They could have made at least one hour of those. The Maestro on his yard is simply the most magical thing tennis can offer. Fantastic video from the Wimby channel
There wont be another like him. We have had 3 of the best tennis players of all time in this generation trying to outdo each other. While Novak and Rafa are battering rams, Federer is an absolute artist on the court. His technique and shot range is unparalleled.
Yep, truly blessed to have been in the era of the Goat 3, but nothing can replace the game that Rog brought to the court, not rafa nor nole. There has never been a more satisfying tennis to watch than that of Roger.
yes on the old grass which they slowed down in 2002. And the fast court at us open which they slowed down towards end of 2000;s. Federer would almost be unstoppable. I think prime djokovic is maybe the only one that could beat him.
@@derrickc1353 not even prime Djokovic could stop him. By the time Djokovic started doing well on grass, Wimbledon courts were as slow as the clay at Roland Garros. Now it's a disgrace to old eras of fast grass courts. Federer is untouchable on even reasonably fast courts. Only age and slow courts were able to beat him. The slower courts brought extended baseline rallies. Fed grew up in a serve and volley era.
@@kwl189 I don't know. Djokovic never really played on grass when the courts were fast. Okay let's say slight edge to Federer at wimbledon. I do think with djokovic movement and speed that he would be ok on the old grass. What about australian open on the old green courts and Us open old courts. It would be close between those 2 very hard to tell. I do think Djokovic 15 is the only one who could stay with Federer under the old courts when they played quicker. Djokovic has an all-court game like Federer too. So hard to say. I give slight edge to Djokovic overall because he has a winning record against Nadal head to head and that includes clay court matches.
@@kwl189 Pete sampras used to dominate on even faster courts than 2000's if that's the criteria, wimbledon slowed down the court speed in 2001 tournament.
Me neither. And I'll go further. I can't imagine anyone doing anything as beautifully as Roger played his greatest points. Well, in my field, classical music, there was Jascha Heifetz, the violin's GOAT. Maybe he had some moments at the Roger level.
@@gregman1246 is he heck - hes got no real opposition but his time will be done soon. his recent results are due to having virtually no "real" opponents...
For real man.. what he did and the way he did it on the surface is insane. Shame how the courts have become less fast and allow for more baseline slugging.. literally what grass was known not to allow as much as other surfaces
Basically, just what I came on here to say... I understand Djoko will end up with more majors, but prime compared to prime... No ONE was better than Federer....
To go further (and no one may even read this) Federer's backhand, finesse shots, deception, athletics... he was the total and complete package. Djoko basically wins on athletics and power. Total respect, but Federer was much more complete....
@@peterw8532 They are both mentally stronger especially Djokovic. Fed's only weakness was his mental game and confidence. In terms of pure tennis talent I agree with the op Roger is the best ever.
This compilation is a great reminder for those who saw it and a glimpse for those who missed it that a confident Federer was absolutely unplayable. He may not have been mentally unshakable like Novak or Rafa, but when he was in the zone, he produced a level of tennis no one had seen before or since.
Watching this for umpteenth time especially after the Alcaraz Djokovic final yesterday. Apart from the wizardry what also stands out is throughout his career Federer never put his hand to his ear to jee up the crowd or flailed his hands up and down to demand applause. I guess he never had to. Whether he played an Aussie in Melbourne, a Frenchman in Paris, a Brit in London, or a yank in NY every game was a home game for the great man ❤
Prime Federer was just a machine, I mean from 2003-2009, 7 straight Wimbledon finals winning 6 of them and only losing to Nadal in 2008 who would go on to become one of the greatest of all time himself and Fed didn't go down that match without a fight either, losing 9-7 in the 5th in a near 5 hour epic
It's such a shame that he blew it in the 2nd and 4th set against Del Potro in the 2009 US Open. He was 3-1 up in the 2nd set and he was 15/30 on Del Potro's serve at 4-5 and was 2 points away from is 16th Grand Slam and becoming the first man to win six consecutive US Open titles in the Open Era. He was also 2 points away from becoming the first man to win the Surface Slam and the first player to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same calendar year since Rod Laver in 1969. He was all conquering but unfortunately since those moments a mental weakness developed and he struggled to win any further Grand Slams. He also never won a US open again. He should be the undisputed G.O.A.T but unfortunately he let so many critical break points and match points slip.
Those Federer-Nadal and Federer-Djokovic and even some of the Federer-Murray rallies were simply OUT OF THIS WORLD. So fast and dynamic. The highest level of tennis ever played. Don't know if we will ever witness that level again.
Federer at his best wasn't a tennis player...... he was a bloody magician. Unbelievable shots, his running cross court backhands are from a different planet !!!
I think what makes these shots even more amazing is that for the vast majority of them the opponent hit a number of great shots leading up to it, like they couldn't ask for a better shot themselves and yet almost out of nowhere Federer comes up with sheer brilliance time and time again.
I'm so happy I had the privilege of meeting Roger Federer in person, his such a gentle and lovely man😊 is my role model. After a little conversation, he gave me his private Gmail so I could contact him directly that was so sweet of him.
Esattamente! Lui tirava un colpo inimagginabile e imprendibile dopo che il suo avversario aveva solo un attimo prima tirato un colpo pazzesco senza scampo per chiunque altro. Ma non per Feder!
@Robert Le less slams than Novak Less masters than Novak Less weeks at no.1 than Novak Losing h2h Yeah Federer is GOAT now u r going to say stats don't matter right 🤡
The Big three each have their own area of greatness: - Roger is the most dominant. He has bageled the other two more (he has more bagels in general) and his wins are usually more comfortable with less games lost. -Rafa is the King of comebacks. He usually plays even better after losing and being cornered, fights after every point and has turned as round a match from being match point and set down and also a set from being 5-1 40-0 down. -Nole is the most clutch. He's overall a robot i.e having the most flat, baseline-grinding playstyle, mostly forcing opponents to mistakes or mishits but he plays consistently and he wins the important points. He can be worse than his opponent during an entire match, then win one crucial break point and a tie break and steal the win. His mental toughness is also unparalleled.
Will never forget that Wimbledon semi-final in 03. If my memory serves me correct, it was Rodrick who was probably expected to break through that year in what was a very open semi-final draw and a guaranteed first time slam winner. So to watch Federer win in straight sets with a brand of tennis I’d never seen before-I took notice. Then a couple of days later when he won the Championship combined with that emotional speech-I was hooked.
People that knew the game knew Federer was the favourite going into that Roddick match. It was just American media hyping up Roddick. Listening to Patrick McEnroe in those days was cringe worthy as all he'd ever talk about was how great Roddick was. Fast forward 2 years when it was clear Federer had emerged and all he did was hype of Federer. Not good analysis/announcing.
Federer was, is and will be the King of Wimbledon. I have been watching tennis since 1986.. Becker, sampras have been my favorites but Federer is a different level. His fluency, artistry, wizardry on grass is beautiful. The heartbreak of 2008, 2019 still hurts as a fan..
Most well rounded, versatile player for all surfaces, when it comes to skills and touch. Most versatile forehand ever... Always a treat to watch in repeat mode. Only a true genius artist can make a very complex activity look like an easy breeze and pretty. Federer is the true genius of the sport.
Roger exemplifies the word ‘Legend’ in truest sense. Keep aside his achievements, his demeanour on and off court is something which makes him a crowd favourite and a notch above his great contemporaries.
There are players that are efficient at the most, there are others that are athletically invincible, there are even a few that are all of that united with great technique which make them the most talented and the greatest recordmen of the sports. But there's one, only one, which on top of all that added the pure art. The joy of the game itself. The class! His records have been borken but his game will be there forever to watch. I saw him losing matches just trying to make the most spectacular shots instead of the easiest winners. He's my GOAT and any number can make me change opinion about it. He never played for the numbers he played to show he was the best ..., and he was
Just so friggin elegant it almost looks effortless. Playing these muscle bound power players with double handed grips battering it at him and he just swats it back one handed.
One of the Worlds most beloved athlete's and role model retires today only from his tennis career, to move onto the next stage in life! I cried my eyes out this entire night but I do really hope we get to continue to see Roger impacting the world with his charity and teachings as well as love for the sport. Onto the next adventures! ALLEZ ROGER! An endless sea of love and respect from a huge fan ♥♥♥♥♥🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Watching this reminds me of how we didn’t see shots like that before him. Other players started thinking about trying this types of shots after Federer but I don’t think anyone had that imagination or creativity before him. Just crazy stuff.
I wish Roger was still playing at the highest level. What a sublime player, what a gentleman, so well spoken and charismatic. He was the everything of tennis. Some people say the sport is greater than than the player. This is not true. Its the player that makes the sport great.
When Federer dominated the tennis court in the early 2000's, I thought it was the era without brilliant male players as 90's, an era without the players like Sampras, Agassi, Becker, Edberg, Courier, Rafter and other big names. I thought Federer could reach such success only because he was playing in a less competitive environment. Then, I realised it's nothing to do with the era and the environment, he was just that good. There were great players still, but Federer just surpassed them. And I'm glad that I had such a privilege to witness this legend in the last two decades🙂.
@@Mark-ut5oq But he also started losing to other guys he'd never lost to before in 2010. He kept having early Slam exits, having previously made 18 out of 19 straight(!) finals and 23 straight semis. It's very clear to me that something other than Djokovic and Nadal had an impact on his dwindling results. Either a lot of players got better or Federer after 2009 was less good at winning than before.
This video is pure gold and illustrates why Roger Federer is arguably the greatest player of all time. The shot making is out of this world! Brilliant player. Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal are also all time greats, but I don't think they can match Roger's unbelievable artistry if they tried.
If i had about 0.01% minutes worth of highlights like in this video I'd be extremely happy already. Just amazing seeing Roger play for the last 25 years!
Such an irreplacable talent❤️❤️ Proud to be youRFan Roger😍😍 Happy retirement Legend🐐❤️
I'm a Rafa fan. Hands down. But it has to be said, Roger at prime level has no contenders. Genius and the legs to run down anything. Nothing's ever gonna come close to a player like him. Yeah, djokers got lots of titles, Rafa's the king of clay and everybody else is just noise but this guy, oo my this guy had it all. Cool head, poise, demeanor, attitude, game, class, IQ, legs. Master of masters. Will miss him play honestly.
I remember seeing him play for the first time on TV with my dad. I said this guy is Sampras only much much better. Turns out I was right. Federer played tennis on a different level.
There's no way to put in words how much this man represents the essence of this sport, that is called tennis. There has never existed, nor will exist anyone at his level of perfection. Think of tennis, think of Federer. Call him goat, call him whatever. Him playing, is the reason way this sport is beautiful to watch.
I will never get tired of 10:16. Federer saves his third Championship point against Nadal to get to 8-8 in the 4th set tie-break in the great 2008 match.
They called him 'The Maestro' amongst other relevant names, because he had it all. It wasn't as successful as the other two but on his day, every shot was at his disposal and it was a beautiful thing to watch. That is what made him special imho...
Tennis fans all over the world will miss Roger Federer in action. Wish to see a next generation junior Federer in the near future. Wishing all happiness and good health in the the years to come. A golden era comes to an end
Eternamente único !!!!!!!!!!! Magia, elegancia, reflejos increíblemente tan naturales, sobriedad, ....... Nadie, absolutamente nadie tiene ni tendrá sus "genialidades". Un enorme placer disfrutar su tenis. Millones de gracias !!!!!
One of the things that stands out is his incredibly staying power, so many big names he played against who were just brief flashes at the top compared to Fed's long stay at the top.
