Live at the Royal Albert Hall (2/24/69) Buy the DVD here: www.maximumsound.org/Jimi-Hen... A 3 year old boy rushes onto the stage to meet Jimi Hendrix. Does Jimi give him a pick? I can't tell.
That's not just any random kid, Jimi already knew him and his parents well. His name is Charlie Weber, and his father Tommy Weber was a well known drug dealer to the rock stars of the day. Charlie and his older brother actor Jake Weber, were hanging out with their parents at Keith Richards' house in the south of France, Nellcote, while the Stones were recording Exile On Main Street.
The Band of Gypsys rendition on 1/1/1970 is imo the best version of Stone Free. But the solo improvisation in the middle of the Albert Hall version is one of my favorite Hendrix moments.
That was me. I'm now 55 years old and remember that night like it was yesterday. My mom and dad were flipping out on purple haze and wanted to hear the song while they were tripping on it.haha!!! (Rusty)
@@bartpitt2991 I'd have to look through my books on Hendrix to find the exact quote, but he said raising children would be like raising flowers in a garden. Hendrix did, however, actually have children, and never officially recognized them. I think he liked them, but his lousy upbringing would have made him a less than ideal father.
My guess is that he was really shocked and taken back how violent the reaction was when he tossed the remains of his guitar to the audience. He never set out to promote violence on any level but I think the first few rows were just way too pumped up and got way out of control. I also think at this time he was trying to steer away from the stage antics and really focus more on his playing abilities. But I guess for some reason he either slipped back into that role or felt it was safe to bring it back for this show. But it is a bit startling to watch everybody run like roaches as if the lights kicked on. You can see he's being escorted off the stage to make sure he doesn't get hurt. It looks like he's telling himself as he's crying and shaking his head.." I can't do that anymore, no more... like that's all they came to see me do and not really listen to me." That's just pure observation considering how quiet and shy he was as a person. He just looked like he really wanted to turn back time for a moment and wished he never would've done that.
