A great alternative to giving clients a hundred clips with raw footage, you can lay it all out on a timeline in order, color it, and call it a documentary edit and charge $2k+. That works extremely well for me

Damn, that was solid! I'm a wedding photographer, but I can still benefit from this! Some people have asked for RAW photos and I've said "Absolutely - just cover the cost of the harddrive + shipping fees and it's yours!" Of course I warn them about seeing dark, unedited, repetitive photos. I guess I can start charging for this!

@@kowalskivideos6476 imma be honest. I almost prefer that over dried... Chicken breast and asparagus. I dunno. Vendor meals are generally trash unless it is a (1) ethnic wedding with buffet or (2) American BBQ buffet

@@nVuFilms when I shot dc weddings I had the same experience but I do Richmond and Charlottesville now and it’s usually really good southern bbq especially southern va food is really good most of the time

EDIT: You already answered similar questions THANKS! Awesome that you're mentioning raw footage. I have questions : What do you do if you shoot in log ? do I simply give them that (especially if they pay)..... What if the footage is shaky at first etc, do you edit video/by video with just some cuts (but that times hundreds of clips would be insane). Or is there an easier way to do that ? Thank you for your answer and your awesome tips I've learned so much from you !

wow thats that's exactly how I do my pricing.. I have three packages Basic package: Highlight fim only Pro Package: Highlight fim and Ceremony only Ultra Pro Package: Highlight fim, Ceremony, and what I call a BTS (Behind the scenes) I don't put much in the editing I just put all the special moments and full videos. and if they purchase them as an add-on its more than what it cost to get an upgraded package I also offer an engagement video as an addon too.

Love the add on ideas! I started doing the ceremony add on and realized how few couples actually want a full ceremony - its saved me so much time and energy! I am curious though - when it comes to Raw footage, are people usually okay with rocky footage and clips with a shakey camera if you're running around? I find I shoot in 60fps about 50% of the time and often continue filming while running from one side to the other. Do people care about the shakiness? Such a cool idea to add this on! I've had people ask but I just get worried they will think my work is bad

Hey thanks! As long as you tell the couple ahead of time and set their expectations for what they will be getting, I think it’s fine to offer raw footage even if some of it shaky :)

The same reason I have never offered it. Plus it’s not color graded or anything. Plus if you’re shooting in 10 bit there system may not be able to play it easily. Iv never offered my raw footage before, Definitely something to think about.

3 years ago I started offering raw footage with my packages and saw a huge increase in sales. it sells much more than the edited ceremony and/or speeches add-on. However, I'm guilty of charging 300 for it. I package it with my highlight packages and no one ever asks for it to be removed. When I tried packaging the edited highlight and speeches my sales were down. I suppose I can experiment with raising prices and packaging in the edited ceremony/and or speeches, but then again that is more editing work. You make more money but you loose time. I lean more towards giving them Raw Footage for a reasonable price that they won't hesitate to buy and not have to spend my time editing additional videos. What do y'all think?

Hi Matt! How do you manage delivering raw footage from the Sony A7siii shot in 4k, 10 bit 60/120 frames ? These files don't typically open on most people's computer. I personally open them on my editing software.

Hey! You can either educate your couples on a software they can use to open it (I have a video about that on my channel) or you could convert all the files to an easier playing file and send that to the couple

A pair of sony zv1 + yolobox = livestream setup for +$500-800 more.. Make 4k a premium.. been delivering in 1080 to this day and so far everyone's happy Offer several editing outputs for like 300-500 per editing style

Great tips Matt! Question regarding raw footage... Do you color grade or transform your footage before giving it to your couples? I shoot all of my weddings in slog3, so we always make sure to warn the couples that the footage will be kinda dull compared to their highlight films. How do you go about this? Thanks!

As long as you tell the couple what to expect ahead of time it should be fine to deliver slog footage. Just explain to them what it will look like and maybe provide examples if you need to

An alternative is to run the footage through an encoder, or just drop it on a timeline and export it with your corrective LUT. I have a process doing this and not only is still stupid easy & fast, but I think the customer experience is VASTLY superior.

Hey Matt, I guess one of my questions is let’s say you offered a package for raw footage and the couple wants the whole ceremony no cuts or edits. Being a solo wedding videographer how would you go about that because going solo I try to get different angles of the couple during ceremony talking so it’s not just one full on angle so therefore there HAS to be cuts. If I leave another camera recording the whole time I’ll get in the way or photographer might. 30 min straight is pretty tough on a camera. See my question here lol

hey! I would probably setup a stationary angle high on a tripod and educate the couple on how that may be blocked every once in a while by me or the guests/photog etc. As long as they know what they are getting with raw they should be fine with it. :)

You could possibly hire an assistant just for the ceremony to be stationed at camera to make sure everything is framed and in focus.

What I do is I have 2 cameras. One is always on a tripod and then the other I switch between a gimbal and tripod. The ronin S baseplate slides right on to a tripod. I start on gimbal when the bride walks down the isle, put it on a tripod for the ceremony and then put it back on the gimbal during the signing portion so I can move around for the kiss and exit. That other stationary camera is always recording and up high like Matt said. During the ceremony when both cameras are on tripods I go back and forth between the 2 tripods and check focus and recording time. After about 10 minutes, I start the recording again to avoid the automatic stop. I used to just use the two tripods and not the gimbal but this was hard to capture the start and end of the ceremony when people move around. I also used a monopod for a bit but it can be a little sketchy leaving a monopod upright on its own because it has small legs. I would just let the couple know that this is how and why you do things an that the whole ceremony is there. It's just in different clips and if the want the full ceremony all in one video they have to buy the full edited ceremony and you will do as little edits as possible if that's what they want.

U can do something in there w write offs on those extra edits too. Im new to this stuff but I've been an artist for a few years now, advertising covers a lot of things. Take a still from a "free toast video" post it on social, now you have a 600$ advertisement that you get to write off when tax time comes. Youre welcome.

Bit more work there! But you could batch export basically all your clips to mp4 with a rec709 look and it should work? I think?

I just booked my first wedding. 3000 USD 😄 Thing is: They don't know it's my first wedding, but never asked either. Also: I have bought gear for about 25000 USD, and do everything well and wholeheartedly, after alot of research. So I'm confident the film will be great. So I've not mentioned it. They're buying a high quality film, not my past.

My packages are more affordable than someone like Flourish Films, and hardly anyone wants to pay full price. They just want the cheapest option possible, and the end result looks like they got a kid who never used a gimbal before.

You should also follow your own advice. Your kind of cheap and some videographers might compare their prices with yours and realise they don't have where to raise them anymore, they are not as famous
