I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in June. I had to stay two days in the hospital because her birth weight was too low for the date she was born (almost two weeks after the due date).
After this, I tried to do a proper Chinese confinement of 30 days. In the end, it wasn't 30 days. You will see it in the video.
Chinese confinement is a Chinese tradition for the mum and baby to stay inside to heal and get more in balance again with the Yang side (you’re super Yin after birth) ☯️.
There are many rules according to the ancient traditional confinement rituals. Now in modern times, I choose the ones that feel right to me. It’s really about finding a compromise because a few of them are outdated by now.
My confinement entailed:
- stay inside for 30 days
- no cold food and drinks (that was hard the past couple of days when it was almost 40 degrees 🥵)
- only eat nutritious ”Yang” food
- wash my hair with ginger water and dry my hair immediately
- Keung cho (ginger vinegar treat) for the guests
- no AC and no fan directly on the baby or me
- let my husband, mum, and maternity care take care of me, the baby, and house chores, so I could focus on healing and breastfeeding (this took a while)
I added:
- placenta capsules
- belly binding
I really think these things helped me to heal so fast. I was waiting for the infamous tears (not that it’s bad to have them) in the first week, but they never came. I felt good with all the support I got and I am so grateful for that.
Also, I have to say that staying in has been easier than I thought. I’m so busy with my little nugget, unpacking boxes in the new house and enjoying our little bubble. Days really fly by. Nevertheless, can’t wait to have my freedom back in a week 🥰
Let me know if you have more questions about Chinese confinement. I don’t expect everyone to believe, support, or understand it. No need to. But at least respect it 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching ❤️
Enjoy!!
