Edmunds is only sort of right about that. There was a 2012 yaris sedan. I know because I had one. You could not buy a new one in 2012. They were not available at dealers. Toyota had a deal with certain companies to produce them for fleets, mostly rental car companies. If you see a 2012 yaris it pretty much guaranteed was a rental car when new. When the rental companies were done with them they sold them to the public. They only did this for that one extra year. This was the last year of this generation Yaris sedan.
