I turned my coat closet into a pantry. It’s in the living room but I’m the only one that opens it. Now I have more space in my kitchen. I should have done that long ago! Seriously!... a lot of space just for coats that can go in a bedroom closet or get a coat tree for when guest come over.
Avoid round storage containers. They just waste space. Look for square and rectangular ones instead. Also, the space above the fridge is also usually wasted. I have 2 large decorative bins on top of my fridge that I use to house infrequently used and seasonal items. I also bought a nesting/stackable set of pots and pans. (Curtis Stone Durapans) All of the pots and skillets, except for my cast iron heirloom skillet have 2 short helper handles, so they take up very little space in the cupboard and are safer on the stovetop of my tiny kitchen.
be careful about storing things on top of your fridge! they often block the heat from escaping and will make it work so much harder than it needs to, killing the fridge and the money for your electric bill 😅😅
Saw a home once that had a pulley system that lowered a hanging shelf from the ceiling. Pots, pans, larger cooking utensils, crockpot, stock pots and miscellaneous things. It was amazing.
Some of these ideas tend to create more visual stress -- those hanging baskets or open storage. I think going through your kitchen items and decluttering multiples is one way to avoid having to use some of these hacks. When things are stored in the open they get dirty, especially in a kitchen where there is a lot of oil and dust in the air that settles on utensils in open containers. The little wire things you put in shelves to create more storage space are really great, though, and you can buy them very inexpensively at Dollar stores...if your kitchen absolutely lacks space, though, these hacks can help. But if there is little storage and no wall space, declutter like crazy first. In Julia Child's kitchen reproduced in the Smithsonian museum of American history, I recall green peg boards that cover at least one wall and hold all sorts of pans and utensils. Her kitchen would have had to be SUPER workable.
@@johnclaybaugh9536 you could store some of your kitchen appliances on a tall shelf in a corner of the living room perhaps ? You can put different more attractive things on it also to balance the feel of it ! That's what I'm gonna have to do ! I don't use my bread oven or my blender every day !
@@agemoth I said nothing about any of that. I was just commenting that decluttering many times isn't the answer. Your comment doesn't really make sense as a reply to mine. Also, in a studio apartment storing kitchen items in the living room doesn't always work.
Wow what a really great idea. I'm glad I read your comment. I have had 3 tissue boxes(empty) I have been holding onto because one has a nice saying and the other two have a neat design and I did not want to get rid of them but I did not know what to do with them, well now I do. Thanks for sharing.
This is amazing!! I don't know about the US but here in Australia we have a saying and that is 'one bum kitchen ' I literally have a one bum kitchen. My daughter has to wait until I get out of the kitchen so she can do the dishes. So yes we definitely have a tiny kitchen lol. Some of these idea's are perfect for us😀😀. Thank you so very much and God bless 🙏 😁😁
I live in an apartment which has a dishwasher that I don’t use because its very loud so I use it to store my pot & pan lids in it plus other things that I don’t have the room for.& it works out very well. Some people store their dishes, glasses, cups & silverware in theirs.
Seriously thank you! So so much! I am about to have my second child and we can’t move yet because of the housing market so I need to reorganize everything. I’m so grateful I found a video with ACTAUL good tips and hacks!! I have put about 20 of these in my cart and will be buying them over the next couple months while renovating my kitchen. Thank you thank you!! Also don’t worry I used your links! I am so grateful!!
@@zowoiyo Nobody's having space for more cabinets in "tiny kitchen". And this video should help them solve this problem, most of the views come from people who read "diy" and haven't thought they'll have to spend 100$ on something.
When I bought my Keurig coffe maker, I never once bought those indivigual plastic coffee pods. (8:00) They are terribly expensive (hundreds of dollars in a year, add it up). Also they are horrible for the enviroment. Instead, get a reusable pod. About 20 dollars but you can use it forever. I got very use to it in no time. Much better than trying to find space for pods, for many reasons.
We are moving from a large kitchen to a small one. We have a small rolling kitchen cart with 2 cabinets and 4 drawers. The top folds down and can be expanded for extra counter space. We have a pot rack that hangs above it. I have found some useful ideas here to organize cabinets, like using the inside of the door and using magazine organizers..
I bought 2 of those long strong magnetic stainless steel blocks from Amazon that stick to the side of my fridge for my knives. I didn’t want to put a lot of holes in my wall. I love them
The knife on magnetic wooden strip is nice idea...but def not so nice if you have kids. They gonna climb onto the counter and reach for the knives. A sure trip to the emergency room.
The under counter wine glass rack is a horrible idea. I have broken 3 or 4 Riedel glasses by being in a hurry and lifting a pan or plates into the bottom of the glasses. I was thankful that we didn't put our Waterford on them. What a mess!
Great video! Lots of great tips, however I will not buy anything from Garnet Hill this Holiday season because of their obnoxiously continuous interrupting ad every. Five. Minutes.
Thk you. Very helpful ideas. I did not like the Target ad that I could not skip away from. I would rather have heard more.....of your video uninterrupted!! Ahna
I have a medium sized kitchen but I cook daily for a large family and my biggest tip to cut down on space is get rid of the large oven with stove top. .....I was sick of my large stop top taking up prep space than when it became faulty rather than calling a repairmen I fulled the stove and oven combo out and my husband nailed to chopping boards together for more prep space and I bought a $50 single induction plug in hotplate and a glass round camp style oven. When U don't need them U just unplug them, they use way less energy and apart from making a giant batch of cookies I can make everything else I need to with these two items. Buy a steam insert so U can boil one vegetable and steam the other at the same time.
Great video, I keep my knives in a pull down knife shelf under my Cabinet . I keep my knives in my rv on a magnetic strip, out of the way but always where I can see & use. I have been using lazy Susan in my Cabinet for spices and vitamins for over 40 years.
Some of these ideas seem like they will take up more room, what is up with the heavy fruit basket in front of the oven?? So you can dodge falling oranges and apples while removing something hot?
My kitchen is small but I have a large empty space next to it. I bought a garage shelf unit (surprisingly attractive) and that's where I store my small appliances except for coffee maker and air fryer. That leaves my limited counter space available for actual use!
