I REWATCHED FAST AND FURIOUS AND I WAS RIGHT! Some of you tried to convince me that WASN'T Braga's plan - but it is. It just took me this long to bother rewatching that crap movie. I am vindicated.
Can you do the opposite video. “Movie Plans That Need More Thought” I recently had to revisit the Double Dragon movie and the villain’s plans are dumb.
You know Michael Cain actually tells Hugh Jackman that the trick is done by a double and Hugh Jackman laughs it off as impossible and that's why he goes looking for Tesla.
Also for Minority Report they may see other things, but the police only have jurisdiction in DC. They were testing it with the idea that it would work everywhere.
You missed the point of the Prestige, it's in the title "The Prestige". Angier was obsessed with beating Borden and being the man in the prestige, he couldn't share the final bow with anyone, not even himself.
This is exactly his point! What the guys on Cracked are missing is that he already tried this with a double (which will be the same with his clones). Now, what keeps me up at night is the fact that even though he's cloning himself, he (The Angier we are watching) dies every time he uses the machine. So, it's like you know you'll be drowning at the end of your speech.
He didn't like sharing with his double because he was always the man under the stage since his double was a bungling drunk. He just needed to take turns with his clone and there wouldn't have been any issues.
I was explaining this aloud to myself as I scrolled down to see if anyone had pointed it out. It's the main difference between them. Two men sharing half a life with pure dedication and modest fame, and one man living an entire life with huge fame, but at such a cost.
Thanks to "Archer", I tend to Google any subtle references that I can at least recoginze as references...So it's like the masters of the subtle are teaching while entertaining.
Man, the editing on these videos are getting even better and better. Brilliant cutaway gags every time with excellent timing and hilarious scenes plucked out of context
@@Drjordanbreeding Dude, I feel like a celebrity's responding to me. Haha! But yes, could tell that you're putting more thought into using edits as bits while writing your script. Keep up the ace work, Dr Breeding! See you at my next appointment.
There’s a good reason why the elders couldn’t leave the village. It was their New Years Resolution to never leave. Sending the blind girl was easier than breaking a resolution
What I didn't understand was how was Tesla not taking in all the money with his machine that could duplicate anything? Including diamonds or Swiss watches, or, say hospital equipment - wasting s miracle on some stage show.
Minority Report actually had a sequel television series, but sadly it only lasted 1 Season. If you can find it, check it out because it's pretty good and added onto the backstory/developed more of the 3 precogs.
I am engaged. This is good content. Why, I might even enjoy the content so much that I would be interested in a product advertised after the video, by association.
@@Drjordanbreeding This episode brought to you by Mighty Putty. We can hold the weakest of needlessly elaborate schemes. You just kneed it like dough, apply it and this s*** can pull Optimus Prime!
#6: Zemo’s in Civil War was just as bad, but Disney didn’t cut down the theatrical runtime like WB’s BvS, so we could at least connect the dots pretty easy.
@@cjwrench07 As much as I think Civil War was the height of the MCU, it's a hot mess. Tony Stark forcing the Avengers to sign a document to basically cover up for Tony Stark's mistakes in all the previous films. Tony Stark then enlisting the help of a masked vigilante, Spider-Man, to stop Steve Rodger, a man on the run because he doesn't want the government to crack down on vigilantes fighting crime. Tony Stark fights Cap and Bucky because a mind controlled Bucky killed his mommy and daddy 30ish years ago, while T'Challa is outside forgiving the man who killed his father last week on purpose to set this whole thing up. And then in Spider-Man Homecoming we learn Tony Stark lets the kid keep the suit to continue being a vigilante.
Thank you! I have always hated that killing of clothes bit in The Prestige. With him killing the original that means he never once experienced the glory of The Prestige on the disappearing man trick because he killed himself on the debut of it.
I wanted to say, the "brief, making-everything-sound-dirty recap at the end' bit is nice, and is a cool "hook" to set this show apart from similar Cracked series. I'm not sure if the fake doctor thing works as well, mostly because it doesn't seem to interface with the rest of the episode. It doesn't detract from the episodes either, though, so this isn't intended as a complaint.
Yeah, the doctor was just something built from the title pun. When I pitched the pilot episode, I didn't seriously think they'd take it or want more! I feel like it doesn't do the show justice to try too hard to make it doctor-y. It's just a thin framework to push my stupid ideas about movies. At some point... I may kill him haha.
@@almightycinder but thinks he DOES have his doctorate!! Actually, it would be super easy to grab the doctorate since it is right under the desk. Jordan shows us every chance he gets.
If you’re just finding us or didn’t realize Cracked was making videos again, I did an FAQ video of who I am and what’s going on here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_Shv6M9D5gQ.html. I also wrote a much shorter thing: thejordanbreedingblog.wordpress.com/2020/04/24/i-made-a-thing-please-dont-hate-me-for-it/.
Yea, but.. To be honest, I don't like what Cracked did to its other creators. Whether the cracked gods willingly or unwillingly let go of the previous staff. I was a die hard fan of all those people. I read your blog post so I get that you are fan too. I'm glad you made that blog post and the video explaining. I'm glad to learn that Cracked is not owned by the same company anymore. Unless this is a ruse... hmm... Did the other "evil" media company realize their mistake and then subsequently found out that they had to jump ship. I'll think about undoing my unsubscribe. Great job, Jordan!
THANK YOU that issue with The Prestige was the first thing I thought when I first saw it. But Iwrote it off as Nolan's way of saying "these people are crazy." Really, every Nolan protagonist is bat-shit nuts. No Bat-pun intended.
OK, best one yet. You legitimately dismantled each of these plots, including the one good movie. Yeah, yeah, and it was funny, but let's worry about what's really important here.
Slowing down the video at the beginning to see if they spliced in anything (a la Fight Club) made me realize Jordan sounds like every drunk with a story to tell. 😂😂😂
My biggest question about The Village was that how come a plane never flew overhead? That would certainly blow the charade. Did the elders have so much political pull with the authorities that their airspace was a no fly zone?
The Prestige: He had to keep killing himself because he knew he COULDN'T convince his clone (himself) not to kill the other. He does NOT want to share the fame. His character is all HIM wanting to be the best.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE VIDEOS!!! You are HILARIOUS and you ALWAYS make valid points! With 2.6 Millions subs I don't get why you don't get that many views. I REALLY think it could be just as simple as making better thumbnails (they REALLY suck TBH, sorry.. you don't need to have the title in it, it just needs to be eye catching, seriously, leave the words for the video title) and a better title ( it doesn't have to explain everything, it JUST HAAS to be, you guessed it, EYE CATCHING!! I would start with 'Your Brain on CRACKED!" then a short description - maybe you could've just said for this video "Keep It Simple Stoopid" (yes i know its spelled wrong) - Again, you're just trying to make clickbait here, not the traditional BAIT part, but you only want to make then click, the rest comes from the video - make an eye catching pic with an interesting title that fits in the two short lines of a thumbnail, you don't even have to put "Your Brain on Cracked!",viewers will see it's from the Cracked channel right under the title - this could be all that it takes to get your numbers WAY UP! - look at the after hours videos, just from the two that I'm seeing on the thumbnail list on the right, they both have over a Million views, one has over 2 Million, and their thumbnails have the "After Hours" logo right on both the pics, in the same spot, so it's instantly recognizable, and then pics of the actors in the movies they are talking about - but directly below those two is one of you videos from a month ago- and the only thing i can really understand in your thumb nail is a tv screen with Adam Drtiver's face screaming in it, yes there is text but it's not very easy to read, so naturally at a glance i skip right over it without a thought, where as if i saw it was "Your Brain on Cracked" i would instantly think "oh thats frikkin funny stuff - CLICK!" - it doesnt even matter what the title says, i can see that i havent viewed it and i know what it is, and i know i like it, so i click it - BOTTOM LINE (literally, and figuratively lol) Make a recognizable logo that pops fit into your thumbnail, a short sweet title, and use a only pic to describe the vid and differentiate it -- I REALLY HOPE you take my advice, I watch a LOT of youtube andf it really is just as simple as this to get more views - and if u do listen I PRAY that it works for you!! I LOVE YOU VIDS!!!
Tweedle I mean a lot of it is probably the crazy level of algorithm manipulation on RU-vid these days. Cracked RU-vid went down when they changed the reach of videos to subs and ruined the ad revenue of smaller channels. RU-vid is only interested in real media companies and their favorite content creators now.
@@amanwithdope Yeah I think we can totally do better with thumbnails and advertising, but as far as I can tell it's like we're starting over. Sure, we've got the subscribers, but if even 10% knew we had videos out, we'd be over 250k per thing. It's a very weird system, and I need to learn more about how to make it all work.
And your first example falls down on its own. You pointed out yourself, the Elders didn't send Ivy alone, they sent two young men to help and guide her the majority of the way-- but they chickened out, and Ivy had the guts to go on alone. The Elders couldn't leave because they'd sworn never to go. Also, they had Adrien Brody's character locked up, and didn't realize he'd escaped until after she was on her way.
Hugh Jackman's character was turned off by the idea of keeping his double around because of what happens earlier with his double demanding more money. better for there to be (because there can only be) 1 Hugh Jackman
The biggest sins by The Prestige is the idea that 1. Nikola Tesla would, in good concience, ever make such a machine, 2. that he would give it to someone whose ambitions so obviously outweighed their morals and 3. that he would shake hands. With anyone. In fact, it's a known fact he went as far as lying that he hurt his hands in a lab accident to avoid physical contact with others. Also, as much as i love Bowie, and i love him the most, Nikola Tesla was a giant in his time and would, even now, be considered exceptionally tall, and Bowie decidedly was not. And yes, i do realise that last part is nitpicky, but other than that, Nolan did Tesla dirty!
Yea... You missed the entire point of drowning the clones in The Prestige. He already tried getting someone who looked like him on board and it didn't go well. He then, knows himself enough that if there was another one of him running around, he too would crave the spotlight and make things very bad for him. Especially if it gets out that he's using a "Twin." So, if at any point there's only one, it would continue the trend of only having one and the at one would have to get drowned. Then, he collects them, probably because the last thing he needs is someone who looks like him, washing up on a shore somewhere or being found in some other way, which given his celebrity status, would most likely be a pretty high profile affair. So if he has all the bodies, he can control what happens to them.
Quantum of solace - villain scheme required ridiculous amount of man hours, and absolute precision timing, and also him being imprisoned in the middle. This required the MI5 to also act exactly as he planned, with no possible plan B, since he was at their mercy for the time being.
I know this is meant to be comedy, but The Prestige is a really great movie with such an elaborate story. It shows magicians trying to perfect and one up each other with the perfect trick while one actually discovers real magic during their life long dedication to one upping each other. Angier drowns himself every night so that he can feel the pain of his lost love, who also drowned in a magic trick, while the clone lives on to keep his legacy going until the next trick. Hes stuck in an endless cycle of perfection, madness and...Prestige.
Maybe cause its the precogs mom she would see the murder no matter what? I'm not saying they establish this idea in the movie but they could have... Not the only problem with the plan though
I've always wondered what happened to the red ball? There's always a red ball that shows up with the victim's name on it. So since this wasn't an echo, it would have produced a red ball with precogs mom's name on it. I guess the killer guy could have just slipped in and stolen it, but seems pretty risky.
@@launchpadmcquack8142 right and we see that there are witnesses every time that a ball is produced so who is seeing the scene before the agents and witnesses that decides that the ball gets made and the scene gets viewed that is stopping this process?
@@rachelzahava8292 Totally. He would have had to have been standing in the room and picked it up and been like "IT SAYS THE SAME DUDE SO NO NEED TO WITNESS IT GOING IN THE TRASH HAHA!"
@@Drjordanbreeding the other problem I have is that the precogs have a limited range, they just do, the liquid thing helps, them extend that range and so does being together I guess, but even if the bosses plan all worked out and no one ever found out how was this guy gonna turn these three kids into a NATIONAL murder prevention system when they are just getting a single city under control and also are the children immortal? like what is the long term plan like 70 years from now will there just suddenly be people getting away with murder again and no one who knows how to be a regular cop and investigate the thing after the fact?
@@rachelzahava8292 Yeah, I guess they'd just get funding for testing and further drugs and stuff. They kind of play it off as a once in a lifetime thing, but I assume they'd find a way if they ever got national government funding.
There's actually several good reasons for not simply killing Anne Lively out-of-state. For one, she didn't just need to die, she also needed to disappear. If her death was investigated and they discover her connection to Agatha, then the trail leads back to Pre-Crime, and therefore Burgess For another, Burgess didn't have the experience to pull off an assault/kidnapping/murder/disposal on his own without getting caught, especially given the pervasive surveillance seen in the film. He didn't know how to be a hit-man. What he did know, inside and out, was Pre-Crime, which was the tool he used to cover up the murder. And finally, there's the fact that since the crime began life in Washington DC, it might still be covered by the Precogs. We see that their visions show the immediate lead-up to the murder, not simply the act itself, and if their abilities recognize the initial assault as the "start" of the murder, it might not escape their notice.
These are some good points! I do think with the first one, like I said, nobody gives a crap about her (hence why they just "erase her" from the database) so her getting dumped in the Atlantic wouldn't make a huge difference I wouldn't think. Remember, she's only in the database to be erased from because she was about to be murdered in the first place. Second point is solid too, although it's important to note that he invited her in the first place. He could have invited her somewhere else, and killed her there presumably. And yeah that's possible, but are we ever shown anything besides a few minutes before a murder? Like a couple hours or more before?
It really pained my head why they kept killing the clowns in the prestige ... But maybe , just maybe . The character is a narcisist and refuses someone else to share the credit of the trick ( even if its a clown ) thats why he lost at the end . Because moral justice has to be surved in films ...
The point of Angier in The Prestige was that he would rather drown over and over than share the spotlight with a clone. He couldn't handle not being in the spotlight for one performance longer and would have obviously thought to have a single clone as an option, but reject the idea because sharing the applause would be a failure in the performance for him. The whole point of the story was that the Borden twins were better magicians because they loved the craft, whereas Angier loved the glory.
but he let the actor do it. And only reason he couldn't enjoy The Prestige with him because he couldn't do the setup the Clone would be able to do the setup allowing him to have the spotlight. He died before anybody cheered so to be honest he never got the experience any Glory from the first time you did that trick because he killed himself opening night.
I thought of the Prestige one, too! All he had to do is make one duplicate. Plus, the guy was rich, so there's plenty of room and money for two of him. No copy of him had to die at all.
I'm sure someone's already mentioned this, but the implication at the end of The Prestige is that the cloning never worked at all, and Jackman was just tricking Bale into thinking he was the better magician in a final act of one-upmanship.
This guy is great and Im digging the nostalgia of this DOBesque desk show, but I'd love to see a different style show cause Swaim and Dan killed this format. P.S. DONT STOP IVE MISSED CRACKED.....SO MUCH....so so much.
You didn't understand the prestige. The point was he can't split the success even with a clone of himself. He would reader die then not be the one at the end that gets the applause.
Bruce Johnson imagine that. You are brought into existence and know right away that in doing so, you are sentencing yourself to death and will soon drown too. Bleak.
@@borismuller86 The magic trick needs one person to start and one to finish. The second one gets the applauses and he can't live as the first one looking from the back of the stage. He asked Alfred how can he do it and Alfred tells him they switched so half the time one is gating the applauses half the other one. But that is unacceptable to him. So the first one has to die because he is the less important in his eyes even if this way only the clone survived. This is the name of the movie the Prestige. Cutter explains it in The trick with the bird. You do something incredible but it is not enough, the most important thing is the Prestige.
It's oddly comforting in a way to know that the inane series known as _Thr Fast and the Furious_ has had overly complicated, dumb plots from the very beginning given how silly the plots for the latest movies seem just in passing. You could likely do an entire video on this topic just about that series, though you'd probably end having to cover all of those movies, which seems like an unfair punishment to put on you.
When Fate of the Furious came out I decided I should just take the plunge and watch them all, which I did in 48 hours. There's a LOT to discuss there, which is why they've already shown up at least once... maybe twice in just 9 episodes?
@@Drjordanbreeding It was an acceptable homage for now. @@Tyking7 Hey, thanks so much. I really appreciate that. I know what we're doing is weird and awkward on some level, but I do think there's some life in this channel yet!
There's a Christian Slater movie called Guns, Girls and Gambling that rips off the plot of Lucky Number Slevin. It's bizarre how similar they are. The bad guys are known as The Chief and The Rancher, no real names like The Boss and The Rabbi. Slater is helped by the girl next door. There's a mysterious hitman (a blonde woman instead of Bruce Willis) that's actually in league with Slater. Even has the same twist, where the random story told is actually the main character's back story.
9:19 - Doesn't he say that when he first tried the trick, then the clone tried to kill him? Probably because he is so vain that neither him nor the clone can bear the thought of there being two of them and having to share the fame and attention.
The reason why Hugh Jackman's character never gets The point that you make. It's because only one person can have the spotlight at one time. Hugh Jackman's character couldn't stand not being the main guy at the top in the spotlight. Christen Bale character understood the sacrifice of a good trick. That's why he needed to share his life with his brother. He literally explains it at the end of the movie. That's why Hugh Jackman's character loses. It's his ego. He killed all of his clones because he couldn't imagine a life with nobody else but one version of himself.
I believe the whole point from "The prestige" is that Angiers was too crazy for being the best and didn't want to share the limelight and couldn't trust another version of himself. That's why when he first cloned himself the original most likely got shot. Borden killed the 35th clone probably and he drown them because he blamed himself in a way for the death of his wife as well as Borden. It was his punishment in a way because you never know if you are the original or a clone that goes into the vat. Angier doesn't really cares if he is a clone or not but to be the best was the whole point. If there was another clone the possibility of someone seeing his twin would ruin his act. That's why Borden had to share his own life with his brother to make his act seem impossible. I don't know why he kept the bodies either.
A game of thrones themed intro? I now know for sure this guy was trapped in the Cracked office when they collapsed. Everyone who is on the outside knows about the pact, where after what happened in Season 8 we all collectively swore to never mention GoT ever again.
@@Drjordanbreeding True haha but have you noticed that no-one talks about it anymore? No memes, no references, nothing. We all swore a pact. Love your work btw dude keep it up.
@@Drjordanbreeding Yeah, i guess we all have bigger concerns how. No worries, i was a Cracked fan back in the day and am happy to know that you've managed to resurrect at least part of it.
In the Prestige, Borden's partner isn't his natural twin. It's exactly what you suggested Angier should do, a clone created by Tesla's "science" that decides to work with the original without the whole dying bit.
Just a word about Django Unchained. The plan for Dr King and Django to go to Candieland was dumb. Django and his wife have the same scar on their face. They were gonna be discovered! The plan would have been so simple had Dr King gone by himself. All he had to do was ride in, say "I speak German and I heard you have a German-speaking slave. I want to buy her so I can practice German." He could have bought her for a fair price and walked out, no problem.
Jackman used a double, first. But he hated that his double got the applause and glory after the magic trick was performed, so he went for the cloning alternative.
@@Drjordanbreeding It was a great movie, one of few I didn't get the twist til the damn end. So when you say apologist, I didn't realize it got a lot of flak other than Hartnet coming off of... Wicker park or something around that time. Brad Pitt proved that pretty boy actors can be impacting. EDIT: Unless you count that movie I watched twice drunk and realized in the last 5 minutes. I was a bloodhound on that plot.
Alls good... Except that the cloning machine in The Prestige is not a Deus Ex Machina. It may be considered a convenient plot point (though I wouldn't agree), but it is NOT a conflict-solving external force.
