Around 1959 a Gentlemen developed a long-range cartridge for the US ARMY. It was a 30-caliber cartridge that later got necked up to 338 several years later. They are both great shooters and won 1000 yd benchrest shoots. Roy Weatherby died wayyyyy to soon. Your very close to the 338-378 not many are left to tell how they were made to shoot. The chambers had bullet specific throats. There were several articles in PS on getting them to shoot. I wish there was an archive of all those articles. It seems we relearn every decade or so. I enjoy your channel The young lady did a teriffic job.
I'm watching this video with a brand new QMM hat 🙂 thank you very much to you and Vickie. I believe was Erick Cortina that one that said "if Lapua doesn't make brass for it don't build it". Another great and interesting video Sr. and leaning a lot from you. I have never seen a piece of brass with double bottom or double primer hole, wow! Good luck and will be waiting for more on this "bad month" I know you'll make it work one way or another. Thank you and you'll be hearing from me soon 👍
Awesum content!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am on the edge of pulling the trigger on a new build.. you just saved me a TON of effort.. not to mention hard earned money!!! Grateful indeed!
Nice work and a really nice series. Learning and hypothesis testing is part of the game. Looking forward to the next videos. I will stick with my 223 for range duty. Big caliber = big $ and big pain the next day.
Scott, I think it's only a matter of time before you are backed up for a year or more for custom builds. Honestly, No one goes through what you do with these rifles. This is pride and honor full on!! No compromise to the end. What a builder!! Terry Hayden, Idaho
I knew there was some type of issue with the newer XC brass, but when you cut that piece in half, I was blown away! I've had my whole "ELR" team watch this series!
Just a quick note from a Canadian photographer/firearms enthusiast. If you want to shoot close ups of the brass (flash holes and such) two things that will help huge are a tripod and a macro lens. They allow for a much closer focus distance that most lenses. If you let me know the brand of camera you use I can point you in the right direction for a lens. Also wish someone like you lived up here I buy up junk brass for photos at 33XC is on my list 😂😅
The young lady did an EXCELLENT job. Please thank her on our behalf…. And well done having her do things that may be difficult. You are an impressive gun builder. I appreciate you putting out this content. The devil can definitely be in the details. Grateful to you for your transparency and unyielding attitude toward finding solutions. 🙏🏼
Currently drafting up plans on a build. This info was amazing!!! Not sure if it helps, but I liked and am now subscribed. I will also comment on each video if it helps. I think I'm going with 338 improved because this isn't the first issue I've heard about with 33xc. Primarily, the cost isn't worth the effort.... Again, thank you!
I always enjoy your videos and insights. I recently watched an interview with Bartlein where he thought that the 5R was gentler on the bullets. That might correlate to your findings. Keep the videos coming!
@@quarterminutemagnums🤣 I realize that wasn’t saying much haha. No I just mean I’ve been hearing more and more in the last few years a sentiment expressed that over stabilization is a myth AND that one should just opt for the most aggressive barrel twist possible because “it’ll shoot everything”. My own experience, very limited compared to yours no doubt, has been that while that can be true in the 6.5 diameter and smaller, it really isn’t further up. Both regarding bullet blow up in monsters like your 33 xc and even regarding accuracy too. Heck I have a fair bit of experience with plain vanilla 10 twist .300 win mags, the easy button for my shooting and hunting needs, and they really just do not do their best work at all with anything under 180 grains in my experience, and really come into their own for accuracy potential with 200+.
Dear Sir - Well said, thank you. She has the following memorized: The Ten Commandments, The Scout Law, Amendments #1, #2, #3 and #4 to the Bill Of Rights, Galatians 5:22-23 The Fruit of the Spirit, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, All 66 books of the Bible in order, Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life, The preamble to the Constitution and so much more that I can't remember it all ! ! ! Assuming we can afford it, she wants to go to Hillsdale and become a Constitutional Lawyer. Thanks...........
Nice video. Interesting analogy on "why" something just doesn't seem to work, Lot's of variables makes it more difficult. Good luck with it. Enjoy your videos.
keep the faith guys!! your doing a great job. Every once in awhile in lieges walk there is a major hurdle. However you will conquer it with flying colors!!!!
Dear Sir - Agreed. She loves God and America with all her enormous heart. Thank you - Dennis Prager; Thank you - Prager Kids; Thank you - Prager University; Thank you - Buck Denver; Thank you - to all the righteous men and women, past and present, who have worked tirelessly to ensure our children have virtuous role models to emulate. We can save this Country one child at a time. Thank you.
I have been using Peterson brass for more than a few years now and I have to say, it is shocking to see the brass you have been showing. Of course the brass I’m ordering is for standard calibers and have all been excellent. I really enjoy your videos and I hope you find some sort of resolution.
What you think about those mcquarter rifles? Similar stocks I noticed…6.5prc nosler I got 3 that the brass had seams in necks/shoulders that I missed and loaded anyway and definitely split when I fired em…probably should’ve pulled em but primers too scarce to not bust ones you’ve pressed in…Mr big CCI polo shirt…😉..you’ve had to went way under the table to have that…lol…j/ks aside hope all is well with the fam…thank you my brother….matt
Dear Sir - never had one in my shop, so they are probably o.k.? But, we get many well know, high-end rifles in here precisely because they don't shoot. Thanks...............
Dear Sir - My wife is past child bearing age, but if you know some attractive volunteers we will see what we can do - but seriously, take my wife please. Thanks...............
Dear Sir - Customer has or is going to contact EuroOptic. I do not know if customer or EuroOptic will then contact Peterson. I will pass any information I learn on to everyone. Thanks...............
At the end of all that journey, you'll be more knowledgeable and you'll be able to charge more to your customers, while being more efficient at what you do, plus your future builds will be more accurate and your customers will be happier. I have spent 200 rounds shoting my my last 223 build and it can't shoot better than 1.5 moa... After inspecting the barrel with a borescope, I realised I should have paid more for a reputable gunsmith instead of trying to save 200$ on a crappy job that my other gunsmith did... At the end of the day people like me will gladly hire a gunsmith like you and accept to pay some extra $$$ and get the confidence that the job will be top nutch! You are worth the extra cost I'm sure!
You are giving all this awesome information for free and losing a month’s pay. You should start a give a little page, it might help get some of your money back. If all your followers gave a just a little it’s got to help.
Dear Sir - I sincerely appreciate your concern. However, in my altruistic naivete I still believe in Truth, Justice and the American Way. Despite all evidence to the contrary, I still passionately WANT to believe that Honesty, Integrity and Hard Work will be divinely rewarded without any regard or concern for that reward. I WANT to believe that we reap what we sow and I WANT to see that manifested without my interference or manipulation. Thanks......
I doubt I will shoot anything with Recoil more than 32 Win Spec or 270 Win. One round of .300 Win mag while hunting, fine. Shooting round after round from the bench. No interest at all.
