Love this video! I bought the book right after it came out and I have to say, it is my favorite TTMIK book. My reason is that there are lots of books on grammar and vocabulary (and I love TTMIK's books on these topics too), but not so many on pronunciation. I study with a pronunciation teacher and he also thinks this is a great book. I'm always recommending this book to others because it's so valuable.

In my dialect of English we have a lot of unvoiced consonants, which has really helped me! I struggle with some of the vowels though. Thank you for this!

Thanks to K-drama OSTs, now I know these differences and the correct pronunciation. After finished watching a Kdrama l listen to the OSTs with hangeul lyrics. So I can understand these three and some other difficult pronunciations. Listening is the toughest part for me, as a Korean language learner.

I use the google translate app to practice my pronunciation. If the AI can understand me, it's generally a good bet a human could. But I have so much trouble with that double ㄹ sound. The app often only understands one. I don't understand how to do it so it is intelligible. I get the concept but not the practice. Can you guys make some videos getting more into that difficult phonology? (Or trying to do speech to text in Korean and pointing out where the AI struggles with native speakers as well?)

The abrupt stop on the final consonant applies to most words in English, too.

Definitely have to work on #1, i keep pronouncing those words with a ㅋ.

Some ending consonants oftentimes get cut off or shortened at the ends of words in English as well, depending on the word and other words around it. For example,with plastic bottle I barely pronounce the k sound. If it's at the end of a sentence or followed by a vowel, like plastic egg, it gets pronounced more and possibly even gets shifted to the beginning of the next word, like plasti kegg. At least with the way I speak as a Milwaukeean (sp?).

He must have been born and raised in the US because his pronunciation is perfect.

I want to learn the Korean alphabet but I’m finding it hard to do the pronunciation bc I’m a few years into learning Japanese so I accidentally say the Japanese pronunciation instead of the Korean so it’s kinda annoying

There's an English word I'm finding out that is pronounced incorrectly...by Koreans... Orange... They pronounce the "e" at the end of the word .. they do not understand that the "e" is silent. It sounds like they are saying Orangey. Thanks for your fabulous video on Korean pronunciation.... This is where I have the most difficult time with the language.... Please load up more videos on this subject.

I can't hear the difference between 2 "K" sounds at all. For me they sound the same :(

My pronounction is not a problem for me but listening is. I'm havng a real hard time with that. How if I watch Kdrama and Kpop will improve my listening skills and why?? They speak very fast at times I need help with this. Can you all make a video on how to listen and to practice listening skills please? What do you think guys? I think its more than Japanese because I can listen to that. Am I not listening enough Kdramas and Kpop??

But then where's the difference between the k-sound of 기억/가족 and 부엌? Is it the same sound and they only differ in writing? This also confuses me with all the 받침s (sry there 😂) which have a t-sound. The difference between ㄷ, ㅌ, ㅆ, ㅅ, ㅊ, ㅈ, etc. Also 없다 for exmple.

Guacamole is NOT an English word. It comes from Mexico.

Okay but like...If it's an English word to begin with, is it really wrong to pronounce it with English pronunciation? lol. Somethings like 컴퓨터 are just incredibly unnatural for an English speaker and to me, it genuinely feels like I'm trying to mimic an Asian who can't speak English properly. It almost feels like I'm being insulting by pronouncing the word that way. I'm sure Korean's don't see it that way if you're using the word in a full Korean sentence though, but as an American...it feels kind of weird. Also, what REALLY throws me off is ㅈ, so many times I see a word that starts with this letter and very often it sounds like Korean's are pronouncing the word as if it starts with ㅊ instead. I've come to the conclusion this is just something that happens due to the speed at which native speakers speak though. Lastly, is there any advice for properly pronouncing the double ㄹ ? In my head the 받침 sounds like an L and the first consonent sounds like an R...but when you pronounced it was one ㄹ it sounds almost identical to the double ㄹ pronunciation and I'm having trouble picking out the difference.
