I got the Carveco software subscription because you recommend it....I love it....It works great with the 3018 to make 3d carvings.

Hi Roger, I have had the same machine for around 6 months and i have been very impressed. I cut 5mm Aluminium, 3mm carbon firbe sheet, acrylic upto 10mm. I did buy some tungsten flat bottom bit for the carbon and kept the feed to around 150 with a step down cut to 0.5mm per pass. I have a dust shoe fitted to a workshop vac, thats a massive help to reduce the dust etc. The spindle is ok, i have thought about and will be getting a larger unit and the 4030 is on my list. This is because of the 3018 performance so far, but i do think the set up and way you operate it has a big impact too. I use a laser cutter myself ( Piranha unit that i bought as a burnt out and refurb ). Id be interested in the 3d cut as i am looking at putting a curved bezel on one of my projects, im wanting to make a bezel for a 5'' screen from carbo, aluminum or Extruded acrylic.

I have the exact same machine. Very happy playing with it, but mostly because I bought it as a TOY, not as a serious tool. It cuts FR4 PCB nicely, plastics usually melt and fail. I was curious about wood, will definitely keep an eye on your videos, and give it a try as soon as I build a dust enclosure.

Roger, Try taking tool diameters into consideration when you do your layouts in your CAD/CAM software, as your total variance is within half a millimeter of your tool radius. I don't know about the inventables CAD/CAM software, but GRBL doesn't have automatic tool offsets in it.

Great videos, thanks. On your advice I have bought a CNC3018. I am enjoying it so far. The only problem I have is upsetting the neighbours with the noise. Looking forward to maybe a bigger machine, could you tell me please, before you updated the 3018 was it noisier than your bigger machines when cutting?

Very informative video as always! Quick question why do you use yellow lighting in your workshop instead of cool white led lighting? The yellow gives the video a yellow hue that throw me off.

Your circle was small because you did not do the second finish cut. You need to eliminate the second bit (finishing pass before you write the code )

Roger, enjoy your 3018 videos, question: 1.reference easel and grbl protocol, are these programs metric and/or imperial? thanks
@rogerwebb9600
@rogerwebb9600 4 года назад
They can choose to work in metric or imperial in GRBL and Easel.

Roger enjoy your videos but have a big problem trying to cut cast acrylic 3 mm machine gets half way through first pass bit gums up stops machine WHAT am i doing WRONG HELP Thank You Guess 86 year old man should not be trying to do such things ?
@rogerwebb9600
@rogerwebb9600 3 года назад
Acrylic can do that with a CNC router, it gets hot and sticks to the end of the tool and gums it up, I have used water to cool my tool down as it cuts.
@jamestobin2644
@jamestobin2644 4 года назад
You have got to eliminate the second bit that is for the finish cut if want. Your cuts would be too size if you had run the second tool. You created a second file for your square cut and again did not do the finish cut. I use easel for everything. It cost but saves a lot of frustration.

Why is it every time I go onto UTUBE I get the insane desire to buy something I don't need or already have in another form and end up deeply frustrated....that is the ADHD syndrome kicking in. Having just watched this video I'm champing at the bit to see who sells one at the cheapest price and after browsing for the 500 watt upgrade as an improvement..... 'cos you gotta improve all the time and it's better to improve at the beginning than the end..........I thought, why not build a much better one, same size with steel tube all welded, fully supported linear rails with ball screws and running with Mach3, under 500 bucks...........so I switched off and had a cup of tea......I already have a CNC mill so why do I need another one?
@rogerwebb9600
@rogerwebb9600 4 года назад
Hi Ian, one step at a time in two weeks or so, I will be fitting a 300 watt spindle that is good for 16,000 RPM, this one is 100 watts and 7,000 RPM. The 500 watt is way to big for this little router. In time I will be making a bigger one about 400mm x 400mm and then an even bigger one of 1000mm x 1000mm.
@gangleweed
@gangleweed 4 года назад
@@rogerwebb9600 I agree......maybe a 4th axis build using just a stepper motor and a scroll chuck would compliment the 3018 for some small jobs, but I think the 200 steps per 360 deg would not give you very much resolution hence the cheap ones on EBAY all have the toothed belt reductions at 1:6 etc.
