Where's the guy that was talking trash about steve and said the SML would never make 3000hp without lifting the heads? Steve knows how to build an engine for super high boost and also cruise down the highway for a 1000 miles reliably.
I'm more curious as to WHO he is, not where he is!! I can think of less than 10 ppl on earth with more high hp engine DESIGN/BUILDING knowledge and expertise. And 6-7 of them are in their 80s and 90s lol These are $100k works of art, that can, and will, do WHATEVER you demand of them
From a design and engineering standpoint, the SML is equally amazing as the SMX is and to achieve over 3200HP in a reliable small block powerplant is definitely something that earns both respect and admiration. Hats off to you Steve. Of course our favorite chewy Dewey stole the show as usual. LOL Such a good boy. Cheers!
Still crazy how you are pumping so much air your vent louvers get sucked closed. Would be interesting to put a baro sensor in the room or manometer to see exactly how much the pressure in the room is right at the end as the louvers close. I doubt you are pulling a vacuum, or if so, long enough to make a difference today.... but in the future with these massive air pumps you are building / dynoing, eventually I think you will be pulling a vacuum and possibly will be effecting the output. Been years since I built cars and have no desire too anymore, but love the videos and all the tech. Especially how you share a lot of your knowledge for everyone. Keep it up man, thanksl!!
This is sweet to watch. The engine owner actually wrenches on his own motor to help with the dyno work. This shows how dyno's actually go, big HP is hard work!
Amazing power with an LS based small block (427?) with small 83mm turbos! You have reason to be proud of this engine Steve. It is a game changer just like your SMX has proven to be.
@@--_DJ_-- I don't know. The race tracks and tires can only be SO good. Know what I mean? Whatever it is I'm here to watch it and learn and be entertained. Have a good night!
SML with a Tick Performance TR6060 in Leroy would be killer. I use a Tick Performance TR6060 in my small tire Z32 with an ATI adapter plate and its been one of the best purchases ive made in a long time.
I love your attitude. You're smart and confident , but not cocky like another engine builder I watch. Previous videos you stand behind your work Your a top notch man. This SML and SMX engines are just mind blowing! The amount of work and design in them
Let's all have a moment to appreciate that this dude is at the top of the game, and sharing his secrets, when most people are🤐 As an Aussie can't wait to see your Barra rendition come to life! The record over here is de-stroked. Are you thinking de-stroked long rod or taller billet block in the future?
I got a feeling that the SML is going to be a big seller. Imagine how much time and money Cleetus would have saved if the Sml was available a handful of years ago.
It’s the price of 3-4 built tsp motors. It’s more about the peace of mind because that motor shouldn’t be bothered at 2k. That’s all Leroy would use for a very long time till he dialed in 1/8 mile alot
Thanks for showing the not so glamorous parts of a dyno session. And what's totally amazing: despite the tuning problems this friggin engine made CONSTANTLY around 3000 horsepower! 😲😎👍
Steve Thanks for explaining the head and block Water and Oil paths you build these Engines and you know them inside out you are always thinking out side the Box , Block so to say on how to improve on your exceptional Design of your Engines is no wonder you can make the Horse power you do well done and for all the information on the how to of each step in the build Cheers
Steve, you have a lot of guy's that build their own engines who watch all your video's. In your teaching you often talk about shop efficiency. If you'd look over all the little tools and fixtures you've designed you could market a lot of them. It's be a good way to increase your merchandise sales.
Steve! Great video as ever! Thanks for sharing the trials and tribulations of dynoing an engine, and showing that it ain't easy. But as ever with engineering and the wealth of knowledge you have, there's always a solution! Good job Steve! Good job Dewey photobombing the video! 🙂
You guys are so busy!! And always at the highest level 👌🏻 and yes 100K worth of engineering art that’s so strong! Thanks for so many cool vids Steve & Co 🏁
It's all about the process. Great look at diagnostics of solving the puzzle. Steve, you need to go racing soon, my brain needs a rest from all this learning. 😅 great video!
Just another freaking level. How the guy can pick up on what the motor is doing with that such high torque No's. and short sweep times, is unreal. Walking data collection machine
Hello Steve from Orlando!!! If you can remember in the staging lanes a big white dog saying hello!!! Ferox and Dewy would have a blast together 😂 Thank you so much for sharing your experience and expertise. I appreciate it and I’m sure thousands of others do as well.
@Steve Morris I used to work at Steve Schmidt racing, and the dyno room and race shop looked very similar to your shop. I know when I worked there, he sent engines all over the world to his clients. He was doing something right. And obviously you are doing pretty well for yourself! 👍
The proof is in the pudding right here! Everything just keeps getting better and better at Steve Morris Engines. Pretty soon people will be able to drop an SME motor in their everyday work vehicle and have a real sleeper vehicle. If I had the cash, I would definitely have an engine like that in my everyday driver. I can't wait to see the new engine for the wagon!👍🏼💯🇬🇺
"There's something going on here" x10 times lol. I get it. Did custom motor builds and tuning on classic porsches, efi conversions etc etc. It was always a battle. Always something somewhere and it was just a constant war of attrition until we had beat out every little gremlin. Good job
Hello Steve just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to always showing me something new just so you know I love the channel and I am saving all my $$$ I just purchase a racecar but I have to wait until next year for the engine but will reach out to you for that ones again thank you and god bless you and your family.
13:09 for my experience, anodizing is only done either as a visual component or for longevity. Anodizing is simply a very hard shell on the outside of an aluminum part. Not sure why some people would anodize and caps as I don't see any advantage to it
Dewey was sure loving him some pets from the shop visitor!! I can honestly say, I don’t think Steve Morris Engines would be as successful without Dewey’s help and supervision.
I see it now your going add a fuel gauge for dyno tank lol grease video what a awesome engine and super impressive hp numbers I hope one day I can drive something with that kind of power thanks for sharing
Looking at the exhuast vents towards the end of the pull, it looks like the room as a whole is pulling a vacuum. Tom Nelson ran into a similar issue years ago and fixed it by removing the dyno room window. I'd be curious if opening your door would change the outcome at all
Also the statement about the dyno grabbing the motor and not running away with it was a clear reflection of what the chassis dyno does. Change the controller to a yourdyno on the dynocom!!!. Love max from New Zealand.
Very informative and realistic. One question : how much wear on a new engine with 20 dyno pulls? Steve seems to have that covered as he is going to pull the pan and check it out. I guess that may be my answer. Many thanks.
Leroy with a SMX big block would be the bees' legs arms and knees! Stick wouldnt just be set, it would be rooted!! Not sure if it would even work with a manual and on a small tire but man it would be awesome to try and see!
I was watching a NHRA race a few years ago. While the driver was going down the track the blew up an a connecting rod cap came from the right side of the motor pass the front of the motor an finished traveling down the left side of the top fuel dragster. When time to race the next day the guys in the booth showed that video of the connecting rod cap going down the left side of the dragster.
The fact that you can see it sucking the air vent on the back wall closed during a pull is really a testament to how much air this thing is moving. That engine is a black hole.
When Steve made the first SML block i messaged cleetus and said you better get you one of them units… of course he never saw my message but Leroy would be on rails with one of those and some more weight added to the car 💪🏻
