The life of a local doctor was cut tragically short when she suffered a stroke last week. Only one woman could bring all the people in this hallway together, with her favorite flower in hand: sunflowers. Dr. Maddie Giegold's adventurous life was cut short suddenly, just five days before completing her residency.

Look again and you’ll see the doctor lost 1/3 of the eyebrows. That’s a thyroid problem. First, it will give you carpal tunnel syndrome. Next it will give you a small stroke. Lastly, a big stroke.

man, her coresidents sobbing in the hall... that's just devastating. i'm a surgeon and i cannot, cannot imagine having to witness a walk of honor for my coresident in the very hospital in which we trained. residency is like a 3-8 yr long boot camp. you're pushed mentally, physically, emotionally to the brink, and no one really knows what it's like except your brothers and sisters in the trenches with you. that sort of bond is forever. to have worked with someone, studied with someone, scrubbed with someone, laughed and cried and ranted and vented with someone for all those years... to be on the very brink of getting out of residency and starting your life as full-fledged doctors, and then to have her suddenly go down like that... it feels so incredibly unfair. in some senses her life was just about to start.

Something she probably would have told everyone, regardless of which of the types of strokes she had, get things checked out. If you aren’t sure about whether or not you should see a doctor, see a doctor. Don’t wait. If you are having unexplained headaches, have them checked. Apparently there was some debate about the type of brain bleed. Regardless, a headache is a symptom. The American Stroke Association has information on their website. These are survivable but obviously immediate treatment is the key. Don’t ever think you’re too young for any type of health problems. Anymore there is no right “age” for anything. Don’t ever let any doctor tell you “you’re too young to be having…” Don’t turn yourself into a hypochondriac. That won’t do anyone any good. But know your body. Pay attention to what it’s telling you. This is the saddest thing I’ve seen in a while. She would have been an amazing mama. I could easily see her on the ground playing games with her little one and sneaking bites of ice cream to her. She would have wanted a little girl I think. She was an athlete and an honors student and a cherished member of the community she grew up in and the community where she worked. All of her hometown who could came to her funeral to celebrate her life. We did the same where she worked. I just wanted to mention it because she did incredible work and was beloved by all. There is no “age” for strokes or heart attacks or any other health problems. Unfortunately, for reasons I fail to understand “ people have been conditioned to believe that things like heart attacks and strokes only happen to the older population. And while it’s true to a certain extent it is not something set in stone. In fact, for some odd reason it was believed that only men had heart attacks (a completely archaic notion). If you are walking around in one of these things we call bodies, anything can go wrong with them at any time. Take as good a care of yourself as you can manage. Don’t think that staying away from a doctor will keep you healthy but there’s also no need to run every time you sneeze either. The very best thing you can do is allow God into your life. Allow Him to be Lord of your life. He loves you and longs to be your friend and so much more. He can fill you with joy and peace you wouldn’t be able to understand the why of. He can give you peace amidst tragedy. He can give you everlasting life. You won’t have to worry about where you go when you die. You’ll be in His presence. But you must admit to Him that you are a sinner who needs His grace. And then walk in that grace. Know every day that you have a love that no human can even come close to. He will lead you and guide you for the rest of your life. Whether you only have a few years left or whether He allows you a lifetime.

@tufalike1796 you cant be sure of whether a given individual has gotten a covid or any other vaccine, nor can you be certain that theyve recieved an mrna vaccine rather than a traditional one. however most of the world's population has been exposed to covid multiple times over the past four years- which is known to cause heart and brain damage even in mild and asymptomatic cases.

This is tragic & she had so much she wanted to do & give obviously. I want to say 1st I'm pro-vaccines & I've had the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. However, strokes seems to be the worst possible risk associated with the Covid-19 vaccines, especially in younger people, the 30s & 40s. The Astra-Zeneca one already got recalled & the number of strokes it possibly contributed to is higher than the others & apparently under investigation. If she had recently been vaccinated it could be linked.

I hope you are healing well, physical and mental. I had one last year as well. Same age. I’ve gone back to work as a hospital pharmacist. I’m told I was very lucky; I wish the same outcome could have happened here. I was brought into my hospital and transferred to another hospital shortly after. Obviously altered mental status but there was an odd trust and knowledge of those around me at my hospital vs when I was transferred out. If anything, I hope Maddie had felt the same around her “people” through all this till the end.

@JadeGem curious to know if you're vaccinated. I'm truly astonished at the amount of young people having strokes! I personally know of 2 under the age of 39 just in the past year. I'm 48. A decade + ago, I wouldn't hear of anyone my age or younger having a stroke. It was extremely rare, and usually secondary to some other medical issue. Now, they're much more common.
@JadeGem
@JadeGem Месяц назад
@@jessicawooding5442 Do you have statistics that these events are going up in younger adults or do you happen to see it covered more? Because the later doesn’t necessarily mean that the numbers are rising. It means people are reporting and discussing it more, or you are paying attention to these stories more than before (thank you). My vaccination status did not contribute to my stroke.

I was a patient in the emergency department. In my 40's I found out I had a brain AVM. I met a woman in her 20's who had a stroke. And yes, this was well before covid. It is a rare occurence (1/500K, in my case) but it can happen for all sorts of reasons like malformations, genetics, head trauma or some other cause, not seen with high cholesterol or obesity or smoking.
@JadeGem
@JadeGem Месяц назад
@@bengt_axle Same here. AVM. Just didn’t feel the need to mention it in my response because it shouldn’t matter. Stroke can happen at any age. Hemorrhagic more likely from these vascular conditions. As we age, the probability of stroke goes up due to health conditions, like diabetes and hypertension, that can develop later on in life due to lifestyle. That’s why the stroke stories skew more toward elderly. Trying to reason this young woman’s stroke due to vaccine is ridiculous. Here’s the bitter truth about my own stroke. I had COVID the week prior. And I had not prioritize my second booster due to the busy schedule working in healthcare. COVID didn’t cause my stroke necessarily but boy do I always wonder.
