Welcome to day 1 of the 30 Day Improvers Yoga Challenge. We begin with a 30 min power yoga flow for the upper body, working toward crow pose and tripod headstand.
No need to worry if that sounds intimidating! This challenge is all about teaching you how to progress towards these poses, so there will be plenty of options to help you modify and work to your level.
In today's class we work through a strong warm-up to strengthen your core muscles and then we move into a gradual sequence that builds with each round so that by the time you get to crow pose and headstand you will hopefully feel ready 🤞.
I hope you enjoy day 1 of the challenge.

I had to modify a lot! But when I felt discouraged I remembered it’s called an “improvers challenge!” It’s not called a “you’re already perfect walk in the park” 😂

OK, replying to my own post with the update after I finished Day 1. It was tough and it wasn't pretty, but I DID IT! I loved it and I feel strong. Modifications were very helpful because it allowed me to continue with the practice without feeling discouraged. Can't wait to see my progress by the end of the Challenge. Thank you Charlie! 😊

I'm 20 and lost any connection to exercising during my teens. Every workout ended up making me feel self-conscious about my body, weight, and strength as it always seemed to have this ultimate goal of training for the "perfect body". Recently, I was recommended to try out yoga to help manage stress. I've been following your videos for a month now, and I always feel so mentally relaxed and at home in my body after every session. I never thought that was even possible. Thank you for the great work, looking forward to this month! :)

I REALLY appreciate that you posted this early enough that those of us in eastern time zones could not only join on 1st June, but also could have a preview the night before. I live in Japan and assumed I'd just have to start on the 2nd, so I was really happy when I checked in at 10 o'clock last night to see it'd already been posted and I could quickly check through to see what I was in for. Can't wait for the rest of the challenge!

I've started to do yoga with Charlie's previous 30 day yoga challenge and I've been doing yoga almost every day of the week since. Today I realised how much I improved when I managed to do HEADSTAND pose!!! I am so happy and grateful to you Charlie, for being with us as an awesome instructor! ❤

Yesssssss I’m over the moon for this! I have a wobbly crow and a wobbly headstand but I really want to improve and feel more confident in those and I can already feel it after the first day

Wow; what a start! Those first twenty minutes were a challenge! I got very close to the crow and the headstand poses but have to work more on strength and balance. I’m glad the last ten minutes were slower 😊. The most exciting thing is that we were able to keep up with those first twenty minutes and that’s because we have become consistent practitioners of your yoga. Thank you, Charlie! 😊

My carpal tunnel had sidelined me for the last month, but my back began to hurt once again. So, here I am on day 1 feeling like a newby to yoga 🧘‍♀️. Hands numb, but my back is MUCH better! Ah well, tis life. Thank you so very much for putting out these videos! You're a back saver for sure!

Doing mostly intermediate yoga (at least they were claimed to be) I had so many expectations, I mean I expected a lot from myself… but honestly, the first day ended up with tears 😭 on the mat and feeling mad with myself for not being able to do either crow or headstand… im so proud (and envy a bit) of all those ppl who left the comment they hv done it… thank u, Charlie for the opportunity and ur time… have a blessed day everyone!

@@same5952 I donno, a lot of ppl say u can learn yoga from home, but for these types of poses (like headstand, tripod headstand, even crow) I hv a lot of fear in me… I live alone, in a foreign country, so there’s always a fear what if… I do it wrong, hurt myself and there’s no one to help or even call the ambulance in time… I hope that with time I will get enough confidence and strength, i hope there will be smth that I can do apart from pigeon pose 😂😂😂😂 but anyway thanks for ur kind words, and if I can’t manage this challenge there will always be the next one 😉 wish u luck with urs

​@@valerys7825 Maybe try those balancing poses next to a wall so you know if you tip forwards you won't fall. Yoga is wonderful because there is no end point: even when you can do a headstand there will be so many ways to keep progressing. So enjoy the success of trying and do things to make yourself feel less nervous, like practising near a wall or having cushions around you.

Hey friend, don't be so hard to yourself, this challenge is to make improvement. If you could do everything straight away you wouldn't be in need of this type of classes. For me yoga is a process of self knowledge. A couple years ago I couldn't even lift one foot during crow, took months of practicing it EVERY DAY to be able to fly it. I am one of those who learned to do these poses 100% from home but it takes a lot of self awareness and being mindful to achieve it without injury. I did hit my face against the ground once many years ago while attempting crow and that taught me where my limit was and never happened again. It's also true that we are not all the same and we don't have the same needs, maybe you do need company to attempt these poses but that shouldn't prevent you from trying the modified less dangerous versions. Let go of expectations and enjoy the ride, you don't have to prove anything to anyone and the worst judge of all it's usually ourselves. See you tomorrow for Day 2.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I used to be like you and then I work a lot on myself and I stopped to expect a lot of my me and I started to focus on the fact that whatever videos I am following is positive for my health, even if I don't manage everything and then, boom, progresses came so fast once I left the pressure off me ! I am over the moon. I completed everything, and I even lifted my knees off of my elbows in the headstand!! My mat had sweat on it, and my muscles were shaking. I loved every minute of it. Charlie, you are the best!

Thank you. Your instructions were clear and guiding. I practiced yoga on and off for several years (off for about the past three since the birth of my second little one) but one of my goals has always been to « fly » in crow pose. Thank you again for this wonderful practice!

I've been an "improver" in yoga since I started in 2018 haha! Sprained my wrist a couple of months ago and then moved house so haven't done any exercise in weeks and weeks. Today was the 1st day I had an opportunity to do some yoga and this video being on my home page was like fate! Was worried about crow because I couldn't do it even before I hurt my wrist so took it very gently and didnt even try to get my feet off the ground, just used this practise to get used to having weight on my wrist again. Perfect for a confidence boost and cant wait for the rest of the challenge!!

I may feel like 20 but am actually 53 and I was kind off intimidated by the 30min upper body..lol. Crow and headstand are still out of reach but it was a great work out, the rest phase was like a double whammy, because of the intense part before, and did miracles! I am amazed you can do all this Charlie and even talking us through it. Your the boss💪

Just completed day one. Thank you Charlie. Ive been feeling demotivated lately with hardly any time to practice, but I pushed through and I was so excited at how close i was to doing crow pose and handstand that i couldnt lie still for shavasana. Looking forward to these next 30 days!

That was one strong and sweaty first class, I don't know if I was ready but I made it and I managed to lift the legs even for a couple sec during tripod headstand. Thank you Charlie, if the challenge continues like this I'm sure I'll make a lot of improvement. Day 1 in!!

It was an amazing, supported class! It was the first time ever I did the handstand on my own. I felt so secure and safe while doing it. I will try to repeat the same class in the evening too.

I only started today because I haven't practiced in a long time and was afraid that I couldn't keep up. Well, I'm so proud that I was able to finish! This felt very similar to the first 30-day challenge and I'm really excited to continue! I can forsee myself not being able to do all 30 classes consecutively, but I'm looking forward to finishing them nonetheless. And thank you Charlie! This was the pick up I needed.

Wow, starting the challenge strong with crow and tripod headstand. Haven’t done the latter in a long while so not too confident. Will try it at the wall later to build confidence again. The pressing of elbows to knees seemed strange initially then when crow was cues, it made so much sense. Love the quiet intelligence in sequencing.

Starting late but intend to finish. I didn’t have cell service on my roadtrip, luckily I felt confident enough to take some of my favorite poses I remembered from your videos and created my own flow!! I’ve always felt like I needed a visual to follow for yoga but for the first time I had my own vision and was able to bring it into practice, Thank you Charlie!!!

Really enjoyed this first class. I am a little apprehensive about doing some of the more challenging poses but also know that if I don't practice I will never get there, so am looking forward to the challenge to move toward a more complete practice over time. I have been practicing yoga from your classes since months , trying to loose weight though I have gained muscle and flexibility. I m trying headstand with wall but on my hands as I am not able weigh myself on my head . Thank you for your wonderful classes I really enjoy and I can say I have improved a lot and lost in inches .

I got my feet off the floor in headstand pose for the first time!! I was going to stay in the piked position but then I just kept following your instructions and I was able to lift my feet for a bit with my knees tucked. I think doing the last challenge right before this one really prepared me ❤

I just love your yoga sessions... There are lots to chose from, you have a great calming manner & voice, some online instructors work too quickly, I love that you talk us through everything allowing us time to adjust & perfect our positions. I don’t want any injuries so your approach works for me. Xx

Enjoyed it, thorough going, at 74 managed to stay longer than usual in crow pose didn't stretch my neck more to be a crane today 🤣🤣🤣 Loved it, thanks Charlie for all your benevolent+hard work 🙏🙏🙏

I was never able to comfortably do anything adjacent to crow pose in the past. This was the video that helped me get really close. I felt so proud of myself just to get in a comfortable position and hover my feet off the ground. I was never able to get very far before because I was putting my knees too far up on the back of my biceps and my bony knees would dig into my arms. I found the sweet spot, having my knees in my elbows. I’m so excited to keep practicing and advancing in the pose, and gaining more strength in my arms. Thank you for sharing your videos, you help me to feel strong. 💪
