343's Questionable Halo Infinite Progression System. 

Overall I really like the emblems and the aesthetic of them however, I really hope 343 considers adding more rewards to their proposed Halo Infinite progression system. Exclusive weapon and armour coatings would be a great incentive over just emblems and nameplates.

Imagine if the max rank gave you a shoulder piece with the max rank emblem engraved in it, I’d be willing to grind like hell for that

Emblems to me feel very lazy, we just need earnable armor that displays your dedication & skill level to the game, heck maybe some coatings, weapon models, armor effects, or even some vehicle models. Or they can split a full set of armor through the levels, for bronze you get a helmet, silver you get chest armor, & etc

Not being retroactive is very upsetting to me. They could’ve at least offered something. Emblem, visor, xp bonuses, credits. Something. But to get absolutely nothing after putting in 18 months feels like a slap in the face. It will actively diminish my enjoyment.

There's honestly a sizeable amount of stances, armor, coatings, etc from previous seasons that haven't even been released. Those should be added to the progression system to give people some material reason to play

I’m honestly disappointed I don’t get some kind of XP boost. I stayed dedicated to this game and outside of some cosmetics, it’s as if I’m booting it up for the first time ever come season 4

i really wish they gave you some credit for the playtime we already put in tbh. I could totally see it capped in some way but starting from scratch for what seems like a really large grind after a year and a half just isn't going to be motivating for me especially with no rewards

I mentioned this on FootedGhost’s channel, but I personally think that the progression system would’ve been the prime time to reprise the Mark VI (GEN III). The progression system would then have an armour core unique to said progression system, but a core that people are familiar with. People get the core early on and unlock armour pieces/sets overtime.

Im not at all surprised that after nearly 2 years, the progression system is still launching unfinished and without rewards. 343’s ability to create content at a snail’s pace and STILL release it either buggy, underwhelming or both astounds me.

Random idea that I thought of for each tier you rank up: Bronze = Bronze Coating Silver = Silver Coating Gold = Gold Coating etcetera etcetera. Armour and weapon coatings included, it'd be a good step forward. Hell, you can have some sort of animated coating on the higher tiers such as Onyx / Hero to show off the true bling

Blue flames or something would be nice for max rank. But the lack of rewards is disappointing.

Love the look of the ranks. I'm also on board with getting some unique rewards for each tier. A badass armor coating....or a badass weapon model per tier, would be awesome. Definitely need SOMETHING worth the time.

343 must honestly sit at a table and just think to themselves..."hm, how do we get people to play less? I know! Let's just give them emblems for career progression, no retro-activity and xp-boosts don't count".

I just noticed Diamond Master Sergeant is the same emblem as Diamond Gunnery Sergeant 0:25.

WTF... I have something like 1,900 matches played in Infinite. The fact that people like me are going to start at the same rank (level 1) as people who don't even own the game yet is absurd. Definitely does not make me excited for this addition whatsoever.

Thanks for keeping on top of this Mint! It's really disappointing that players that have played since the terrible launch and stuck through all the rough times get DIDLY SQUAT for it. All those colors and skins we were there to get? No, they're all in the shop for anyone to get. All the free stuff from completing each season? No, anyone can go back into previous seasons and collect them. What do we get for standing by a trash game all this time? Exactly nothing. 343 really needs to stop pandering to "new players" and give their long time players some love. Loyalty begets loyatly and apathy begets apathy.

We already complained about having nameplates and emblems in event passes, why they thought this would be a good idea is beyond me.

Very disappointed that there won't be any retroactive xp. I get that they don't want people reaching max rank as soon as the system launches, but I feel like having retroactive xp and a level cap would have been fair, maybe capping people somewhere in silver or gold. There would still be a tonne to grind for, but it would also reward people who've stuck with the game beforehand.

I hoped we'd receive some coatings for our Rank, if not armors. Nameplates only is a bit of a letdown. I also would have liked the progression to be retroactive so that the hours I spent after finishing the various BPs were more meaningful

Pre and post-game lobbies PLUS map voting, that’s a huge step forward imo as well

The horrible part about the emblems as rewards is, that we know how 343 is going to handle it. It is going to be the very exact emblem on lets say Rank 30 as it is on Rank 40, but for a different weapon. Which is just ...unaccaptable.

If the emblems are just going to whatever rank we are is that not kind of pointless? Cause realistically the only time anyone is going to see any of the emblems we use is on our player card and if our rank is actively be shown there anyway what’s the point?

I vehemently disagree with the decision not to allow double xp to count towards career rank. I have like 90 saved up specifically for this. Feels like a slap in the face considering everything we had to do to get these…. Including buying pop tarts or whatever

Cant wait for this! Hopefully they'll give us better rewards for progressing through the ranks, maybe like in game upgrades such as more xp per game and skins for gun and emblems etc.

they should make the max rank reward the skill visor from the haunted helmet from halo reach, i feel like if the skull was a visor i and other people would use it more if we had it, i always use the mark 6 helmet when i can

The final rank should of been hyper lethal

On rare occasion, I would like to play Infinite but I will not forgive 343 for releasing another incomplete game. I would be more inclined to return if they release a few more developer made maps (some of which are remakes of Bungie maps), return of classic vehicles/weapons as well as equipment/armor abilities (only DMR without a scope this late into “Live Service” is ridiculous), a Forge World type map (big and different terrain, I would love for a combined Forge World and Forge Islands remake), pre-game & post-game lobbies (ability to see Spartans similar to Reach), and a little experience in Custom Games/Forge. Yet somehow my minimal expectations are still too much for 343 Industries. All I truly want is another big MCC update with the rest of Halo Online’s content and Xbox One & Series X|S mod support.

Yeah coatings everyone major jump, or like a full set which you unlock, so at silver you get the legs, gold you get the chest, platinum you get the shoulders and onyx you get a helmet would be cool.

Be cool if they did like a whole armor set with each tier giving you a piece with the final rank giving you the helmet or something or maybe the final one being a costing. Each incremental rank on that tier could be some kind of alt for that piece.

If there was rewards, I'd love to start at level 0 and work my way through them. Because there's no rewards I feel they should retroactively add ranks.

I want retroactive rank! 🤯🤯 I've already logged 8000+ games! I've invested so much time into this game, and we should get credit for every game that we've played 😭😭 The thought of starting at zero makes me feel dead inside 😵😵

One thing I would like is for ranked to have 2 different modes solo queue and team comms. I solo queue and definitely have a disadvantage playing teams that communicate.

You nailed it Mint. Players will definitely grind out a ton more hours if there are prestigious rewards. This leads to higher populations and ultimately more shop traffic. It's a win-win. But 343s stance of not implementing armor unlocks (due to F2P and the need to sell ALL armor) is Lose-Lose.

Congrats. We’ve all been playing a beta for the last year and a half.

One idea for the rewards would be to give an emblem for reaching the top of the first class in each major rank, a weapon skin for all weapons for the second class, and a skin for all cores for the third class. This way, you could show off your rank and class at each major milestone, and could be rather simple to impliment. Just make a simple skin with a metallic main color that only really changes the color between ranks, so for instance bronze gives you a bronze coating, and onyx gives a shiny black coating. It would give people something to work towards, give some free cosmetics that can be earned, all without making too much more work for the devs.

Why they can’t recreate the reach ranking system is beyond me

max rank should give you the halo reach helmet with the skull inside but make it equipable to any core. or make every starting helmet get that skull as a visor color

Kinda pissed it’s not retroactive, I have almost 3k games played and there’s no nod or acknowledgment for the players who have kept playing when the daily player count keeps dropping

I've said it a million times. All we need is the og h3 ranking system and just make it slightly harder to reach lvl 50

The fact that they only thought emblems should be the only reward for playing their sub par (as usual) Halo title says all you need to know about them. This is your reward for waiting a year and a half for a feature done better in every single Halo title, even 343's trash games. All that matters is the money and the shop. They don't care about any of you, drop this game so that it may improve in the future or, if they are so incapable of providing us with a return to the days when Halo was king, shelve it and leave us with MCC.

Im so excited i havemt really played much since season 1 but now that theres progression besides a battle pass ill definitely ve grinding to hero like in H3 and reach !

So for the ranks I hope they allow us to put it on our character. Instead of an emblem it be cool if we could put our rank on our spartan to visually show off how far you are up in the ranks (again like an emblem.) But I would prefer it to be place on the shoulder (whenever you wear chest plates or chest armor it can block the emblems on the chest). And I do hope they plan on adding more things to make grinding the ranks more worth while because rn it kind of feels more like a participation. Award

I think one of the problems here is that we've had several battle passes, unique events, and 3rd party LTOs giving weapon and armour customizations. When we look at Reach, the customization was tied into this progression system as a core part of the game. Now that we're getting a new system, that is similar in many ways to systems from the past, how do we motivate ourselves to embrace it, knowing full well that it might never be the same as in previous titles. Could they cut ties with the battle pass and shift the rewards? Certainly, however that doesn't fit with their business model. It will be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few months.

I do have a question, am i still gonna have to use something like halo tracker to see all of my stats? I hate that u cant see any of that info in the game itself... Hey Mint, I don’t know if you’ve heard of anyone else having this issue but I haven’t been able to change my stance, emblem, or clan tag since launch

Am i being stupid or are the grades for each of the ranks the exact same?? How would we be able to distinguish if somebody is corporal grade 1 vs corporal grade 3 for example?

Hopefully adding these ranks and wanting to make them visible pushes 343 to realize we need pre and post game lobbies. But all things considered l, game is slowly getting better and better

I think the IsCapped code line could be more related on Maxxed player yes no more exp, if not, there goes those sweet numbers to go up

What they should’ve done for max rank is give you master chiefs armor core. That would be something to grind for

343i needs to implement some level of unique, custom armor for the major progression steps. This will satisfy EVERYONE, whether they're paying for battle pass or not, and it will not deter from the battle pass. People still want different sets of armor, weapon skins, A.I skins and voices etc. But everyone should be able to show off their rank with a legitimately cool armor set that you earn over time, or at least really cool colors that go with each rank, one set that revolves around themes bronze, silver, gold, platinum, onyx etc. SOMETHING. Don't mess this up 343i.

It’d be sick that for each tier, you get a set of armor with the theme of the Tier Bronze armor Silver armor Gold armor Diamond armor Onyx armor Hero armor :)

Hey mint would you post your controller settings or at least the sensitivity and acceleration?

They should port the inheritor helmet or the Hayabusa helmet if they ever add a max rank reward. Kinda silly that they don’t already plan on having some kinda armor for ranking up

With the battle pass and seasonal mini BP (winder update for example). It feels like there are a lot of rewards in the game already. Additionally returning players will have multiple battle passes to choose from and complete. Maybe instead of the 30 level seasonal BP they can add those type rewards to the progression system instead. Also, I wonder how long it will take to get max rank shorter than MCC and H5 or about the same?

I wish they would’ve released the Gen3 core that chief had, and you’d unlock pieces for that core as you levelled up. Would’ve been cool to see the Halo 3 helmets remastered with infinite’s art style. We can’t be asking too much, can we?

Guess the 50ish double xp boosters i have are gonna continue sitting there being wasted rewards then.

Each rank of a tier (cadet, captain, general) should give you a weapon coating of that tiers material (Bronze, silver, gold) with the last being the armors coating

Having a progression system is a right step but they should have more unlockables or exclusives for hitting ranks. I remember playing Halo 3 and I seen someone with a Hayabusa helmet I knew he was just as much as a sweat as me because I also had it !!! I know unlocking it was through campaign but let me tell you anyone who has attempted it will tell you that it was a pain just to acquire the helmet which ment that person dedicated hours to get it. Halo Reach had nice progression system even tho stuff was unlocked with points you buy certain items until you were a certain rank if im not mistaken? But yea great for 343 and us players but would love to see more unlockables mainly exclusive un-buyable item in this progression system.

Overall the actual system is nice, but definitely agree that more tangible rewards for each 'colour' rank-up are needed, and not sure how I feel about not getting any bonuses for playing the last year and a half, but I do appreciate that they went with military ranks, that's nice

Bronze silver gold diamond and onyx SHOULD be the Weapon Skins for each tier

I think having a shader that reflects the rank would be nice, like once finishing bronze ranks you get an all bronze shader etc.

I’m so happy everyone is starting at level 1. The progression system wouldn’t be fun if you’ve already leveled up a ton and didn’t even know it.

I am so incredibly glad they havent done the dumbass new trend of resetting ranks every seasons. I grinded COD cold war up to prestige 2 in season 1... I was heartbroken to see myself stuck back at level 1 again on Season 2, never touched that games MP again

I just hope they add armor coatings and weapon skins per rank, and that they change so you can get a small amount of xp when playing a custom game or a forge gamemode.

This simply reminds me of Halo 3's rank. You just play and will occasionally go up in rank. This only shows people how much you've played the game. And that's all you need to do. Just play the game. There's nothing special about it. So I don't think we need crazy rewards for it. It might incentivize playtime, but I would much rather have unique armor pieces/sets locked behind achievements just like Halo 3 did. This way you would actually have to do unique feats in order to get them. It might be quite difficult for lesser skilled players, but for anyone involved it's so much more rewarding when you do get the harder achievements. And achievements can be manipulated to promote certain playstyles. With a full warthog, capture the enemy flag. Get rewarded with some shoulder pieces or arm pieces. And it'll get people to be more efficient in these games that turn into infinite slayer. Win any game of Free-For-All. Get rewarded some kind of helmet. Maybe the Reach helmet with the skull inside. This kind of reward system makes me feel better like I'm doing something. Which is why MCC disappointed me. You gave me an achievement log but it's completely pointless.

I 100% agree with a bit more rewards. The six rankings should have an armor coating of even a br coating to make the grind feel a bit more rewarding. Hope they add something!

There should be 1 coating per color rank and 1 arnor peice per rank. So youll unlock a full det a several colos by max rank

ranking up should honestly just give store credit points. like every 10 levels is 100 points. that would be really nice incentive right there

I like this game but I find it funny how reach is still the best system we've ever had, that game came out like what? over 10 years ago and had a system that they still can't best

I am having a blast playing HALO recently is just in a great state. So much fun.

personally i'm glad there is not big rewards unlocking a rank, because im kind of tired of everything needed to be a grind. this rank system is more focused to show how experienced you are in the game, either if it is in time investment or in game skill. maybe a bronce, silver, gold, platinium, diamond or onyx coating can be enough for me.

No retroactive rank is unbelievably deflating for me. You have no idea how insanely cracked i was at the game before. It was so much fun to constantly get on with my friends before they stopped playing and now im horrible because of the SBMM. (Which i still detest with a burning passion) now hearing that im not even gonna be compensated for it is killing me to hear.

I'm glad it's similar to what been using on mcc. Not fussed previous games don't count, No doubt a few things that will need adjusting, leaving feedback in a positive way will result in better changes

Mark VI Gen 3 armor pieces would be a neat reward as you go up the ranks. Some proper incentive for a change. Not just emblems…

For me i like all of it except the rewards, some exclusive coatings or armor pieces would be amazing!!
