Not just in the US, all the great old cities in Europe have seen their apartments snapped up by formerly Russian and Saudi billionaires for short term rentals crowding out locals economically and physically. Its no different here except that it's backed by the same "financial instruments" that brought us the 2008 crash...

with the bright peaked ceiling, LEDs in strips, placed on beams would make for great indirect lighting. Otherwise I love the use of barndoors, sunroom and exterior.
