No, sixth mans are never glorified. There’s other sixth man type players with comparable numbers but we praise Manu because he’s a winner and clutch. But we all know he’s not the main guy. That would be Tim.
He is a star coming off the bench, a bench player does not stay in the game during crucial moments. He is always in the end game situations especially clutch moments
It is amazing to see how good he was at EVERY facet of the game. Nowadays players get praised for being good at two things (“he can shoot AND defend!”), and certainly the league has had specialists throughout (Rodman, for instance), but there was a time where players were prepared to be good overall. Manu is a great example of that: he was the epitome of what a SG should be coming from an era when that position was supposed to be the jack-of-all-trades on a team. Couple with his tenacity and resolve, it usually goes unmentioned how versatile he was. Certainly his crazy plays (a shot or pass) get all the attention but it was just his overall game: precise passes (where a player WOULD be), little switches to get defenders off balance, the gambles yet considered timing of steals, the angles he would approach blocking to minimize the chance of fouls, his excellent ball handling, his read of plays and the court, etc. even smaller things like his spectacular use of speed variations within a single sequence to keep defenders guessing. How many players nowadays grab a ball and simply think they need to run fast no matter what? The bats, the crazy plays, and passes will be the most remembered, but for anyone wanting to play bball well they could not go wrong studying this guy in detail. (Edited for typos and clarity)
Your views made me feel convinced that manu made pops greatness and not the other way around. Tim anyway said that in an interview, as pops used to change players, manu change him instead.
Manu's the only old player I've seen that never step down or change his game just because of his age. Guys like Ray Allen or Vince Carter change their game as they get older but not Manu. He's always aggressive and attacking the rim even though he's not that young anymore
The most notable thing is if you see tbe clock and the score every time he get a basket you will notice that, more often that not, is when the score is tight and the quarter is in the last minutes of 3 or 4. That is why he is a truly hall of famer.
Good point dude. That is almost never bringed to the table. Manus points and minutes where always important. Popovich used Manu when the game was rough or when the team was lost in the court. Manu is a TRUE LEYEND.
Dude was, and still is, a freaking wizard with a ball in his hands..... I wonder if ANYONE in the NBA has more Nutmeg passes than he does, lol... I cant remember who it was, but it was against Miami and Manu threw a freaking nutmeg WHILE the dude from Miami was on the run... SAVAGE!!!
He was a team player. He could be easily a starter in any another team and put better numbers. He accepted the role of being the sixth man. so his team can keep winning. He was not a starter but he was for sure a finisher.
Even at 40, he was the Spurs closer. Best decision maker. He was not an starter (because he wanted to help getting w), but he was always the finisher. Manu was special. Look at these highlights. Many players does not have these skills at their prime.
Manu SINGLE-HANDEDLY kept the spurs in and won sooooo many games both last season and throughout his career. he will always be my favorite player! MANU GINOBILIIIIIIII!!!!!
Manu was an absolute artist on the court. I think I can speak for most Spurs fans when I say we never took Manu or any of the Big 3 for granted over their careers. Such a pleasure watching them play. Manu 🐐❤
Ballin Too no order he not better Then 1.Jordan 2.Kobe 3.Wade 4.Jerry West 5.Iverson 6.drextler 7.ray Allen 8.vince Carter 9.james harden 10.reggie Miller 11.tmac 12.mitch Richmond 13.george gervin 14.david Thompson 15.pistol pete
He put his best effort to his team to the last minute he played. He's missed by his fans, his teammates and people who love the game of basketball. He's is a rare find. His was unselfish player all his career. He was a team player.
How could you retire when your still playing at such an elite level both ends of the court. His IQ for the game is unmatched. 💔 best 6th man of all time.
Kanye East I was gone say TP too. And I ain't say Tim cause I assumed that's who he's got as number 1...but regardless this guy don't know his basketball. Lol
i agree... damn they neverback down! achievement destroyed usa dominated U.S.A dominated NBA, Dominated every lebron james precious moments...show me player who doesnt like him!
a lot will argue with him being with jordan & kobe up there, but he is a way way better passer & playmaker than the two, no arguement with that, it is a fact!!
He was one of the all time greatest Spurs players to ever play , sad that he retired today but , San Antonio will retire his jersey one day in the At&T Center .. also best 6th man to ever play as well
I think he was better than Timmy in all honesty. Unpopular opinion here, but Timmy was allowed to shine as a result of having guys like Manu around him. Manu on the other hand could do it all himself. Kinda sad he never started as he was clearly a superstar level player.
@@Rafael-xt1nm It doesn't matter who starts the game. What matters is who finishes it :) And I cannot remember a Spurs game which was close, and Manu was available and wasn't on the court.
Ginobili just has that appeal factor in his game. Something that would seem like a boring move for 99% of players, Manu always makes it super entertaining. I could watch his highlights for hours with no end, that's just how exciting it was to watch him play. And I'm glad that I got to watch him play in his prime. My favorite shooting guard ever, now a Hall of Famer. Gracias Manu!
@@BoMuneyTV Look at efficiency, leadership.Manu is way better than Jamal. And he aged better too.As Crawford was aging,he was trying more and more tough crossovers and was taking stupid shots. And that's why right now he is a free agent and noone has (re)signed him yet.
He lacked the strength mainly and athletism of the icons of this sport, but certainly he managed every skill of the game while being fierceless, unpredictable and intelligent as few, he could have been an incredible Point guard. He accepted to play with a great quote of restrain in minutes and many times without a primary role due to his coach ideas...so he will be sadly never be regarded as great as he really was and maybe will end kind of forgotten. I really think that at least a couple of seasons with kobe in the lakers would have made wonders to his name in relation to fame and appreciation, but hell it is what it is and how the world rolls.
The most insane part is the quality of these footages could NOT be on the same. It explains well how long Manu had been highlight material during his career. Unselfish but could be a killer if we needed. The true player for sure.
I Saw this highlighs reel a lot of times, every time I get amazed by how good he was, and every time I elevate my vission of the game, my IQ. I from Argentina and I became a Basketball fan cause of him, I never played. By the time I learned a lot about the game, I cant imagine a life without the joy of basquetball. This year we have Campazzo, and watchout with Deck, he has a lot of magic, beatiful for us to have this players in the league. But Ginobili its something else, he is the withe jordan, and I think that he's maybe the better SG after MJ and Kobe, and then Wade. Of course you will never be playing that role on a Team, because he is a team player in a team oriented offense, also with TD, the greater PF of all time. Thats two could esaly destroy any defender, any team. Tony was special, but the magic was Manu and TD. Its no about the numbers, its about winning and spirit. So, te amo para siempre Manu, gracias infinitas!
All this Manu stuff happening, made me think how cool it would be to watch all the magical, creative players play. Magic Johnson/Pistol Pete, Manu Ginobili, Larry Bird, Hakeem, whoever else. Who I missing?
Cuando estoy bajo de espíritu veo videos de Manu para que me saque una sonrisa, indescifrable todo, dando pases, tirando para 2 o 3, cayendose, con el reloj en cero, era una fiesta !
How many times had I seen made an error on 1 side of the court, then redeem himself with a good play at the other end. He is fast to think what to do, than most average player.
I miss him so much. The ultimate example of a guy whose numbers scream "darn good career" but everyone who actually watched him play says "no doubt hall of famer"
i always hate Pop because he did not unleash the beast’s full fierceness and Manu’s full potential in his prime! He’s always been a killjoy on playing Ginobili!
Great video . thank manu for all the highlights and pure love of the game sacrificing for the spurs during his time , still schooling the young kids at 40.
It’s the end of the in San Antonio. 1. Tim Duncan retired 2. Tony Parker traded to Charlotte Hornets 3. Manu Ginobili officially retiring today It’s unreal I still can’t even describe how I feel about this
Al ver este vídeo me emocioné hasta las lágrimas. Es el mejor tributo para un gran jugador y excelente persona. Gracias por la calidad y el corazón que pusieron para realizar este material. Saludos desde Argentina. Go Spurs!. Go NBA!. Go Manu!.
@Iso UNGUARD able it's cool, I was just saying I watched him in that whole time and when he went head-to-head with Wade, he always had the better of the two he always got the best of Wade I'm not saying we didn't play good, but you know they always beat him head-to-head and every matchup he just totally got the best of him Wade had all kinds of problems with Manu
