From its launch in the late 1980s to this day, the TOS-1 remains one of the most lethal weapons within Russia’s arsenal.
The multiple rocket launcher can shatter enemy fortifications along a vast area and within a short range while mounted on a T-72 tank chassis or other lightly armored vehicles.
This devastating weapon was kept a secret from its initial conception in the 1970s to its deployment many years later. But as recently as late 2020, the TOS-1 was still in service and being upgraded into a much more modern thermobaric weapon…

I was a British Army soldier in the Cold War and we were taught that if we were targetted by these we could expect 70% casualties if we were DUG IN. Truly terrifying

Thermobaric bombs also have a peace time use.

"Katyusha" one of the deadliest weapons of WWII could carry up to 48 132mm rockets firing them all in under 10 seconds. The rocket itself had a double detonation design making them much more effective.

The shockwave alone will blow the flesh off your bones before you hit the ground. I had no idea they were doing thermobarics with rockets.

I was terrified by the weapon system but also amused to see it zipping around the trials course with the launchers completely empty.

There is no way he has thrilled us with so many competent videos and now thinks its pronounced chassis and not chassis.

I was station in Germany and in the field in Grafenwoehr we had a few 20 man tents set up. Sometime during the night a company of our version of this weapon set up about a hundred yards down the road. At first light they pulled the trigger and sent maybe 50 - 70 downrange not quite overhead. The roar was incredible. I've never seen tents empty so fast. That includes getting out of your sleeping bag on your cot . A bunch of guys standing around barefoot in their shorts and we all start laughing at each other about what we looked like.

I've seen this platform in use on the ground in Syria. Holy shit, it was terrifying. Russians do military hardware really well, especially rocket artillery and missile platforms.

All the cool kids will have them in their deer blinds this season. Who needs a 30-30 when they can have 24 rockets with thermobaric warheads on tap! Seriously though, those things look like they can unleash hell on earth where ever those rockets land.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention FAE use in WW2. Mario Zippermayr invented the concept and it was used extensively by the Germans in rockets and bombs.
