I like how he said he would gladly give his life away for her, yet commits a final act of betrayal against himself, the final sacrifice of his own honor and feelings. a husk of a person for his dream

I have never been so affected by a scene in a video game. It still does it to me every time. It's very profound but also obviously very sad. It's a perfect way to end the perfect video game story though.

you know mate... I kinda wish delta was the final boss of the game and wish Queen Ovelia can be recruited so she can literally destroy him!! I mean wow he uses everyone includes Ramaza and her... wow... I wish there was final fantasy tactics 2 so I can see this guy get killed lol...

Yes, I was initially shocked, sad, and pissed, then that mostly changed to, "Wow, the people who made this the story this dark and twisted and with this kind of an ending really had some major balls" lol. It's like the bad ending for Chrono Trigger, but there aren't 12 other endings this time. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iC_BUaKN3is.html

Delita "made it" but he betrayed and stabbed every single person along the way in the back. I think he might have genuinely loved Ovelia. But there was just no way she'd believe or trust that. Every fiber of her being probably felt he was going to stab her in the back sooner than later. Her reaction is sudden, but makes so much sense. Delita got what he wanted, but he lost everything else along the way, no one could ever love him after knowing what he really did.

Amazing story, gameplay, and soundtrack. What an incredible game. They don’t make them like this anymore. Triangle Strategy was excellent, but doesn’t come close to this masterpiece.

Late reply, but one game that does come close is tactics ogre reborn. Made by the same guy. It's pretty depressing though towards the end.

Damn, I hadn't seen the ending in awhile but Ovelia doesn't waste any time. No speech, nor does she hesitate. She goes right for it. Yeah she's trying to stab a dude in full plate armor but she probably knows it won't work.... does it anyway. She must have really had enough of Delita's BS by this point, but more than anything I think she was tired of life and was ready to check out. RIP Ovelia.

Ramza and Delita are two of the most compelling video game characters of all time. It's hilarious that this story is told from the perspective of someone far in the story's future having known King Delita as a hero, and to watch him be so thoroughly deconstructed and humanized. The most tragic thing about this story is that Delita is arguably the "necessarily evil" in his world, and we love and hate him for it. Would we have preferred any of the other contending powers to have taken Ivalice?

It took me years to understand what happened with this ending, before I understood how armor worked The armor probably caught the blade, so he was probably grazed at best, and only really fell to his knees because of what he had just done. He probably really did love her, she was probably one of the only people he was close to honest with. But the monster he became in the process of getting vengeance, arguably for them both, made her not able to trust him. Ramza and Delita were always fighting for the same things, The difference is Ramza never gave up his morals, while Delita went hardcore Machiavellian. While Delita thought he was swimming against the tide, Ramza actually was, and the price for him was enduring much personal suffering and being maligned by history, while Delita would be glorified. And even knowing that, Delita still envies Ramza in the end.

Agree to all of this. Delita did turn into a monster. And like I say in the description of this video, at 16 years old I was so sad at this ending because Ovelia's life was so unfair. She was manipulated and used, and the story makes such a strong point about users and those who are used. I felt so sorry for her.

@@FTTPlaythrough And thats the real tragedy of it, he (at least in part) did it all for her. The only person in the world he wasn't trying to kill or betray was her. I think once he found out she was a fake, she felt like a kindred spirit to him, a commoner caught in the tide of the nobles. She has just been used and abused for so long by so many people that I imagine by that point in time she was mentally unstable, and probably thought she had outlived her usefulness to him. It's tragic for all of them, really. Delita didn't want to be a monster, he thought he had to be, Ramza had to sacrifice everything to do what was right, and poor Ovelia and Alma were just victims of this struggle because of who they were related to (which is doubly tragic for Ovelia, who wasn't even actually royal) It's all very shakespearian.
@FTTPlaythrough

Yes that one scene showed he identified with her when he told her she was a fake. Then she realized Ramza was the real hero, and empathized with him more than Delita.

Spoiler alert: Ovelia actually survived this scene. She recovered physically but not her trust with Delita. She died much later on due to some disease. How did I know? Matsuno himself confirmed it.

Yeah I almost never get affected by it so when I do, in my opinion, it means they really did the story well. Delita is a cold narcissist and sociopath and it's sad to see people who are used by narcissists to this degree.

Delita is a tragic character. The loss of his sister spurred him on to change the world in a way that no one else could. He had to abandon many of his ideals in pursuit of that goal. And along the way, he also developed feelings for Ovelia. His promise to her was true, that he'd deliver her a kingdom. His words to Ramza were also true, that he would die for her. Ovelia likely held a place of devotion in his heart that had long been unoccupied since the death of his sister. But the betrayals he had to commit along the way took a toll. Ovelia bore witness when some treacherous words were exchanged. She didn't see that he had spared Balmafula, and had her and Olan set up to live free lives. He wasn't a monster. He was half man, half monster. But Ovelia didn't see him the same way after that. Delita's misdeeds caught up to him, in the worst possible way... And he reacted in the same way he'd practiced all those years. And he lived to regret it for the rest of his days. I'm sure he made a great king, though.

She stabbed him, and the monster took over. It all happened in a flash. And you can see his instant regret and devastation.

"Saved the princess to end the war Risen high as had none before Filling all with a hope for peace He’s the one, he’s the Hero-King of Ivalice (...) Used the princess to take the throne Closed her eyes n then ruled alone Risen high as had some before Killing all to exploit a war What’s the worth of a noble goal What’s the weight of a human soul What’s the price of a lasting peace Does the end justify the means" watch?v=UBxlrMfhdpg
