I built this 300 gallon tank in about a year. I salvaged the glass and most of the wood so it was a low budget project. I designed it around the materials I had. The pond seal epoxy was the only product I could find to seal the plywood and accept the silicone for the glass.
Trafish Aquatics has one as well but mine is quite a bit different.

Of all the wooden tanks on youtube this is the most beautiful that i've seen !!

Also, use a push stick when running the table saw for the small pieces. There's a chance you touch the blade and it delays the project that day. You can get one that automatically stops when it hits flesh and then you won't need a push stick. Use a credit card if you must.

Just exactly what I've always wanted to do in my greenhouse. Great vid

Also, get started right away if someone offers you fish because the fish need more room to grow. The fish will become impatient as the project slowly progresses. A blue crab from the river should make it about 2 months in there when you're done.

Nice tank. Would have loved to watch the build process in detail. Music was horrid so I used the mute button!

Also, you're gonna want to purchase all materials from stores. Don't wait a year to gather reclaimed materials from random places. Use a credit card if you must.

What type of glass did you use? I want to do something similar to this but I don't know where I could buy glass.
@dustintheriverrat
@dustintheriverrat 5 месяцев назад
I got the glass from a restaurant my company bought. I got a ton of free glass there and designed this tank based on what I recovered. These panes are tempered and almost 1/4" thick. You can also buy similar pieces online for about $90 each if you're wealthy enough.

what was the song specifically and how thick was the glass? did you reinforce with screws/nails or just silicone? also great vid

Here is the link for the song: freesound.org/people/BaDoink/sounds/532359/ Listen to BaDoink, Great music (I had the name wrong I guess) The glass seems to be about 1/4" but is second hand so I'm not exactly sure.

How’s the Tank doing these days. Would like to see an update. Been thinking about a similar project but space is the issue at the moment besides $.

The tank is doing well. I've had it going for almost a year now. Plywood is definitely the best thing for space and cost. I wish I could build another. Thank you for watching.

are the chemicals aquarium safe? quite amazed but wondering about it
@dustintheriverrat
@dustintheriverrat Год назад
Yes. Both the epoxy and silicone are aquarium safe. The epoxy is typically used for koi ponds and the silicone is specifically for aquariums. This epoxy was the only one i could find that claimed silicone would seal to it. I haven't had any issues and recommend both products.

How much did it cost to build?
@dustintheriverrat
@dustintheriverrat 11 месяцев назад
This was a pretty cheap build overall at less than $300. I based the design off the glass I recovered for free and snagged most of the wood for free as well. The hardware, paint, epoxy, etc. was to blame for the cost. I'm very happy with the end result but it took me a long while to throw it together. Thanks for watching.

@@dustintheriverrat lol while your tank is bigger than mine at the moment mine will be bigger than yours. I’m in the process of a 500 gallon after Christmas. But I still won’t put trees in it. If I wanted a murky moat I’d build a pond in the back yard.

I wonder if the wooden braces look so small, can't it withstand the pressure from the water
@dustintheriverrat
@dustintheriverrat Год назад
They are small by themselves but together these braces can support an Elephant. A gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs. That's only around 2,500 lbs. total.

@@dustintheriverrat First I thank you for your response. Your fish tank is very beautiful. I want to make one, but in my country, the wooden fish tank is almost never done, and is very primitive. There are very few references available
@stoneysscapes7544
@stoneysscapes7544 4 месяца назад
@@buihoainam6196the only reference anyone who is serious needs is in your hand! You also didn't mention where you are from? Any who, by a lot of people who live in a lot of different Countries that are also on RU-vid figured out how to get the materials and the rest I have to assume that someone is usually interested in having something interesting and they are typically successful in the end . Looks like you can get a bunch of things to do the construction. Everything has a price and it looks like the options are going to be very good quality and costs more up front , but it has been very well documented and I think it's better to do it for the future than try to cut the corners just to save whatever currency in your.... doesn't matter but the bible says cheap ain't good , and good ain't cheap . Primitive is exactly what you came across in your comment and I don't care either way , people have been enjoying luxury for a long time , wood is a renewable material depending on the obvious , but we are not so get busy building or get busy doing whatever it is. Lol 😊
