I’ve found every time I’ve gone to the Arken website, and there’s one I want bad, and I also talked my brother into buying one (he bought the same exact one you mounted on this rifle), but I’ve found every time I’ve gone there so far, they’ve already had 25% off as it is. Wish I could also use this code then I wouldn’t hesitate getting the EP5 I want.
300 Weatherby is a good example of a good balanced cartridge. The bullet selection we have today far exceeds what was available when Roy Weatherby bought the 300 out!
I have a Vanguard in the weatherguard chambered in 300 Weatherby. Mine shoots .323 with the 200gr Barnes LRX using H1000. I use it for elk, deer, and bear here in Montana. You will love it.
Great caliber, if you like this one who tee hoo try a 257 weatherby. The 257 you can soot all day unlike it's big brother but the can did get rid of the punch.
The 300 Weatherby has great long range power and flat trajectory, but it kicks like a mule and has serious blast. Most people can't handle it. That's why Roy Weatherby preferred the 270 Weatherby. He even used it in Africa on all sorts of plains game, as well as on everything in North America.
@@WayStedYouit was but he used the 270 wby a lot too as did John Wayne who was a good friend of Roy’s! I know because my old boss was best friend with the Duke and even his executor instead of his sons when Duke died! Roy was way ahead of his time in rifle ballistics🙌
So funny… I just bought a Weatherby Vanguard First Lite Cipher in 300 Wby. Mag. I also have a MeatEater’s edition 6.5-300 Wby. Mag. And it shoot like a dream! Of course, it has the Meateater Vortex scope on it. Was looking at the same scope you have for my 300 Wby. I also picked up the new Weatherby Model 307 (Meateater Edition) in 7mm PRC. Not sure which scope, but thinking of getting another Vortex LHT 4.5-22 Mil.
I imagine that you will handload for this. Factory ammo, as good as it might be, will be a general solution, even for a proprietary round like this. No telling what rifle it is going into. So, you change seating depth to be a little better and do your ladder test and get to the charge weight that has the least amount of change in MV or point of impact.
Impressive but I'd expect no less from Weatherby, Good shooting too btw. I was unaware that Remington made Core-Lokt 300 Wby Mag 180 Grain ammo so this knowledge will save me some $$.
What height are the rings? I got a vortex Crossfire 6-24x50 that I wanna slap on my 257 Wby not sure what the recommended ring height would be. I got a 0 moa pic rail as well. It’s a MeatEater Vanguard
Well, it seems my original comment was deleted, not sure why . I was just letting you know where you could find some 300 wby mag ammo. Hit me up if you want the details
I bought a Caldwell sled when they very first came out because a drunk driver almost severed my neck spine and now I have 2 metal plates in the front and back to hold my neck together😳 but I still am able to shoot and sight in the guns for my 3 sons who hunt each year before the season opens!
Good groups! I got my dad a Vanguard in 300 Wthrby Mag about 20 years ago. It wasn't terrible on recoil. It had the thin 24" barrel. I am curious if it is that much faster than the 300 WM. Maybe next time you shoot groups run it over the chronograph and see what kind of velocities you are getting. Thank you sir. Stay safe out there.
I have found over the 60+ years of hunting reloading and collecting rifles the Vanguards shoot better then the Mark5’s do at least in the almost 50+ Weatherbys I have owned over the years!
Had the hunt of a lifetime last year with the same rifle. Shot a cloverleaf like yours with 180 gr Interlocks. The bullets were dead on out to 400 yards. Bullets demonstrated impressive terminal performance.Core locks should be just as impressive. Man what a great hunting rifle. Got to love WBY
Hell yeah love ur videos brother and love these ones on the Weatherby rifles I'm fixing to get a 300 Weatherby mag myself...have shot the 416 Weatherby magnum before and it was an experience to say the least...keep it up bro
He needs a bigger more power scope longer barrel bigger can. 300 Weatherby all hold over teachings are ignored at least for the first mile. At least that's what the ads said in the 50s and 60s. Weatherby's have THUNDER BOLT POWER, blows game to pieces killing them INSTANTLY.😮
I call it Bullseye anxiety. You do it once and then get excited and absolutely have to duplicate it one more time. Then you pull a little here and there and freak out just a little. Bullseye Anxiety. Ask me how I know. I invented it. I perfected it, and then named it. LOL!!
Great groups is not surprising. The average Weatherby is designed to be a hunting rifle, not a benchrest rifle. With the slender hunting barrel you can deliver outstanding accuracy with up to 3-4 successive shots. After that, it’s time to let it cool if you going for top accuracy. In a target style or custom built rifle this cartridge is a precision instrument. It’s performance on elk size game out to extreme ranges is the stuff of legends. From early on, Weatherby didn’t really market themselves to the “average Joe”. With the proprietary nature and cost of their rifles and ammo, they ended up pushing a lot of consumers away. Apparently they didn’t care about that. Many hunters and sportsmen became more accustomed to the larger and more “common”companies, such as Remington, Marlin, Savage, Winchester and so on. Perhaps a lot due to this is that many weren’t as familiar or knowledgeable about what Weatherby had out there since the 1940’s, or the performance that they offer. The 300 Weatherby has as much advantage over the 300 Winchester Mag as the Winchester has over the 30-06. In addition, the Weatherby only gives up around 90 fps at best to the 300 RUM. Weatherby used to load factory ammo much hotter, but with good reloading practice, there is not a real recognizable difference between the two in the field. Many enthusiasts that were anxiously awaiting the RUM’s arrival in 1999 were doing hand springs and barrel rolls after discovering the impressive performance of the new super magnum. Still today, some of those same fellows brag of the ultimate performance & accuracy they have achieved. At times it is as if the Weatherby never existed. Perhaps a few of those fellows never really knew of the big Weatherby or perhaps they weren’t truly familiar. Regardless of what the misunderstanding is, the preference of the RUM or the Weatherby may actually be judged by the rifle type you prefer. Certainly, it’s not truly based on a distinguishable performance advantage, regardless of anyone’s newly discovered love. Good examples of some of the same phenomenon can be seen with the lonely 7 MM Weatherby mag. Emerging in the early 1940’s and performance along with energy levels more likened to a 300 Winchester mag, you don’t hear or see anything of it in any of the big publications available at the time. When Remington first introduced their version, it wasn’t until the 1960’s! When that happened, it was like the first time anyone had seen such a thing. Perhaps many even asked the question, why the hell didnt someone invent something like this sooner? 😂 The 7MM Weatherby never truly caught on with the consumer market as some of their other cartridges did. Please don’t let it fool you! It is a dynamite cartridge!
My 300 is on a BDL REMINGTON got her in the eighties. Got my grandson a 17 HMR on a Henry. Got Browning 270 Mark 3 for her next birthday she will be 16 in January 2025. Don't have a scope yet. If this scope can handle the 300 it can handle the 270 on a BAR. What ya think WHO TEE WHO.
Check your action screws it’s odd that your group size went from 0.82 to 1.82 that is quite a substantial difference in group sizes… love the videos WHOTEEWHO is the best guntuber that there is no bs
You have to take your time sighting in a 300 weatherby. Let the barrel cool down between each shot. That's what you'll be shooting with when you're hunting.
Did I miss something you are talking about recoil using a lead sled. If you don’t hold on to that 300 you will come out bleeding, with its speed it has serious felt recoil.
I have a 300wby it has no issue with whitetails here in Tennessee. It will jar your teeth but it holds the same hole at 100 yards with 180gr. I took a deer in the fall at 235 yards. I love mine
Picked up a used Mark 5 ultralight in 300 weatherby mag, came with the blast enhancement device (aka muzzle brake) and put the Arken EP5 on it. Had to trade a handful of pistols for it, but was a good trade.
20+ years ago, Walmart of all places were selling Vanguards in this caliber along with the same Remington ammo, so i bought one. They didn't have threaded barrels or brakes on them back then, so bench shooting them to get the scope dialed in was a mule kicking shoulder bruiser!
I am curious if you shot the Weatherby 300 mag with the break on instead of the can. Which takes out more recoil, the break or the can? Does the gun shoot any better with the break?
I have no desire to ever use breaks. I am already almost completely deaf. Seriously. In all of the shooting I have ever done I have never seen a noticeable difference in groups between a can and a break
@@WHOTEEWHO That must be disappointing when Mrs. Who-Tee-Who whispers in your ears and you can’t understand what she’s saying. The ability to hear clearly is one of life’s greatest pleasures.
I think it’s great when manufacturers realize the sales potential of excellent cartridges. Whether or not it carries the name of another manufacturer, such as Winchester rifles chambered for 7mm-08 Remington, or your Remington 700 in the .300 Weatherby Magnum. Plenty of other such examples, too many to name all of them here. 👍🏼
We use 3 lead shot bags at the range regardless of rifle caliber. Not sure how much each one weighs, but there is no reason to take the recoil punishment.
300 Wby Mag is my favorite elk cartridge. I favor the 175 Federal Terminal Ascent, 180 Swift Scirocco II, and 180 Nosler Partition. Norma/ Weatherby Brass, RL 26 (if you can find it), Federal 215M. I built my rifle with a 24” barrel on a Mark V Action. Rifle is sub 1/3 MOA (5 shot group). 1st cold will go from 3,276 (175 Federal Terminal Ascent); (3,254 Nosler Partition); (3,206 Swift Scirocco II). It has never failed exit. It has gone thru both shoulder ball joints, and ribs of a 6X6 bull elk & both shoulder 3/4 scapula shot on a Orxy/Gemsbok). Phenomenal Cartridge. I carried a 300 Win Mag for years. Still love them. However, you don’t have to push the Weatherby to high pressure to get the exceptional performance. Don’ t be surprised if the Remington Ammo chronographs slower than either the Weatherby or Norma factory ammo. Has to with brass thickness and working pressures. Other ammo manufacturers usually load Weatherby Cartridges down due to some non- Weatherby rifles were chambered without the freebore. This protects them legally.
One thing I noticed looking at costs of vanguard rifles, the 300 weatherby and 300 win mag are the same price. I've read articles for years that all say Winchester made the 300 win mag to make an affordable magnum on a standard length action.
