Hey Guys,
In today's video we install the engine in the 350z and attempt to start her for the first time! This has definitely been a process from first getting it, to finding out that the engine was blown, to going out and picking up a new engine, to now when we are hopefully going to start the car for the first time and take the first major step in gettign her back on the road! Hope you guys enjoy!

Love the videos. I'm swapping an auto DE into a g35 rightnow.. something basically. Having so much trouble getting the motor back in and lined up with the transmission. Would you suggest putting it into the engine mounts first then play with the transmission or get the transmission bolts in first?

Hey bro did you ever disconnect the drive shaft to when you put the engine back in?

What do mean? Like after the everything was put together or while I was putting the engine back in? If it was putting the engine in, yes I had it all the way out of the car

I have a question and would really appreciate your help! I just swapped a 2004 DE engine into a 2003 DE 350z and used the harness of the 2003 on there is that a problem? Also everything is in plugged up correctly and i am not getting any signal to my OBD the car is not cranking at all! Already checked fuses and relays, car cranks when i give it direct power to the starter however it doesn't fully turn on, yet it does nothing when turning on with key from ignition, really frustrated any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
@KyleHidalgo
@KyleHidalgo 2 года назад
No there shouldn't be any problem using your old harness they are both non rev up engines. Hmmm one thing I would probably start with is to make sure your harness is fully seated into you ecu and to check and make sure all your grounds and power connections are properly connected and grounded because it sounds like you're not getting any power at all. You should at least be getting lights and power with the key in the ignition. Also did you check if your battery is dead?
@omarbermudez7234
@omarbermudez7234 2 года назад
@@KyleHidalgo I was actually getting lights on and everything just no cranking or any sound at all but I got it to start by giving direct power to the cable that comes from the fuse box to the starter but now I am getting no signal to the obd scanner has no signal and it won’t turn on just by turning key

I’m literally the engine mounts away from starting my g35. How did you position it to drop in? Because my engine is connected to the transmission and everything but the mounts are off by literally an inch and then i can start it. But any tips and help will be greatly appreciated
@KyleHidalgo
@KyleHidalgo 3 года назад
Did you drop it in with the transmission already mounted? Or did you somehow manage to bolt them together after dropping the engine in? I would say, without seeing it, I would probably try to get a jack under the transmission and then the picker on the engine and lift the transmission and engine up just enough to even them out with the slightest angle to be able to push it back and clear the sub frame to get back to the mount holes. You just have to be careful not to smash those steering rack lines. You might want yo try taking off the transmission mount too so it's not in the way until you get the engine mounts in and then reinstall it.

Hey what did you use to lift the motor from the rear?
@KyleHidalgo
@KyleHidalgo 3 года назад
I used the engine hoist and a jack on the transmission to lift and lower it into position/ get it at the right angle.
@texturalbard
@texturalbard 3 года назад
@@KyleHidalgo sorry I should’ve been a little more clear. I was wondering where you wrapped your strap in the rear of the engine? I know the front is easy to strap from but the rear seems tricky. I used the studs beneath the lower intake manifold runners to get it out but I don’t want to have to open my replacement motor that deep and order gaskets
@KyleHidalgo
@KyleHidalgo 3 года назад
@@texturalbard ah I see, I actually just wrapped my strap around the plenum right before the throttle body and it held up well getting the engine out and back in
@texturalbard
@texturalbard 3 года назад
@@KyleHidalgo that makes sense. I took the intake manifold apart before taking the motor out for easier access to things but it’ll probably be worth having the intake buttoned up before install. Thank you for the reply! 🙏🏽

@@KyleHidalgo when you swapped it did you need anything other than the new motor ? did you need a new ecu or did it just plug and play since its the same motor ?
@KyleHidalgo

@@tmatics no it was just plug and play since it's the same motor. You can reuse your harness or if it comes with one, use that one. Just make sure if you have a de you stick with de, Rev up with Rev up, and hr with hr and it's super straight forward

Do you think its realistic for someone who has no mechanical experience to do this following videos I fully expect it to take me 10times or more the time it would someone that know what their doing
@KyleHidalgo
@KyleHidalgo 4 года назад
No experience as in not even having changed basic parts and what not? I would say it's definitely possible, I had a guy comment on another of the videos and say he was able to do it with no experience by watching my videos so yeah its definitely possible. My only words of advice are be very careful and take your time. Make sure you're keeping really good track of everything especially bolts and where they go and take a lot of pictures. Always use a torque wreck as much as you can when putting things back together. Also be careful when hoisting the engine out, that can be a very dangerous process if you don't know what you're doing. Lastly, things usually don't always go as planned, so make sure you have enough tools and knowhow to compensate for that (I.e. A stuck or stripped bolt). With all that being said it is, in my opinion, one of the easier engine swaps out there. If you feel overwhelmed changing basic parts though I'd probably take it somewhere or too a shop.

I appreciate the response, im definitely going to do it myself no matter how slow i have to go in order to leave everything mapped out for the reassembly. I just have a question about where to buy the replacement engine, at a junkyard its $380 but i have to pull it out myself and i dont know milage or even if its in working condition (howerver they do have a 60 day warranty). The other options ive got are ive seen on ebay they sell them with ~50k miles for $1300 or at a local shops $1400 for high milage and $1800 for low Or do you know a better way to buy one? Again thanks for the reply
@KyleHidalgo
@KyleHidalgo 4 года назад
@@servandogarcia5904 I would say ebay would most likely be your best bet honestly. You do have another option though. One of the guys I helped out bought his from a jdm import place in Phoenix with really low miles so you might look into that as well. Good luck! And let me know if you have any questions
