The 30 Super Carry has gotten some attention but not nearly enough. This is easily one of the most promising cartridges in recent history. We do ballistics testing using Clear Ballistics gel to demonstrate how effective this little hotrod is. The 30 Super Carry is definitely a cartridge I would like to see adopted by other firearms manufacturers.

I am a retired Police Officer. I got a Shield in 30 Super Carry, then I found a new Shield Plus in 30 Super Carry. The Shield Plus has great sights. I got the new Equalizer in 9mm. I shot them both and enjoy the Equalizer but the 30 Super Carry has better follow up shots!! Not going to get rid of the Equalizer but will EDC the Shield Plus!! Thanks, started my career with an N frame Smith-Wesson and end my twilight years with the Smith-Wesson Shield Plus!!!!

I personally like the new cartridge. It has low recoil but the percussion is intense. 30 super carry is fun to shoot. I carry the shield plus 30 super carry with 16 rounds and one in the chamber. I don’t feel under gunned while carrying it and trust my life with it.

In Colorado, I have to put an ear plug in the bottom of the 16 round magazines to cut capacity to 15 rounds to meet our state's high-capacity requirements. Carrying with one in the pipe brings it back to 16 rounds legally. This apparently makes sense to some.

I've been thinking about the 30 super. Seems to basically be just another 9mm but slightly smaller. What I've been thinking is what if you down load the powder charge for the 30 super to make the recoil much less, then it could be basically the new and improved 32 acp without a rim to make feeding much easier and shooting far more pleasant.

Call it .380 magnum and be done with it. If the SC is guns are the same size as a .380, choice is easy there. If the SC pistol is same size as the 9mm, I'm sticking with 9mm. There's some very small reliable 9mm pistols these days. If/when SC becomes less niche rnd and costs come down, etc, worth considering in sub compact pistols for sures.

I would like to see this in a 4" barrel and compare the ballistics and recoil impulse. The other thing I would like to see being that it is a Federal round to begin with is some lipstick rounds for practice ammo. I bet that out of a 4" barrel that little bugger is trucking right along.

Personally I think 30 super carry is a step in the right direction when it comes to handgun rounds. 9mm 40S&W 45ACP even 10mm are not breaking 2000fps so its not causing a permanent stretch cavity so all you are doing is making a slightly bigger hole in your target. that is why shot placement is so important in pistols so I would rather have a smaller round that i can put more holes in my target.

This round seems like it would be ideal for compact and perhaps subcompact designs. I would say more for compact designs where having a few extra rounds when you are often limited to 6 to 8 rounds. 10 or 11 rounds would be nice. Also another consideration for compact designs is the lighter recoil. Since compacts tend to be harder to control in the fact that the grips are smaller, (esp those with larger hands) this should make follow up shots easier.

Sig 365 series, Springfield Hellcat, S&W Shield+, Ruger LCP Max, Glock 43, and it's variants. 30 Super carry would be great, but it needs to be more commonly available in compact handguns, as well as the ammo being more available and cheaper. Interesting ride down memory lane. Given the lack of manufacturers not named S&W, I may be interested in this caliber if and when more manufacturers compete in this caliber and also when there are more ammo manufacturers getting into the game. It seems that Federal is dropping the price on the 30 Super Carry as an enticement, and have also seen the Shield 30 Super Carry being offered online in the $250 range. Despite how attractive that may seem, I have a number of 9's and 380's along with plenty of ammo and just don't want to start up all over with a new gun in new caliber which might not make it long term. If I don't feel a 380 is adequate, then I'll just carry one of my 9's and call it a day.

I run Fort Scott Munitions 125gr TUI subsonic 9mm as my main defensive load and would be interested to see how a 115gr TUI 30SC stacks up against it. I have stated in other forums that 30 SC is the next evolutionary thing for the Micro-Compact stack and a half pistol segment allowing for Glock 19 & 17 capacity in a firearm that is 1/3 the size and roughly 5/8 as heavy. Now consider this for a moment if you were to chamber an honest double stack M&P 2.0 in 30 SC it could quite possibly become a 21 round capacity where it used to be 15 and then a 23 round in the 17 round configuration maybe even more. I am curious what the advantage would be and can you imagine what it would do for race guns that offer 20 plus round mags in 9mm, or what a 9mm 33 round Glock fun stick would now offer? I am also curious what advantage it would provide in a single stack like the 43X or Shield 2.0 compared to its 9mm counterparts. I am hopeful and definitely intrigued. Thanks for sharing.

I said from day one that SIG needs to bring this into its P365 lineup of handguns, a regular p365 would carry probably 12-13 rounds, the XL and X would have 14-15, and the new Xmacro would almost certainly be capable of holding a full 20 rounds, that's a LOT of firepower in those sized guns. And due to the 365 series being as modular as they are they could release both full guns AND slide, barrel, and magazine conversion kits that would greatly increase the P365's flexibility. I drool imagining an xMacro with 20 round capacity in a handgun just smaller than a Glock 19. The only downside is they would almost have to redesign their magazines to fit the round, due to its skinnier profile the feed lips may have poor retention on the smaller round, so we may see 30super carry magazines that look almost identical to 9mm magazines, but they wouldn't be compatible due to feed lip geometry. That would be a neat thing to check if you have the ammo and a spare 365 magazine laying around, maybe it already fits perfectly, but I'd want to check first.

Just as simple to throw in a 40 smith and Wesson barrel. Sometimes you can find some really good bargains on that ammo as well even cheaper than 9 mm. So you can use the same platform for three calibers and practice with whatever is the most cost efficient and then go back to your carry 357 to finish up training. Truly is sweet. Get all the practice you want in and carry the best in the unlikely event. If you like check out all these bullet points I put together.
@TransformersHoarder
@TransformersHoarder Год назад
Is 9mm equal to or superior to 357 Sig? Let’s think about that for ourselves for just a moment, shall we? I get it that some people pick a side and feel the need to defend their choice, but not to the extent of regurgitating pure nonsense that they themselves were misinformed on. Some ammo manufacturers actually have loads that even surpasses the ballistics of traditional 357 magnum performance. Underwood's 357 SIG Gold Dot for example. Also because it’s a bottleneck cartridge it has the added benefit of feeding more reliably than other pistol rounds. It’s flat shooting and will punch through auto glass like it was butter. It’s literally a 9mm projectile “except” because it’s 225-300 fps faster it penetrates most barriers as well as 10mm yet doesn’t over penetrate flesh, which is welcomed to aid in avoiding collateral damage. It has a flatter trajectory that in turn makes it more accurate and potent at distance. Though the penetration is no greater than 9mm in flesh, the cavity damage is much more devastating making it more likely to stop a threat with less shots. Underwood has a 357 Sig 65g Xtreme Penetrator round that exceeds 2250+ fps out of just a 6” barrel. I don’t know of any other semiautomatic pistol caliber that has rounds capable of such velocities from a handgun. It goes straight through a 3A panel even. At those velocities normally temporary cavities tear. One of the most attractive benefits of owning a 357 Sig is the ability to convert the firearm to 40 S&W & 9mm with nothing more than a simple barrel swap. You also normally can do a 357 Sig or 9mm conversion if you own a 40 S&W firearm as well. That means you can train on whatever platform you’re most comfortable with and whatever ammo is the most affordable, and no it isn’t always 9mm. That means that you are less hindered by ammo shortages… and when you’re done training simply swap out the barrel and ammo back to 357SIG and you’re all set. Sadly on a native 9mm firearm you don’t have any option to do a conversion. I never understood what’s not to like about 357 SIG… well other than ammunition availability and cost being the only negatives I guess, but it is the better round. Keep in mind that when you compare 9mm +P or +P+ to try to achieve 357 Sig performance, 357 Sig is actually cheaper than 9mm. When I searched +P+ to get as close to 357 Sig performance as possible, it was more expensive than a standard 357 Sig JHP round. 9mm +P+ is still only 1300 fps in 124 grain. That’s 50 fps slower than the lowest end 125 grain Sig round at 1350 fps and we’re comparing +P+ 9mm ammo here. Yet the bare minimum 357 Sig performance isn’t even achievable and this is usually attempted in a platform that isn’t even recommended for +P+ or even +P at times. I say it’s best to swap to a 9mm conversion barrel when training and back to 357 Sig right before you’re all done to finish up with 357 to cut that expense down. In most cases the recoil of any superior round can be overcome with training. I actually have little to no recoil on one of my setups. It’s compensated. You’ll find that comps actually provide greater compensation with 357 Sig compared to 9mm because of the higher pressures. I do understand that some people are recoil sensitive and are more comfortable with 9mm or other lower recoiling rounds. I understand some just prefer the thought of higher capacity. I totally understand your decisions. But let’s not bash any superior round because you prematurely decided on a specific one. Naturally shot placement, especially with pistol calibers is key… but under pressure understandably, your shot placement could be lacking. With that in mind the welcomed advantages of 357 Sig could easily make the difference between life and death, shot placement aside. There’s nothing wrong with 9mm it’s awesome, but let’s be clear… it isn’t equal to 357 Sig and the few extra rounds it’s capable of holding in a magazine over 357 Sig definitely doesn’t make it the superior choice. In time I expect 357 Sig to make the comeback that 10mm has made in recent years… For myself these 357 Sig advantages make 9mm less desirable. How about for you?

The minute difference in sound and recoil is irrelevant. It’s perfectly adequate to train with 9,40 and 357 Sig, especially if all the training is taking place with the same exact platform. I guess we will have to agree on disagreeing.

I'm sure it's a solid cartridge. That being said, I'm cartridge saturated. I don't need another cartridge in my rotation. Thanks for the share!!

just to be clear .30 SC is a smaller version of the 10mm, PLEASE MAKE MORE FIREARMS IN THIS CALIBER, it is the future, more ammo, more capacity, more of everything we need of handguns in the future. 'JUST MAKE MORE GUNS"!

I love these tests. Thank you MAC. Your my favorite. Did you ever make the switch from hollow points to the extreme defender?
@9mmthroatpunch211
@9mmthroatpunch211 Год назад
Those are only two I'll carry is the HST or the extreme defender and I'm thinking about making the permanent switch to the extreme defender because of what I've seen it do you don't have to worry about cavity filling and I've yet to meet a human that wasn't made up of some kind of liquid that the extreme defender can use those flutes to turn that liquid into Jets that cut through tissue

@@9mmthroatpunch211 I just switched to them as well. I like the velocity being able to get through body armor.

@@johnp9402 I didn't know they would go through body armor I haven't seen that yet I know they go about 1400 ft per second now I do have some 9mm civil liberty defense that go about 2,000 ft per second I know those can go through body armor but they don't stay together so that's why a lot of people don't like them but at 2000 feet per second it kind of don't matter because at that speed it's beyond the point of elasticity of flesh so it still causes one hell of a wound but I don't carry those I just carry the HST or the Lehigh extreme defender and like I said I'm probably about to switch to the Lehigh I have plenty of them might as well

I want to see more subguns or PCCs in 30 super carry. An MPX or MP5 in 30 super carry would be awesome. Even an AK version would be sweet.. Was hoping 7.5fk would be in subguns but looks like it sorta died.

yeah that capacity would be really good in really compact PDW type guns. Imagine an OG CZ Scorpion in .30 super carry
