"...don't have to think about losing or gaining weight"... be careful with that. Weightloss surgery is not a magical fix. It's a tool. You will still have to to be mindful of those things. You can still gain weight even after surgery. I know several people who gained the weight right back afterwards. thinking it's some fix where you wont have to worry about that anymore is not wise.
yes, @KatherineRoseArt, pretty sure she knows this. She is a very aware person. She's talking about having some things taken out of her control so her mind can relax. This whole video is about being mindful about what/how to eat post-surgery for best results re: overall health.
I think she’s saying she doesn’t spend her day thinking about her weight, rather than saying she’s not thinking about her nutritional needs/goals. I get the concern but I think so long as she stays focused on hitting her nutrition goals and following the guidelines for her surgery she is going to have continued success without having to think about losing or gaining weight.
I got to my heaviest weight of 384 lbs AFTER gastric sleeve because I didn't take it seriously and stretched my pouch out. I changed my lifestyle habits after that, got a trainer and I've lost 180 lbs. I'm point is you cannot eat whatever you want and avoid carbonated drinks. They stretch your stomach. Eat healthy and have a great time doing it
She had a DS. She will definitely lose weight. It is very difficult to regain. Even people who do regain regain maybe like 10% of their weight loss not all of it. That is if they had a good DS surgeon. If you were close to 400lbs you really should have considered DS not VSG.
April, I found your channel near the beginning of your journey. I started following because I found inspiration through others who were also trying to lose weight and live healthier, and who, like you, were brave enough to share it with us. The good bits, as well as the setbacks. It somehow makes real life and its struggles more relatable in a social media world of “perfection”. I remember watching your earliest videos where you attempted to walk 1 mile and you struggled, but you were so determined. And from there you went on to run a 1/2 marathon. I don’t know you, but I’ve seen you grow and develop so much, not only in your weight loss journey but as a beautiful person. I felt happy for you when you had victories and empathized with you when you had to pick up your life at such a high point to start over in a new place. We all fall down, but you got back up, made a tremendous decision to turn it around, and I’m so happy to see you smiling again!! I’m cheering for you just like so many of us!
Glad you’re hanging in there and following your doctor’s orders. Sara is an amazing person and I couldn’t be happier for her success, and also that you and others are able to learn from her shared experience. I’m glad you connected with her… she’s a good friend to have. 💚🐝
Me too! I am very lucky to have a whole team and that they communicate so well between each other! I think it helps all of my providers use the same charting system too, so they all can see everything! ❤. I love Sara, and I am so blessed to call her a friend!! ❤❤❤
So happy and proud of you. Keep up the great work. I’ve been following your journey for a long time and you’re such a kind person and I’m really happy to see you make progress toward your goals. ❤
Hearing you talk about fullness queues is so important, learning how to notice when you are full is so important. I will be looking out for this going forward for myself. As always, thank you for sharing and for making this courner of the internet so bright.
You've been posting these every 3-4 days recently, so I'm guessing these were recorded earlier? Just wondering about the actual timeline and what actual week you're on now. In any case, glad you're back and doing what you need to do for yourself, whatever that may be.
I didn't learn about them until I attended the first meeting with the dietitian pre-weight loss surgery. Of course, I have heard stop when you are full so many times, but I did not understand the various ways our bodies may signal to us that we are full or getting full. Sending lots of love! ❤
Something to consider to replace the focus on weight loss (since that is a concern for you) is to develope hobbies that don't relate to it. For example for me it's art. It might be different for you but maybe trying to figure that out as part of your journey might be helpful.
I am so happy for you I got the SADI procedure in Sept 2023 and it was the best thing that happened to me. I will say that the hair loss no matter how hard you try is kind of inevitable just a matter of how to mitigate the least amount of hair loss. You got this!!!! So glad to see you back on my suggested videos
You are doing amazing! You seem to have the right mindset, and that is the biggest part! I haven't had wls, but I watched my sil go through the whole process a few years ago. I lost 90 lbs a different (still healthy) way, and no matter how you achieve it healthily, it is HARD! 👏👏 to you for the hard steps you are taking for your life and your health! ❤
I love that, and I completely agree. Congratulations on losing 90lbs! I bet you feel wonderful and I am so happy for you!! And, I am happy for your SIL too!! ❤❤❤ Sending lots of love and thank you for encouraging me!!
Beyond sharing that I returned to work, I do not plan on sharing much about what I am specifically doing. Unfortunately, I do not feel safe doing so. Thanks for asking though! ❤
You know what April, I was becoming really frustrated with you in the past, but I'm so proud of your change and I think you're really brave for taking this step. I'm considering going down a similar path and I love to hear your experience with WLS in the future. Keep up doing the great work!
What to think of next was my question as well. You will think of maintenance, it takes the same amount of thought and at times even more. I'm amazed at how much maintenance takes over.
April, those are not expiration dates. They are best by dates. The tuna will not be bad and can be consumed safely after that date for a very long time. Glad you are doing well. Glad you’re back on RU-vid.
When u are ready, try to leave base and explore Hawaii. Exercise on walks and swims around the island. Take advantage cuz before u know it you will be back in mainland. People would love to be stationed in Hawaii..
I love that we're so close in this journey! We had different surgeries but they were around the same time (I'm 12 days post-op). I've had SUCH a hard time finding people on YT that aren't like, years post-op so this is nice. I'm still on liquids until the 18th and it's like torture lol I'm not hungry at all but I'm so sick of liquids.
I think we are about six weeks apart! Still pretty close, I had my surgery the 15th of April. :) If you'd like to send me a message on IG, I'd love to chat with you! (No pressure!) The liquid phase was hard, by the end and even now when I think about protein shakes I feel a little nauseous, haha. Each phase definitely has its own ups and downs, I found. I am rooting for you and sending lots of love!
I haven’t had bariatric surgery, but I have had abdominal surgery that required me to be on a liquid diet. I found it hard to transition back to solid food. I also think we’ve learned to not trust ourselves around food and that brings on the fear. Like we’re going to lose control again. ❤
Hello! I had my surgery 10months ago, and i would love to share some tips, that might be interesting for you or other people reading , to try out. I suffered excrutiating hair loss, and now i am finally noticing some baby hair that are growing back. I noticed that people from my community who didnt or lost very little, were the ones who had vitamins and protein intake REALLY in check. Since it is very hard to keep up with protein intake, a lot of us, in Germany, are recommend to drink clear whey. It has little calories but a lot of protein and taste and look like juice(i recommend trying some flavors before buying regular size tho). Also, neutral protein powder you can mix pretty smoothly in everything you eat, soups(which i know you are tired of now) and puree nut also cake/ pancake batter. 60g of protein, which is minimum recommended in Germany, feels Impossible at first, so those saved my life. I noticed also that swallowing pills is not the easiest, but there are special Supplements that are for wls patients. Since i got on the surgery path, i learned how obesity is an illness and how it really works. It is a shame that still so little people , also those who are suffering from it, know so little about that. I wish one day it changes, and the stigma of seeing obese people as lazy will disappear. Last but not least, Lauren, i am rooting for you so much. Since i found out your content way before my surgery, your words and struggles were hitting my heart deeply since i felt the same way. Now, I celebrate your success as if it was my own. I wish you all the best in the world, and thank you for existing❤
I’m on a boiled egg kick with mustard and turkey. Or salmon or a white fish right now. I still have a protein shake in the morning.. just because it’s simple and you can grab it to go. This is definitely a learning experience . You start feeling better day by day.
Thanks for sharing what you eating! We are doing very similar things right now!! I love boiled eggs! I've also done a healthy version of deviled eggs! ❤
Glad you realized how depression effects you and your eating habits. I am definitely in the same boat and while I appreciated your attempt by going slow, it was maddening to watch. 😂 Especially because you were going SO hard with your fitness game. I'm thrilled you made this decision and excited to see your results and glean some inspiration from your journey.
I loved what you said about being able to put down a 25lb weight. That must feel so freeing! I’m so excited for you. I have a 25 lb kettlebell that is quite heavy for me. In the past 2-3 years, I gained about 30 lbs. Sometimes I try to justify that it isn’t so bad, but how great would I feel if I could put down the extra 25 pound weight I’ve been carrying!!
When it comes to liquid protein, I strongly recommend clear whey! So much better than the creamy flavors. I recently discovered it, and it was a game changer for me. I have been using the Seeq brand, and it has worked very well. Great job focusing on protein through food first!
Thank you for sharing your journey with your followers. You're such an inspiration for those of us having a tough time with our own weightloss issues. You look happy and amazing. ❤
Thanks so much Diane! And thanks for asking! I am not sharing where I am working or what I am doing. But, I love it and it has been instrumental in helping me overcome my depression. Sending lots of love your way! ❤
Food addiction/idolatry is so rough because we have to eat. I’m praying you can get your heart and mind on the beautiful life you have and learn how nourish your body the way you need to for energy with the gift of food. I am in the same battle but not able to do surgery. I am happy for the tool you’ve decided to use. Blessings..
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and beautiful comment. I am so grateful for your prayers and sending lots of love your way! I'll keep you in my prayers as well! ❤
Congratulations on your success so far! That is so much weight to lose in such a short amount of time. I think it's awesome because I know the changes you feel will really drive you. I had my surgery 20 years ago. It was a different type than you had but the rules are the same. I will warn you about one type of meat. PORK, haha! Or any meat that is dry. I will just say steer clear of dry meat, that and pork products was hard on me. I know several others who had the surgery who said the same. In all reality taking small bites of meat, chewing thoroughly and waiting a tiny bit between bites helped a lot. Good luck! This is going to be an awesome journey!
Would you be willing to share your actual surgery date? Just curious how close we are together with our surgery dates! I had my RNY on 4/22. I resonate so much with so much of what you’ve said in these videos.
Emma is Emily. :) And, I did speak of my sister's channel. She has indeed been very successful! I love her so much and hope people will check out her story! ❤
Very happy for you April! Just keep swimming! One day at a time, one step at a time! I'm working on getting stronger and taking care of my mental health. I am able to run 2+ miles on an elliptical. Which I'm super proud to do! My youngest son was trying to put his older brother down that he ran like me. I proudly showed him my picture of my run from this week. And I normally run multiple times a week. I told him, "excuse me, what are you saying, here is what I ran this week." He asked why I took a picture of my work out. My husband kindly corrected him and said that I run more than anyone in the family. Very proud to keep up with our kiddos. One day at a time. :)
Great job! But real talk from a successful bariatric patient. Get that protein in with protein shakes if you need to! It is VERY hard to get enough in without. Try different ones until you find one you like. Start working with your therapist now if you haven't yet about the hair loss, as it is very nearly guaranteed. It usually starts a few months post-op, and I haven't heard of a single person who hasnt experienced at least some. And it is worth it! You can get extensions or a wig or rock some short hair!
Continued prayers that the journey will continue to feel easy and smooth. Right there with you on the depression and eating cycle - its so difficult. You're working hard at healing all at once - you got this! ❤️💪🐠🐡🐬 also, it is so rad that you can scuba and live in Hawaii - it sounds like once the physical healing is done the "working out" will be a joyous process with so much variety!
Wow! I never knew there were fullness cues! I’m going to start paying attention. Also, some say bariatric surgery is the easy way out. Not true!! I’m glad you are talking about the difficulties involved.
Aww, that makes me smile!! (If you ever see me again, I'd love for you to say hi!) The visibility wasn't the best, but we had so much fun!! ❤ Were you snorkeling, Diving or just hanging out on the beach? I hope you enjoyed it!
I watched your videos when you were losing weight on your own and it was quite impressive that you lost 100 pounds. Now not that impressive. You did all the work before!
