Call Nole the goat all you want, (and fair enough, numbers are in his court, and his mental toughness sustained over this many years is insane) but for sheer entertainment value and in terms of being able to consistently find new ways to play a winner, it was and may always be Federer. Unreal.
@@kking3875 k. Gimme someone who was as good at finding as many interesting ways to pull off a winner and I’ll take you at your (literal) word. I mean seriously, I would love to find someone in that sphere, I’m not against it. Shoot.
@@21crus1 ask most tennis fans what do they care- record breaking, titles or elegant playing style . In fact you dont even have to ask just use common sense😂
Forget about who has won the most tournaments etc. What makes Federer the GOAT is quite simple, he played the game on a different level to everyone else.
Agreed. Federer wasn't as consistent as Novak or Nadal (although they had age on their side for sure), but at his best, he was just so good to watch, and just impossible to play against.
Being the GOAT is a matter of achievements my friends. MJ, Brady, Messi, you need to achieve the most. Federer had the highest peak ever but Dhoker has had a 12 year peak. Federer will always be the most beautiful and fun to watch, but its ridiculous at this point to say he's the GOAT because you don't like the guy who had robotically dominated everyone on tour for 12 years
@@kalorakalora Whoever said I didn’t like Djokovic, I think he’s a fabulous player and off the court he’s a gentleman. However when you pit his skills against those of the genius that is Roger Federer, there’s just no comparison in my opinion.
Set up a Tennis Court and Tournament in Middle of Oymyakon Russia and Federer Would Sell Out The Venue in "15" Minutes...NOBODY Moved The Needle in Tennis Like Roger...His IMMENSE Natural Talent and "IT" Factor Was on Another Level...He is The Most Beloved Player in History of Tennis
No one can replace him. Djokovic is The GOAT by stats but Federer is the cultural impact more than anyone eles in the last 30 years , he is the biggest ICON and he inspired people His style is elegance , effortless , unpredictable , entertaining audiences , the most popular player for slmost 2 decades
Fast courts, low bouncing, pure ball striking. Like his matches against Agassi, incredible tennis. A different beast in his prime with that movement and shot making.
Sometimes he did audibly grunt in close matches during what proved to be the final point. Most of the time what grunting he did could hardly be heard at all, besides when he was serving
Federer played tennis from the Gods, no one has even come close to playing the game in such a way that others could only dream of , he simply played for the love of the game and guess what he didn’t need to get constant coaching after every single point because he was the genius not the coach.
Agreed. Though making a selection is awfully tricky. For instance, I'd have included that ridiculous Wimbledon backwards running squash shot (or whatever John called it), or the famous Wimbledon passing return against Nadal. It's like choosing 10 min from MJ's or Tiger's career.
What makes Federer so great is how unprecedented he was. He achieved something that simply no man before him did. period. Sure, djokovic broke the records laterrr, but that's because there was a crazy record to look forward to. Its like Federer invented the iPhone. while Djokovic simply made the iPhone 2. (3GS) Sure iPhone 2 is better. But its Federer who revolutionized Tennis.
Uhh what? Sampras had like 14 slams iirc, players have been stocking up on slams to determine greatness for many many years. Fed didn't invent the wheel, just took it further than anyone had before him, and now Djoker has taken it even further
Every point has its own greatness. Its hard to say from what ive seen in 50 years of tennis fan who is the overall best. Borg, Vilas, McEnroe,, Connors, Becker, Lendl, Agassi, Sampras, Murray, Del Potro, Nadal, Djokovich, Roddick (155mi/h service) Federer...Undoubtedly Roger is the most charismatic by far. But they all were outstandingly great players!
The GOAT is not about elegance and beauty and aesthetics. It's about lifetime achievement. This is why the entire ATP tour has already stopped this discussion and admits Djoker is the GOAT, only fans swept up in the elegance of Fed still try to dispute the definition of GOAT. Yeah, Fed will always be my favorite and his tennis is poetry, but Djokovic is undisputably the GOAT because he achieved the most over his career
RF is a true master in motion. Watching him carefully contol the court and then deliver mercy with final placement put away shot. Leaving his opponent nutered is tenis poetry
I've never admired and respected any athlete as much as I do Federer. It truly was a sad day for me when he retired. I really havent had the heart to support another player yet.
Federer had style. He could make playing look so easy that watching him you would think you could do it. And you would be soooooo wrong. Style and class.
Kyrgios can give Djokovic all his flowers but he knows he put his all in against Federer. Mentally and Physically. He had something to prove against Fed.
Loved watching this, but hate the comparisons coz I have loved the big three for yrs.. RAFA, ROGER N NOVAK...for different reasons, but mostly coz of their superb play! No need to compare n right now just acknowledge tht Nole is still doing it n winning!!!❤
Fed had broken deeply Sampras` records of 14 GS by 20GS. He had been standing alone at No1 with no opponent too long until gets old. And not much motivation for him. Nadal and Nole are different, they build the Big 3 era. They never feel alone in the top.
Why does it always have to come down to being a competition over who is the goat? Why can't we just appreciate the amazing tennis that we have seen over the last 20 years from 3 of the greatest players? I'm a Nadal fan, always have been but I can appreciate how amazing Djokovic and Federer have been. The only thing I'm sad about is that we're never going to see anymore epic matches between them anymore.
As great as all these players are, and they are truly great, I much prefer the way the game was played in the 60's and 70's. Today, every player has the same game, essentially, their forehands are all the same. In the "good ol' days," there were PERSONALITIES, and those personalities were evidenced in their games. MaCenroe, Nastase, Roswall, Lendl, Conners, Borg, etc, etc,.... their games, styles were totally different. The games far more interesting. IMO.
No doubt fed is the most elegant to ever do it. Hands down the biggest icon of the sport and the most loved. Goat? Debatable. But there’ll never be another like him.
I am a amateur tennis player and would love to play Federer. The match would be over in less than 30 minutes but it would be the best half hour of my life!!! P.S Roger, Rafa and Nole bring (in Fedex's case brought) different attributes to the game. I love them all!
3:33 That's Federer right there, makes great volleyers look like they have sausage fingers. 🤣🤣🤣 Also, half the people in this vid were not smiling - that's what crying inside looks like.
I'm a Fed fan forever, but you gotta stop saying Roger is GOAT since Nole has broken ALL RECORDS and is still going. I mean I know we are huge fans, but we thought 16 or 17 slams would be unbreakable record, and Nole broke it big time... And while we were focusing on Roger, Nole set impressive records while doing it. Nole already had way more 1000s than Roger, so did Rafa. And the streak records, 3 time career slam, a calendar slam. And Nole won most of his GS in a short time, most after age 30.... I'll forever love Roger for his style of play, the drama that he brought that popularized the sport and enhanced competition, the emotional moments I felt watching his matches and comebacks.... But if Rafa or Nole BROKE HIS RECORDS, I'm not gonna MOVE THE GOALPOST and still keep claiming Roger is goat... If anything what Nole and Rafa have done is MORE IMPRESSIVE results wise than Roger, because the field is so much stronger since they arrived, and Roger didn't have the same level of competition during his 04-07 prime years. Having to battle Roger and Rafa and Murray, all prospective dominators is WAY MORE DIFFICULT than Roger's run where there was no strong number one contenders; Roger battled Hewitt, Ferrero, Roddick, etc.... So stop with the "Roger is goat anyway" talk and just say Roger is FAN FAVORITE, because that is subjective and certainly cannot be disputed, even Nole would agree and say Roger is the legendary Michael Jordan of tennis and will always be loved.
The Fed Express the best for me I know Dokovic has broken his records & hat off to him for saying stuff you to the Covid poison but the Fed was amazing
Some aren't really smiles, for example Kyrgios at 3:41 At 0:57 there is Benoit Paire before he decided to have his Hipster look (and I would say he is much better without a beard or at least shorter)
