Im here for anything you want to share. The mental stuff and struggle is part of your journey. I am 8 years out and struggling with 40 pounds of regain since a back injury last year. I have for real been struggling with feeling like ive failed and its still hard to wrap my head around it.
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 3 года назад
I really struggle with the term "regain" at all, because bodies fluxuate, and most will get bigger over a lifetime--the idea that anything other than the lowest weight we've ever been is regain and thus a failure is such a toxic one IMO because it just leads to feeling awful.

Don’t ever apologize for your rambles! They seriously are some of my favourites, because quite honestly, so much of what you’re feeling is relatable to so many of us! I gained 40lbs from my lowest before he holidays(which was 153).153 is considered healthy for my height, but quite frankly it’s just NOT sustainable for me, even though it may be easy for others at my same height of 5’6”. They are not me lol and I am not them. I am and always will be a foodie, and an emotional eater .. my wls didn’t change that lol. It reset things and gave me a wonderful jump start to losing the weight, but it’s a constant fight and struggle trying to keep it off. I think 175ish is my comfortable range as my body just doesn’t want to stay below that. Again, I haven’t had my skin removal surgery yet, so that’s probably another reason why I struggle so hard to get below that. I’m not gonna beat myself up over it though because that doesn’t help at all and because of me being an emotional eater, it makes things so much worse. 1100 calories is absurd lol. I average around 1500-2000 per day too at MY height! Heck I even stuffed 3200 in me one day (felt awful afterwards of course), but this is going to be a lifelong battle for most of us. But there has to be some give and take. I was miserable at 392 lbs and I would be miserable eating nothing but salads for the rest of my life too. I want to enjoy life... and part of that is actually enjoying food which will always be a huge part of all of our lives. It’s not like smoking or drinking... we can’t just quit FOOD! Anyways... hang in there and keep up the great work! You’re seriously stunningly beautiful and STILL are a wonderful success story! 10-15lbs is nothing... I can poop that in a day! (Okay maybe a little bit of an exaggeration, but you catch my drift!) Much love girl! Always makes me smile seeing you pop up in my sub box! Even though I’ve been so sh*tty when it comes to commenting lately. I AM still here and not going anywhere 💗 Have a blessed week! 😊
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 3 года назад
Always lovely to see you pop up in my comments! I will say, I'd be careful in thinking that you'll drop/stay below your 175lb happy place after plastics! You very well might, and I *know* you have a LOT of skin to remove, but so many people (myself included) end up putting back on any weight they lost from skin removal, and I know that was something I mentally really struggled with, so I just wanted to mention it! And yes, exactly, it's all about the tradeoff and balance!

It's so nice to see you! I *owe* you an email but I was just thinking this past week how much I miss your videos. I understand and support your reasons for not making them often anymore, of course. ❤️ Edited to add: Yeah, it's not okay that medical professionals are advising people not to eat enough to nourish our bodies sufficiently.
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 3 года назад
Always lovely to hear from you, but no rush on the email--time continues to have lost all meaning, LOL. And yeah, I think I've been doing so much work on trying to repair my relationship with food that I was shocked to hear that number, even though I shouldn't have been...but that definitely doesn't make it okay, and it really makes me sad because they are absolutely setting their patients up for failure if they're telling people that it is possible to maintain a long-term 1100 calorie/day diet. That will inevitably lead to binging and regain and the patients blaming THEMSELVES even though they were given unrealistic standards...

I’m so glad to see you! I tell ya, this video hit the nail on the head. I hate myself for gaining 20 pounds and feel like I failed. It’s such a back and forth. Your dress is adorable and I love the mug 🌲🌲🌲
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 3 года назад
Always lovely to hear from you, too! It's definitely hard because society, and this community being what it is, it's sort of impossible not to see "regain" as some kind of failure, even though bodies are going to change. I'm really trying to get out of the mindset of higher weight = bad & a failure, because what does that say about how I view other fat people and my equation of being thin as somehow superior? It's difficult stuff!

Was going to add, that I am right there with you regarding the calories and what I have been told by the nutrionist. I had the surgery May 21, 2020. I have been at the same weight since the end of August. Mentally, I have no desire to do more to get me further down at this point.

Grace!! Hi 😊 I have been thinking about you a ton - what a crazy ride you've been on these past three years. I'm so proud of how well you have done. It is such a trip to try and deconstruct our views of diet culture, fat phobia, and self worth being tied into physical appearance. I so enjoy your thoughts on these things because they so often echo my own. I still find myself wanting to lose that last 10-20 lbs and I don't know if I'll ever quite be able to let that go - how do I live my new habits without being somewhat obsessive? I do not trust my own judgement when it comes to food and that is a weird distrust to have, but it is very real.

So glad to see a video from you! I'm happy to hear that youre happy with your surgeries. So many people pick it apart and we have come way too far for that b.s. I totally get about being in the community as triggering. I really struggle with content anymore but I do what I can and hope that it doesn't come off as wrong lmao 1100 calories?!?! No effing way! I eat around 1800-2100 but I also workout often. It's so funny that when I was big, I thought that cutting calories so drastic was the solution and now I'm eating more to maintain. Glad to see you're doing well and thanks for keeping it real!

Hi! So great to see you pop up in the comments. :D And yeah, I get that I might be working out more than many of the patients she sees, but even so, I don't know how they can expect that people will be able to eat 1100 calories forever and NOT have that lead to major issues with food! So interesting how the mindset shifts.

Annoyed about our Medical care in the states, yes! Went to Mexico for my VSG since I could not get insurance coverage but best decision I ever made. 7 years out and weight loss was one of the steps in my own personal growth. Taking control but being constantly aware of health will be lifelong. Someone recently mentioned had they found Keto prior to VSG they would have chosen not to have surgery. For me VSG was a tool that I would not have lost 120 lbs without. 1100 calories is bullshit!
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 3 года назад
Oh yes, there is absolutely no way I could have lost the amount of weight I did without surgery--I really think it's extremely difficult to lose the weight with diet alone. For me, keto would never be healthy or sustainable, and any weight I lost would inevitably come back on when I stopped restricting myself.

I'm happy to see you. I think if you are 5' 0" and a size 2 and not exercising then MAYBE 1100 calories are enough for you. If you burn calories and are taller and have a bigger frame, then that is NOT enough food to live on. The one thing I've learned in the past 4 years is l love food. I enjoy exercising. Now that I've lost weight, l can do more physically and enjoy feeling better and stronger. I will not just eat to live. I enjoy food but offset it by exercising each day. That is life. I'm shocked that they didn't tell you that if you exercise regularly you can eat more than 1100 calories. That's crazy. I'm glad you're doing well and Happy with how things are going. Stay safe🌞

Hi Grace 😊 so good to see you and you look amazing!!! Those new scars are looking good, and will continue to improve. When you said your doctor said 1100 calories I instantly said "that is BULLSH*T" I totally understand where you are coming from... it's nice to be able to move on from this "weight and body consumes almost every aspect" it does ease up with time. I am not the smallest I've been, but love how I look and feel and especially love that as long as I eat decently, I have no trouble maintaining. To me, that feels like a bigger win than the number on the scale being the smallest. (I hope that makes sense) I do hope you'll check in once in awhile, it's always so nice to hear from you. Take care sweet girl 🥰
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 3 года назад
Thank you!! I'm hopeful my arm and legs scars will get better, especially since round 1 scars are already quite light and are still improving as well! And agreed--I totally get why most people end up bouncing back up and settling at a slightly higher weight than their lowest as they find that sweet spot of feeling good and also being able to eat in a way that feels nourishing and not crazy restrictive! Yes, I could get down to my absolute lowest weight if I worked at it, but if the tradeoff is that I need to eat 1100 calories forever then NO THANK YOU! Great to hear from you as well!

It says my typical weight should be 155. It’s annoying because something like that can easily take away all your accomplishments. Not letting it though. I know you’re not into dieting anymore but I just found out about reverse dieting. It is supposed to help repair your metabolism and up the amount of calories you can have over time. I found it through Keto in the Chaos who learned it from Colin Dewaay if you want to check it out. I’m looking forward to trying it when I hit goal.

1100 shouldn’t scare you. Those stats are there and the weight gained is because of surgeries. Once you’re swelling goes down so will the pounds. Go talk to a therapist sweetheart. You feel lousy and you’re regression is here and food is the crutch. Check yourself, I did vsg and so much bs has happened to me and I’m still working on it, still lol, revisions skin infections, more psychological crap. But! But without it I would be dead, honestly dead. Food is not a priority, oh no! It’s a crutch! Alcohol, pills, you name it and it’s all because you are feeling a certain way. Talk to someone please. To get off track and keep this place as a learning forum to grow into you. The you that’s stuck inside because you look at yourself and feel weird, say goodbye to the rat girl embrace health. You’ve out do much into this! It’s taking me longer kid but tell ya something you’re doing damn good. Took you less that’s a ton of ppl here to succeed. Don’t digress from your journey just because you feel like crap right now. You’ll feel hella good next year cause you kept up. And thus is not a temporary thing, you choose it now live it, love it, can’t go backwards in lifestyle. I’m now 40 looking at you wishing I had done it sooner, just like you ♥️
