovering lost memories of her father's actual omnicidal plot and her time in his organization interspersed with scenes of an increasingly disillusioned adopted/step-son seeing the father becoming more unhinged. In that finale, Bob, Joe, and Jane finally all duke it out, with a comeback and triumphant strike against the father thwarted by the son. The father then strikes Jane, mortally wounding and mostly incapacitating her, even starting to continue hurting her while she's down while monologuing about how both of his children are worthless, how he's a god, blah blah blah, to the point that Joe is horrified by what their father had done and will do. Ultimately, as daddy dearest reaches the zenith of his plan, Joe strikes at him, and they engage in a brief duel. Ultimately, the estranged siblings work together to defeat their father and shut down his organization/device/other supervillain contrivance, despite both being mortally wounded in the process. The movie closes on a moment of reconciliation as the two reminisce about their awful childhood as they eventually are finally killed by falling debris.

A dumb villain cliche I find frustrating is that the villain leave the hero alive to torture him. It will be fine is his only plan was getting revenge but the villains that make that actually have a biggest plan and he is wasting time and resources keeping the hero alive just to torture him when it could be more effective and equally sastifying shoot him and the only thing he wins is complicated his biggest plan. Say what you want about the death trap cliche, at least the villains that made it was trying to kill the hero.

To be fair, with some of those adaptions, the characters were related long before the movies were made, like Loki & Ares. The James Bond one though, that was all Hollywoods fault, not to mention they pretty much did it twice since they did something similar & kinda done better in Skyfall.
